RED VELVET CAKE HAIR!

So I've always wanted super bright red hair and my mom always refused. Well I got this dye that showed it being a dark Auburn color on the box. So we dyed it and washed it and when I took off the towel, my moms jaw drops and she goes "Uh thatssss not the color that was on the box...." so I look in the mirror and my hair is the color of red velvet cake. It's epic. My mom is starting to like it better but my sisters and my dad hate it. Oh well, at least it brings *me* joy(;

Actually, believe it or not, it was an accident hah. I know my mom hates the color and says it's "unnatural" so I wanted to go as red as she would let me and it turned out to be very, very red. I'm a natural blonde and super pale so it looks very striking. I went to our animal shelter to help my mom with something and the lady who works there was like "WOW! That is *RED*!" I love it(;

I always wore my hair red. Not unnatural though (even though I've done it before) but I always wore it an auburn red. I like being a red-head. I'm a natural auburn but I would make my hair noticeable. Like enhance my natural color lol I looked up your color and it reminds me of the girl from Victorious. Kat haha I love that color! I bet you can rock the color. (:

Oh My Goodness!!!!!!!!!!!! When I was little, I watched this cartoon and she had red highlights/streaks and I wanted it soooooooo much!!!!!!! I still want it, though. I have black hair, like jet black. Well, it's kinda brown in the sun

But I'm pretty sure you look AWESOME in that color. ;D I'm pretty sure that I agree with the lady at the shelter even though I haven't seen it

Exactly the same here xD Natural auburn dying my hair even more red x] Except the last time I got it dyed at the hairdressers they didn't set the colour right and the dye was still bleeding out of my hair 2 weeks later and then washed out completely

School doesn't allow unnatural colours so I can't go bright red... yet! I'm jealous ;P

My hair is naturally black. Pure black. So black that in the sun it looks purple. -__0 It now goes down to my waist and I love it, wouldn't dare change it these days. : ) However, highschool called for something a little more out there, so despite protests from everyone I know I went to this city's best salon and picked out a fiery red dye. It took nearly three hours and a bunch of dyeing. The lady finished my hair, turned me towards the mirror, then said "uh..wow", like I looked terrible or something. xD But I -absolutely adored- the color. You just can't go wrong with the right red.

I got compliments whenever I left the house, and definitely stood out in a crowd. Red velvet cake hair? Fantastic!!

That should be apart of a VP dog's color.

Yeah light blond hair tends to go pretty bright when dying red :P I have been dying my hair red for years but mine is a darker red but still rather bright when freshly dyed. I have brown hair naturally but still get an unnatural red when I dye it. I've found its hard to find good shades of red, at least it is for me lol.

My hair is a natural reddish brown, too. I dyed it a raven black for a while, and my senior year I dyed it a color I liked to call Cheerwine red.. but most of you probably have no idea what Cheerwine is, so maybe I'll drag up some pictures. I'd love to see the red velvet cake hair! No faces, for rules sake. xD

Well, it's been two days and a pretty good bit of the color has rinsed out =P Even though I've used a permanent dye and color safe shampoo and conditioner. Oh well. I will post some non-face pics tomorrow(:

I dye my hair with permanent dye regularly and usually the color will come out a bit, cause even though it says permanent it doesn't always stick properly. I currently have purpley red hair, though it was supposed to be purple... going to go bright pink soon though...

How is your guys' hair health-wise? I've never dyed my hair before. I'd love to try a dark auburn color but I'm too scared of it drying my hair out or damaging it because I have really picky hair. xD Plus, I don't know if that color would even dye properly due to my already dark brunette hair color.

I have dyed my hair more times than I can count on my fingers, plus I bleached it (don't do that xD) and my hair still has a moisturized, healthy look to it =D I don't know about what would happen with "picky" hair. I would advise talk to your hairdresser before anything. But from past expierence when I had my hair a little darker and I did an dark burgundy my hair didn't turn purple or anything but just gave my hair a nice purple/red tint in the sun. I loved it =D Now recently I dyed my hair back to black xD So your hair wouldn't probably turn an dark auburn but probably have a hint since what it sounds like your hair is already dark =] Hope that helped =D

If you do want to dye your hair and your scared of your hair getting damaged try semi-permanent dye as it doesn't have any harsh chemicals in it. I'm going for semi next time I dye my hair as you can't get really bright colors in permanent hair dye. Apparently it lasts around 2months

I second the semi/demi permanent dye. I use raw color and color fiend, my best friend uses manic panic, and all of them leave hair pretty soft, even after bleaching. The raw color smells pretty good too, like bubble gum XD Although, if you want your hair bleached first I suggest a salon... much better results.

I second that. Just because it's soooo easy to mess up your hair. I knew a girl once who tried it herself and she left the bleach on too long and burned her scalp. Not to mention she lost a lot of hair in the part of her head. Poor girl.. It's just better to have a professional. That's just my opinion. (:

I finally got around to uploading some pics so this is what it looked like after three days. Kind of faded and on the underside you can see some of the brownish/blonde color haha. <img src="http://i1153.photobucket.com/albums/p509/HarryPotterGirl96/redvelvetcakehair.jpg"; alt="http://i1153.photobucket.com/albums/p509/HarryPotterGirl96/redvelvetcakehair.jpg"; class="bb-image" /> Yeah I would do semi-permenant. This was my first try with permanent. I've done blue tips, fire truck red highlights, purple highlights and dyed it auburn and they all stayed brighter for a few weeks and then faded slowly but this, it's faded quickly but it's stayed this faded red/brown color for a few days.

Love the color. I can only imagine how it was when it was just dyed. (: That's the sad thing about dying your hair.... After a couple washes, its never the same anymore. That once beautiful color has turned a different shade. *sigh*

I second that, I was purple like a month or two ago, but after like a week or two it turned to a reddish purple, and now its just red

time to re-do my hair.... once I buy all the hair dye

O.o Whenever my hair has been dyed it just fades back to my natural colour... I haven't had regrowth since I put blonde streaks in it years ago -shudders- I love your colour though! Wish my hair could go that light
