Being volunteered.

edited May 2012 in Vent
I was volunteered by my friend's mom to work at a horse expo.
Now don't get me wrong...I'm all for volunteering and helping out, but she has told the people that I will bring Creole (my main show horse) with me and help with a riding clinic as the demonstrator.
Um...I never agreed to this. I'm not really mad about it, I mean I'm more than willing to help but it seems like she just threw a lot at me at once.
And it also means that I'll have to load Cre in the trailer at 6:00am and drive the truck and trailer about an hour to the venue. I don't have the heart to tell her that I don't really want to do it but on the other hand she has helped me out a lot and I owe her.
I do not approve of being volunteered for things without being asked first >.<

Meh.

  • It makes me mad when people just assume you'll do something :|

People do that with me concerning photography.
They'll be chatting with friends about their upcoming party and just go "Oh yeah Clo is doing the photography, aren't you Clo?" -.-
I'll just bluntly say "Well if this is you asking me then sure, but don't expect anything amazing."

D:<
I mean c'mon people; How hard is it to ASK someone! Especially if you know they'll do it!

You have every right to back out of the expo if you wish to, but that's up to you.
Goodluck!
  • Oh man I hear ya.. I hate that. That's one of my pet peeves. Even if you "owe" her, she should've still done the right thing and asked you first. I'm sorry..
Good luck though (:
  • I would say talk to her. Tell her that while you're willing to do it this time, you would really appreciate it if in the future she asked first before she committed you to something. Point out that you might have had other plans on that day, or there might have been another reason you wouldn't be able to do what she promised.

  • I hate that. -__- My boss once volunteered me to do a presentation for a kindergarten class 'in honor of our local shelter', and he said I would bring in my dogs.. so he volunteered them too. -__- I spent the entire week trying to decide which dog would do best in a room filled with sixty kids screaming and crying and laughing and hitting.

I would say you should talk to her about not doing it; but it's easier said then done. I know from experience and feel bad for you. D:
Goodbye old VP, hello disaster. xD
