Your Passion?

Doing what I do has given me the oppurtunity to meet new people every day. New, and sometimes strange, people. O.o Some of them can talk non-stop, others you have to force conversation out of; but the one question that gets everyone going is: What is your passion? Or, What are you passionate about? I get really interesting answers sometimes, like: "Turtles", or "Dragon Ball Z". -__- Everyone and anyone can relate to this topic / talk about their passion, right? This is a great way to learn something new about people you talk to on a daily basis here; because you all know you're VP addicts that stalk the forums everyday. xD You might as well learn a little more about your Vpian fa-ma-leh / the people you are stalking. :D

Anywho, what is your passion? AND, what is the one thing you love doing most?

Mine? Well, the obvious answer would be my dogs. xD The not-so-obvious? Singing. I've been performing since before the age of nine, and i've been in a band / group. I don't believe any of you knew that about me. :) Besides competing, singing is my true passion.

Music is Magic. <3

The thing I like doing most: Walking , Running , and Playing through the forest, with my dog by my side, and the rain falling down on us. Have you ever danced through the woods when it's raining? TRY IT. I guarantee you'll feel like some sort of natural fairy goddess creature. O.o

Or you'll get a cold... I don't know...
Either way, it's beautiful. <3 :D

 • What an awesome thread Zyn! What type of music do you like to sing/perform?

My passion (other than my animals) is my job. I'm a riding instructor for disabled children. I started out as a volunteer sidewalker/leader, did that from 2005 to 2010. Then my "boss" (She's pretty much my second mom, lol) told me there was a registration class for instructing! Long story short, I got registered (plan on getting certified soon), and last summer was the first time I started all by myself. I currently have three adorable clients, who are 2 brothers and 1 sister. We went to the Special Olympics in October, and my clients each won a first place and a second place each :)

 • My passion is music. I eat sleep and breathe it. I'm in a band with 9 other teens under the age of [edited, do not give out ages] and we have so much fun working together. I took guitar lessons for 3 years and plan on taking vocal lessons this year. I have three guitars and I play them frequently. I also love to sing. And it might sound weird or stupid but when I am onstage playing my guitar or singing (only sang on stage once) I feel like it's where I'm supposed to be. Like all the bad things in my life just melt away and I get lost in the music. I mostly play country music but lately I've been learning some John Mayer and Kina Grannis folksy type stuff.
My other passions are Photography, Art and Writing.

The thing I love most in the world is sitting on the porch on a summer day, reading a good fantasy novel, a cool breeze blowing through my hair. My dog would be at my side (one of them) and the air would smell like freshly cut grass and honeysuckles. Paradise.

 • I actually like this thread concept. I think many people would assume, since this is a dog site, that our passions are dogs alone. It should be interesting to see what everyone posts. :)

I've gone walking through the rain on city or neighborhood streets, though I imagine being able to dance in the woods through the rain is much more ethereal. My coworkers always look at me funny when I tell them I'd much rather go sit in the middle of a rainstorm. It smells fresh, like it's washing away all the worlds troubles, at least for a second. /end ramblings. :P

My passion is traveling, exploring, and doing new things. My whole goal in life is to experience as many things as I possibly can. I want to visit almost every country and all fifty US states. I want to go horseback riding in the desert, take a hot air balloon or helicopter tour of Vegas, get lost in the streets of London, go on a cruise to nowhere, go scuba diving off Africa's coast, and do virtually anything else worth trying. I cannot tolerate being in the same place for too long, though I've never really had the chance to get out and roam. I'm the type who sees even one year as too big of a commitment for most things, though I make room for the special things in my life (dogs, games, etc.). Even if I only have the time to get out and watch the river for a few minutes, just to smell the fresh waters, then my world can be at peace for that moment.

The thing I love to do the most is daydream. I daydream literally every minute of every day. I daydream when I train, when I work, when I exercise, and when I drive. I can pretend that I'm not where I'm at and that I don't have any troubles. I get some pretty nice ideas from dreams and daydreams, so I use them to build my imagination up as well.

 • My passion is swimming. I swam competitively for most of my childhood and teenage years. I took swim lessons when I was just a baby, and my mom has always told me I could swim before I could walk (though I'm not sure how much truth there is to that ;p). I grew up loving the pool, or the ocean, or the lake, pretty much whatever body of water was closest. My mom threw me on a swim team at age 4, and I swam all the way up until my senior year in high school and for about four years I swam on a year-round travel team. I'm now too old to swim competitively for a rec team anywhere around here that I know of, and I don't plan on training for the Olympics, but my younger sister has picked it up and I love watching her fall in love with it like I did. Swimming was my life for over fourteen years, I itched to do it, and off seasons I felt useless. I live for summers and hot days on the lake.

