Public handling...

I am a handler with 100 in skill and I was wondering what you guys thought about showing for the public. I have been considering offering showing as a service but first I just want to know Is it worth it? Do you enjoy it? what are some pros and cons of showing for the public? Also, what would an average price range be? Please comment on this tread if you can offer any advice/information to help me out. Thank you!

And by the way, I am no stranger to the show ring. I own and show many different levels of dogs, including: <a href="http://virtualpups.com/index.php?r=dog/view&id=1749265"; target="_blank" class="bb-url">http://virtualpups.com/index.php?r=dog/view&id=1749265; My prized Regional African Boerboel. She is the first dog I have shown, and my first regional (But not my only).

 • When it comes to showing, I personally only like people to help me enter dogs in events. Not really keep my dogs and show them. I want the fame points. Some people are the opposite though and have a special dog/s that they don't have time to event and want a trust worthy shower to handle them. So you could have both service. I highly recommend you getting a couple of your dogs to Regional, National, or even International just so you can have examples. Also having some reference helps loads in the vp community. It's always nice to know that the person you're hiring to work with your prize dogs is trust worthy. As far as prices, I would start out small and see if you get business. Then eventually raise them if you feel they should be raised. (:

Hope that helps a tad.
 • I have shown longterm for the public before, and I, personally, do not find it to be worth it. Everytime I do it, I end up regretting it. You can't take extra turns because you will age the dog, so the kennel can't run the way you'd like it to, and depending on the dog, showing can take a very long time. Therefore, your kennel remains out of order for a long time. In my opinion, no amount of pay seems sufficient for this service. People won't pay much for it, considering it is something they can do themselves. Also, by doing it themselves they will collect any earnings and any fame the dog picks up. Not to mention, people can be picky about eventing. Sometimes they think the dog will reach a certain level a lot sooner than it actually does, and become impaitent with you.

On the other hand, there is one form of eventing that I've found to be worthwhile: Entering dogs in events and sending them back immeadiately after.
It's a great service for those who want to event, but don't have the time or are going away. It does not cause too much trouble with what you'd like to get done around the kennel, and this is a much more commonly used service. The player gets the money and fame points, and usually, you'll recieve a decent payoff.

 • Thank you to everyone for the tips. I'm still not sure about it, but I'm really glad to know how you guys feel. Right now, I'm faintly leaning towards the entering and returning service, but I really would like more experiences before I decide. Keep the tips coming!

 • I actually have a handling service and its ehh, honestly.
I mostly only do the, have the dogs entered in events and sent back mainly because it would take to long to do other things especially getting to International when a dog isn't even that good.. Takes a long time >.<
I think right now I only have 1 or 2 people that really use me for eventing mainly because like Frost said people can do it themselves. lol
I would just get some examples around and try it out. If you get people that are interested and you start showing for the public and end up liking it then do it =D
