Ok so lately I've been laying off the caffeine. Nobody knows this but I used to love caffeine. Drink coffee, soda, anything! But lately I've replaced all that with water.

1. It was a healthier life choice AND
2. I wanted to see if I could do it >.<

Well I went about 3 weeks without a single sip of any of it. It's really hard too because I work at a restaurants and that stuff is free and abundant lol But today, I had a really bad day...
It's typical teen stuff that I usually try to stay out of but some how I got mixed up and now I'm just, well hurt and bummed. So much so that without really realizing it, I poured myself a cup of soda and took a couple of sips!!!!

I feel a little like a failure! T^T
3 weeks is HUGE for me. Especially since I don't like water... Dang it. ):
I threw it out but still. Now I'm sitting on my bed just totally bummed at the world and all it's caffeine.... *sigh*

/vent

  • Don't feel bad. When I tried out for cheerleading (as a brainwashed highschool freshman), I weighed 105. The team told me that the only position they had available was flyer (the girl that's tossed around basically), but in order for me to get the flyer position I would have to loose 10 pounds since the base cheerleaders wouldn't be able to pick me up at my current weight. So.. I started dieting when I was already underweight, just to get on the team. 2 weeks into my diet (of only water and lemon juice / lettuce), I broke down and ate a full meal AND drank a soda with it. I felt like absolute crap after that (emotionally anyway). I felt like I had just failed at everything. My point is, I know the feeling. Only difference is I dieted for a stupid, ridiculous reason.. while your goal is healthy and smart. In your case I would try again. Only this time don't limit yourself to JUST water, there are healthy juices to ya know!!! xD
Goodbye old VP, hello disaster. xD
  • I know, when I said water, I meant every time I would normally drink a soda or coffee, I made myself drink water. I still drink a cup of milk a day, try to get an orange or apple juice too. Viatam water is awesome and some Gatorade when working out too. (:

Glad to know I wasn't the only one. I told me health crazy friend that I failed today and he came over and took away mama's soda. XD She hasn't noticed yet.
To make myself feel better, I made myself a forum siggy.. Kinda stupid but I laugh every time I see it so it's not so bad. (:
Thanks zyn!
  • Try putting lemon or line with your water? I wont drink water unless its has a bit of lemon or line and must be cold T.T...
I know the feeling, where I work one of the perks is free frizzy ;S...

  • I have no problem with caffeine, it's the empty calories soda has... and hubby constantly buys it, so I understand what you mean about the temptation. I can't do water though, tastes like rocks to me, even after being filtered, and it makes me sick to my stomach for some reason. Have you tried herbal teas, or just unsweetened or lightly sweetened ice tea? Tastes better than water, depending on the tea there's no caffeine, and still very few calories... plus some herbal teas have some nice health benefits :)

  • tbone -
I'm the same way. It's gotta be super cold... I'm trying to cut down on the lemon too. I heard it was bad for your enamel on your teeth...? O.O But every now and then I'll put one in lol

Tri -
Where I work there is so much tea. But it's got caffeen in it too. But herbal tea sounds nice. I may stop by and pick some up tonight or tomorrow :D Thanks for the advice. lol

So far I'm doing ok. But there's a big diet coke in the kitchen that has my name all over it. It sucks having to walk by it. XD My mom drinks that and Mt Dew. My sisters drink Dr. Pepper and Spirite. So the house has the stuff in it... I already drank two cups of water and a small orange juice. Hmmmm... But I still want it. Hahaha this sucks but I wanna try to do it! >.<
  • Lol diet fizy is bad, been told off for having diet fizzy at gym becuase they replace the sugar with other stuff, whatever that is, I would say leave it alone and only touch the real stuff but I'm not hooked on fizzy so I shouldn't be telling you too when your trying to cut down on it, I know the feeling I'm chocolate hooked which is just as bad, I can't come out of the shops without buying it, I need to work on that... xD.

  • Really? Because isn't regular coke and pepsi worse for your teeth then diet..? But health wise regular is prolly better.. So I get what you're saying lol
Oh dang XD hahaha join me! You chocolate, me caffeine.
  • Diet soda has artificial sweeteners like aspartame, which have potential health risks. There's also controversy over the possibility of artificial sweeteners causing people to gain more weight than regular cane sugar.

  • You can do it BobCat!! I believes in you!

I know exactly how you feel. I've had a caffeine addiction for about 10+ years. I able to drink at least 2 liters a day if my mom bought the liter bottles. If she only got cans, I had at least 6 cans a day. :| But now that I don't live with my parents, I only buy those 16 oz? sodas, at least once a week.

It got to the point were the withdrawals would get me really sick. While growing up, I developed acid reflux and other gastrointestinal problems, my teeth were messing up, and it contributed to my hypothyroidism. So after damaging my body for countless years, I know I will end up with diabetes and/or other problems in the future.

But it does take a lot of will power and dedication to slowly start letting go of the soda (caffeine).

  • Tri -
That's what I thought. Though I did like the after taste of a diet soda compared to the regular sodas is why I drank them. /: Good to know my hunch was right.. Sadly XD

Lyc -
Thanks Lyc! I would drink one full cup of soda at least a day. Coffee every morning... Maybe up to three cups. Right now it's just caffeine. I'll eventually try to lay off sugar. Maybe like one or two sugar breaks a week but other then that, no. I'm really really trying. Today for dinner was super tempting. OMG! It was just right there... But I drank milk. Ugh. This whole thing sucks but I'm kinda proud of myself for just randomly trying this. And the funny thing is, I'm not over weight. I'm normal weight. I'm just doing this to really test myself and for my health. I wanna get into a good habit for when I move out officially. :P
  • Trying is the best step you can do, and I'm proud of you for that =) I had professors, doctors and everyone trying to scare me how horrible soda, and caffeine is and I would play dumb like I didn't hear them. And going cold turkey has always been a bad idea for me, because I would give into caffeine and soda in a few days. xD One thing that worked for me, is just slowly decreasing the intake till you're barely even drinking it. Now the amount of caffeine I drink in a month is equal to what I would drink in a day (before).

Oh, and drink the milk instead of soda was an awesome move! =D I believe that in no time, you'll get into a good eating/drinking habit.