 • Other than dogs, I have a thing for horses, horse racing in particular. I do bet (and have a knack for it, if I do say so myself.. XD), but that isn't why I love it. Personally I just find it exciting and suspenseful. Sometimes, before important races, I'm literally trembling from excitement. The horses alone interest me, I can spend hours watching their previous races, looking at what they've been clocking in workouts, who their trainers are, which jockeys they do well with, and you can't just look up one horse! One horse leads to the next.

 • Let me think about this one, I actually have many passions other then the obvious like training, rescuing, competing and basically anything to do with dogs.

I love to read. I will read almost anything as long as a) it is written well or b) its a good story line. I read almost everyday on the bus and when I'm done in class. In the warmer weather I take all the dogs out and read in the grass with them. Someday I hope to write a few training books and maybe a book about my experiences being a junior handler. I am also very passionate about school and my grades. I strive to maintain a 95+ average with no subjects below a 90 (it helps to have raw intelligence :b. I take school very seriously, do all my homework and class work. I'm not a super trier but I do care.

Comedy is another big part of my life, I'm always cracking jokes or looking up new comedians. To me, life is boring with out comedy. I really only watch comedic shows, movies, or inter-web videos. Although it gets me in trouble sometimes because when I am joking around anyone is a "subject" and nothing should be taken seriously. Some of my favorite jokes I can't share because I know people will back lash and scream at me, but hey, I already warned you not to take me seriously and its your fault you did.

One last thing is: the oh so typical art :b I love to draw, mostly grid drawings, but I am always criticizing my work. I can always find something that could look better or that I should have done over and so on. Unfortunately, I'm not very good. I have two pictures that I really love and framed them, but other then that, they don't look too good.

Mini passions:
Technology
Sewing
Photography
Microwaving Food
Annoying Zyn :b

 • My passion is to read, I read almost any kind of fantasy book and read almost everyday, sometimes I'll even stop talking to the fiancé for an hour or so just so I can read. I like to find new series to read and read most things. In the last 6 months I have managed to complete, Twilight Saga, The Host, Harry Potter (all of them), The Hunger Games (1week for the lot), Eragon (most of them), 1billion & 1 magazines, The Millennium Series and some others.

I also like to write stories as well as reading, used to do that a lot and did start again recently. I mostly write short stories cause I can't really keep the imagination up for weeks on end.

Another of my passions is art. I like to draw (animals mostly), but I do like to have a look at other work and see if I can draw it or create something similar.

Music is another thing that is just like WOAH! everything goes away when I listen to music or when I sing. I also play keyboard & own a bass guitar. Though haven't really done much of that for a few years.

& mini things I like to do are playing masses of games, VP being the most favourite, but currently i have been playing Fable 2, which is amazing, I also play the games G1 Jockey 3 & 4 & spend hours on end playing them.

 • Mine is breeding animals mostly. I love the wonder of it. Creating life! Doing the research and taking the time to figure out the right formulas for a winning pair, but thats not the end of it. Getting a baby is only the tip of the iceberg. Even with a healthy baby. Then comes handling and training and proper nutrition and temps staying right and checking mom every day to make sure she's feeding baby right ect. Then once im all done with my babies i sell them on to someone who has the knowledge to show them and compete them to the best of their ability and i LOVE going to shows and seeing the babies who were tiny and helpless sweeping a class at a show. Those babies and ribbons are based on the hard work and research i put into them. The nights where i stay up waiting on babies drives me crazy, but they're so worth it. I always second guess myself wondering if whatever animal it is actually IS gonna have a baby because i cant imagine the baby. Even while I'm typing this i have a ewe (sheep) due any day and i KNOW she's gonna have a baby but i cant picture her with one. It just seems surreal. And when i go and talk to the Ram (daddy) it kills me to think the baby i already have is HIS. He's never even seen her yet she's pretty close to being like him. But then again she's not even close to him, if that makes sense. Where did she come from? Its like the stark just dropped her off. She still seems surreal to me even though i planned for her. We (me and the sheep) made her together.

