Rodeos...

Okay so I know I may get my head bit off by this vent because I am sure there are rodeo loving people on here xD But I just need to vent.<br>I was watching a video about veal calves and a video popped up after mine and over. The video happens to be about how Rodeos are cruel. I don't know anything much about rodeos so I was curious. Don't get me wrong I don't just go and watch cruel videos about animals for fun. I was watching a video because I am writing an essay about veal. Videos like these make me sick and cry about all the time. So back to the rodeo video. The video was showing 3 categories of rodeo they were: "Bucking Horses", "Calf Roping", and "Steer Tripping". (these were the terms used in the video they may not be the official names for the categories) Seeing how these animals were handled made me well simply..sick. Made me ask is this really entertainment? and is this really supposed to be an American tradition? Once again don't get me wrong I am not saying that people that enjoy rodeo are "bad" people or "cruel". People have their own beliefs and traditions and most people in the rodeo business from what I believe are mostly raised into it. To -me- the things I saw in that video were animal cruelty. Seeing a calf running full speed out of a shoot with a person on horseback chasing them to lasso the calf and when the rope gets around their neck they snap back so hard they fly into the air to only be picked up and thrown onto the ground by a cowboy/cowgirl and have its legs tied together. When I see things like that I honestly do not see entertainment. I see pure cruelty. I know I don't know about zip about rodeo but I can't stand seeing these animals being treated like this.<br>Thank you- Tiffanee

    Ya I gO o a rodeo but it's too watch people do barrel riding or a little show on horses etc and when little kids ride sheep is always cute

    Yea not all of the things rodeos do are bad or cruel but some of it to -me- is. That is just my opinion. I hope no one has taken any of this personal or anything along that line. I only was venting about my opinion and what I though =D Thought I would just say that so people didn't think I was like against anyone that may participate in these or any kind of rodeo lol =]

    I like rodeos, but not passionate about them. I'm more into the cutting sports. I try to keep an open mind about most things that seem cruel to me and as long as the animals are looked after, I don't really say a lot. There are a lot of things that seem cruel to me, that people do on a daily basis. Yes, it probably is cruel to scare the bejesus out of an animal and man handle them (literally), however the cows usually get up right afterwards, shake it off and keep going as if nothing happened. <br><br>Like everything else, there are probably videos out there of animals that don't get up, that are neglected and further abused, but most rodeo stock providers take very good care of their animals because they are their livelihood. There are owners/trainers who abuse their animals to get them to perform in every type of event out there from fish to rats to cats and dogs to cattle to horses and beyond. They regularly scare the bejesus out of their animals, manhandle them and many times put them in some kind of danger for their own pleasure and to win a prize. Humans, on the whole, can be pretty cruel to "lesser" creatures (even other humans) when it comes to their own pleasure, at the same time feeling great love for their animals.<br><br>Sometimes, you have to step back and take a look at the whole picture, otherwise you would go crazy thinking about human cruelty.
