I get to work with horses :D

YAY! I went up to the horse sanctuary today, and asked if I could volunteer there, and she said that I could go up whenever I wanted in the afternoon to work with the horses, and then when I get more used to the horses, they are going to teach me how to muck out and stuff and then I can go all day :D yay!

  • Thanks :) I'm really excited about it actually, since there are tons of horses to work with, don't exactly know what they do but I'm sure I'll find out

  • I have never worked with horses besides like 1 time in my Ag class me and a partner had to work with the horse Spicy and I was honestly afraid xD. She is a good horse and all but I never grew up around them or anything lol well besides seeing them at the fair. But I'm sure I could over come my fear because I did work with a steer 1000x my size for the first time in my life and became unafraid of him..=D

  • Thats cool, I've never worked with horses as such but I have ridden them and lead them into the training area (when I visited the stables more) and theres one horse in the sanctuary I will be working at that scares the living daylights out of me... hes HUGE

  • Congratz! Being able to work with many different horses effectively is a sign of a good horseman and working at a sanctuary will definitally give you that.
  • Thanks, I actually want to do web development as a career but hey every little helps and I just love animals so why not volunteer somewhere where I will enjoy it :D

  • Most definitally. Just a warning though. Horses are addictive ;D dont freak out if you find youself wishing you had your own... its completely normal ;D Trying not to go out and buy one is the hard part... and the part i have a hard time adjusting too
  • I can say that after working with my steer Fluffy.. I kind of became addicted to them xD. I used to think cows/steers were just nasty animals and they stunk blah blah but now whenever I see one I'm all like awww its so adorable..I want another one that's a definite =D

  • Haha well luckily (i suppose it's lucky) I can't afford to go and buy a piece of land or a stall in a stable and I can't afford an actual horse or everything that goes with it. So I suppose for now I'll have to deal with it. But horses are great. Riding them is fun too, just expensive to take lessons. Since I used to do that. Haha oh we also have 3 sheep, a goat & some guinea pigs at the horse sanctuary I'm going to be working at. They used to have pigs there when I was younger

No pigs are taking me over! No way!

I love cows. As long as theyre worked with theyre amazingly sweet. Thats why i only keep cows i bottle feed.
  • aww that sounds cute, I like most animals except spiders not going near them... unless I have to in my job. Cows are pretty cute. And never read animal farm

  • Yea when we got our steers for the Ag class most hadn't even been halter broke so for some of use who had never worked them before..me.. I was terrified xD But luckily I worked with Fluffy every day during class for 9 months and he became pretty good lol still liked to pull, step on my feet, and not get positioned...oh how he hated that show stick..Kinda miss doing it all =/ Although my first time in the show ring was, well, an epic fail.. I really enjoyed it and I was able to learn a lot of things I did not know.
@ Vamp I am on your side with that lol I will never do anything with pigs...they just stink to much for me lol.. Sounds horrible but just to much for my nose to handle lol

  • Haha thats so funny, oh today when I went to ask about working at the sanctuary, there was a woman who was running after a horse telling it to come back, cause it had like ran out, luckily the gate was shut and no-where for it to go, but was still quite funny seeing a woman chasing a horse

  • I usually just stand still until they run themselves out. My girl Rosie likes to get her bucks and giggles out before i ride. She hops around and runs for about 10 minutes then she will walk up to me and let me put her halter on. I wish i hadve had my camera today. She was being hilarious.
  • Haha sounds cute and kinda funny too. I think the woman didn't want the other horses to get the same idea lol. And we also have Donkey's at the sanctuary too. I start Tuesday Afternoon since I'm out of town until then... but im excited

  • Just my two cents// I own a pig, and honestly, he's cleaner then every dog I know. They don't have to stink. I'm sure if you left any animal in a dirty pen all day to let it run around in it's feces and muddy, dirty water, while constantly throwing food at it, it would start to stink. Even humans. xD Pigs can be perfecly trained house pets... though it's true the sloppy farm pigs are definitely yuck.

Anywho.., I'm really happy for you tiger! :D This will be a great learning experience I'm sure. My first volunteer job will never be forgotten, it was one of the best experiences of my life. I hope you have a ton of fun. : )
Goodbye old VP, hello disaster. xD
  • Thanks Zen, and I have heard that Pigs are one of the cleanest animals around, they won't roll around in their own muck, they just like mud to cool down.
They actually are really clean animals =D. In their pens they will dedicate in a specific spot and leave an area for sleeping and that..I can't say that much for cows..They just lay in their crap. lol I could probably handle like inside pigs or something like that where they are trained but when it comes to like a huge farm with like 100 of them. It starts to stink xD.
But congrats Tigey! I hope your really enjoying it there!

  • Theres actually no pigs inside, don't think they have them anymore, they have guinea pigs (as close as they get to a pig), goats, sheep, donkeys and loads of horses