Another is training and showing animals. Especially ones Ive raised. Unlike books or music or football (no offense. Just picked off the top of my head) they feel. If you don't deal with them for one day they feel the effects of it. My horses need ME. Not someone else even. My horses come running to me but they test others and don't have the respect for them that they have for me. They need ME. Me and nobody else. Every day. We have a... connection. With football (my brothers sport) he left the football world and where he once was big in high school... nobody even remembers his name. Football doesn't miss him. If i leave for even one day my animals miss me. They know I'm gone and they wish i was there. They depend on me. And taking something that Ive had since it was born, and has a connection with me, and getting results with it is crazy to me. I cant imagine myself riding Ro, but i know I'm going to break him. It just doesn't seem real to me. Taking a wild animal who has a mind of its own and using my knowledge and trust the animal has given me shaping its mind to go along with what i ask willingly, to almost make them think that doing what i want them to do is what THEY want to do is a trade a LOT of people don't have the mindset to accomplish. I train thousand pound animals to run around with me on their backs WILLINGLY without fighting occurring between us. Who else can say that? That's a true skill in my mind.

And lastly, riding horses (and showing animals...) there is a freedom in taking a living, breathing thousand pound animal and feeling at one with them. I can make a horse do things that you'd never imagine possible by how my body moves. That feeling is one that if your thinking about it... it doesn't happen. But if you just go along with it it works every time. This animal could take off and kill me at any time but it doesn't mind me being there working with them. We're a team. I know all my horses like nobody else does. I know all the little quirks on how to get them all efficient that i don't trust many people to know how my horses work. In fact, i RARELY let people on my horses. I yelled at my brother once for touching my horse O-o (for a good reason)
 • Jeesh. Learning new things already about my VPian family! <3
I love a lot of things, I think, besides my dog and 2 cats, horses are up there as well. Since I was very young I've been attending horse shows with my mum, I've always been more of a strapper than an actual competitor though. I prefer the prepping parts and watching the horses perform. ;D We've only ever shown in Led, with Arabians or derivatives. But my mum does have a gelding that is shown under saddle as well as Led.

I'd really love to get into showing dogs in Agility, maybe breeding a certain breed to train and show in Agility. I guess it depends on how the next few years of my life pan out. But I love all dogs, when I visit my friends houses, most of the time I'd prefer to sit down and pat their dogs, or play with them. xD

Some of my VPian friends know I -love- writing. I have sooo many stories going, and I love dreaming up new ones. Literally. A lot of my story ideas come from my dreams. Whether they be daydreams or those waking dreams you have before you actually become awake. For a long time I kept a notepad by my bed so I could jot down what I remembered from those dreams. xD

I also love reading. I have at least 60 books now, it's not much of a variety, mostly around the supernatural things, like shapeshifters, misfits, vampires, werewolves and just plain awesomeness. As well as Magic, Medieval, etc. At a guess, I'd say I've read at least 300 books. I borrowed a lot of books from the school libraries, friends and family all through my childhood-teenage years. ;D

I love to sing and dance. Neither officially, I just enjoy doing it. Especially when Paramore songs start playing, I belt out a tune to that. And Pitbull is fun to dance too. hahahaha.

I think that covers everything.. except how much I ADORE Sherlock Holmes and anything Vampire-related. ;D

 • My first, last and always passion is my immediate family. My youngest daughter, husband, oldest daughter and step daughter, in that order. My oldest and my step daughters are adults now, living their own lives, so they don't require my attention all the time, in fact, they tend to roll their eyes when I attempt to give motherly advice LOL My husband is a big boy, so really, outside of communication, he doesn't require much attention. Micky is in kindergarten now. After 5 and a half years of having her with me 24/7, I have to admit to being relieved to get some time on my own and to get back to work. Though I probably drive her teacher nuts with communications and Micky nuts with the questions about what she's learning, the school has enjoyed having a parent more or less on call for volunteer work at school.

Part of the passion concerning my family is our family based business of building new homes and remodeling existing homes. The company is named for our daughters and we started it as a way to provide income for them should they ever need it. 90% of the profit for the company stays in the company as a savings account for our children. I'm very adamant that we provide quality houses for people. We don't set out to do things cheaply, if there's something of better quality, we'll use it even if it may cost a bit more. So I'm sure I can provide a house to be proud of, I am on the job whenever there's a sub contractor there learning what they do, why they do and how they do. I may not do their job, but I will know how to do it.

So that covers about 22 hours in the day (8 hours sleep, 9 hours work, 5 hours family time) so in my free 2 hours, you're likely to find me touching base with extended family or playing on the computer.

I am almost obsessive/compulsive about reading. When I pick up a book, no matter if it's good, bad or I've read it half a dozen times already, it's like trying to pull teeth to get me to put it down. It has happened that I pick up a book and end up giving up days of sleep to keep reading, taking it with me where ever I go so I can read if there's any time that my attention isn't needed elsewhere. I've also been known to forget about the dishes or declare a father/daughter only night to be able to read. But I don't know if you would call it a passion, it's more like an addiction. One day, I will have a house with an actual library to put my books into since they fill 2 6 ft book cases, as well as the top of my desk and the headboard on my bed. Poor Micky's going to have the same problem, at 6, she already has a 3 ft bookcase filled.

 • Great concept! It's fun to read everyone's posts. :)

I'm a self-described "Jack of all trades" since my passions are numerous and broad of range. Just some of these include:

Writing. The first story I remember completing was in 4th grade; I hope I never find the manuscript because I will probably embarrass myself re-reading it. XD In high school I entered a few local writing competitions (short story) and got first place two years in a row, honorable mention the third year. I also stepped into the frightening (for me) realm of playwriting, entered a national high school playwriting competition, and won second place. Since then I've moved away from entering contests to focus on my novels (I have ~10 in the works right now) and push them closer to being ready for publishing.

Tall Ships/Golden Age-related things. I have been told (and firmly believe) that my spirit belongs in the 1600-1700s. When I have the opportunity to try something the old way, I snap it up--I fence (swordplay, sabre primarily); have dabbled in flint knapping (forming arrowheads etc from obsidian by hand); have handmade garments in the "old" style including peasant shirts and 1700s styled dresses, etc.; archery (recurve bow); farrier work (horseshoeing); taken a brief excursion on a tall ship and been allowed to assist with setting and furling sails; and of course, horseback riding. If I could choose to travel by horse or car, the horse would have it hands-down.

Fencing. I know I mentioned it briefly above, but I love the sport--I'd say it's the only one I have ever partaken in with sustained interest. I have fenced all three weapons (foil, sabre, epee) but by far I love the sabre best. (Epee next, then foil. Really don't like foil. :P) My friends say it's because sabre is the psychotic, most piratey weapon (which may well be true) but I am addicted to the speed, necessary control, and motion of the weapon. Unfortunately opportunities to fence are few and far between here. I have been to the local novice club and taken first in their "for fun" competitions several times. The instructors have been impressed with my natural knack for the weapon (I have not had any formal training, just a student-run club for less than a year in college) and have encouraged me to join a club that focuses on competitive fencing. I'm considering taking it to that step, of actually competing at state level, but we'll see what my work schedule ends up allowing.

Rodeos. While I've never competed, I live for rodeo season each year. When I can, I watch the Professional Bull Riders perform via the internet. My favorite event is bulldogging (steer wrestling.) My summers are scheduled around rodeos and...

Horse racing. I love to watch the sport. There are two tracks within driving distance, one a Thoroughbred/QH track and the other a harness track. I've found that I do better betting on the harness races, however that is not my primary interest. I enjoy watching the athleticism of the horses and admire the jockeys/drivers--if I could, I would give it a try myself!

Theatre/Shakespeare. While I'm not a terribly good actor, I do enjoy the whole experience of being involved in a stage show. Which I find amusing, as I am a terribly shy person in real life--you know, the one that sits in the corner of the classroom, never utters a word or smiles. :P I have participated in almost all aspects of theatre--actress, stage manager, director, playwright. The interest in the acting arts started when I began reading Shakespeare in elementary school. My absolute favorite Shakespearean play is A Midsummer Night's Dream. I am more or less able to recite A Midsummer Night's Dream, Much Ado About Nothing, Hamlet, and Twelfth Night from memory and several monologues verbatim. For all that, I have only ever performed a bit role in Twelfth Night and shared the role of Puck in A Midsummer Night's Dream. My love of Shakespeare has taken me to the rebuilt Globe Theatre, where I saw Much Ado About Nothing performed. I have also been to his hometown, Stratford-Upon-Avon. Lovely place. The Merry Wives of Windsor, Romeo and Juliet, and Richard III are also among my favorite Shakespearean plays. My absolute favorite characters in all of literature are Puck and Feste (both witty fools.) Moliere is my second favorite playwright. I adore his Scapin, Tartuffe, The Miser, and The Doctor in Spite of Himself.

I'm sure I've forgotten something. Oh well. :P
