I got them about an hour ago.. they don't hurt (yet) but I so badly just want to tear them off. :x It's so annoying.<br><br>Welp, only two years to go before I get them off! -_-
Aw, bless it. xD I had braces for almost 6 years, it's not so bad. :P
<span style="font-size: 10pt;"> </span><div><span style="font-size: 10pt;"></span><span style="font-size: small;"> </span></div><div><span style="font-size: small;">oh I swear to ya, I'll be there for ya.

They're starting to hurt now. Dx And just cut both cheeks! Wax time.<br><br>This sucks.. Everyone keeps telling me I'll get used to it but it feels like I never will. Just had my first meal with them.. It's horrible. So hard to eat.
<span style="font-size:85"><span style="color:#0000FF">I had to get them on... Twice. -_- I hated it but eventually you'll forget.<br>I was a rebel though when it comes to braces. Never followed the rules XD</span></span>
Twice, Bob? O.O That's two times too many! It hurts the worst now. <br>Ahaha. I'll try and follow them. The flossing is pretty annoying so far. And really? Brushing for 5 minutes after every time you eat? Um. >.><br><br>Yeah Pumpkin. You have to find someone to talk to you about it who's honest! You know? Everyone told me it was no big deal and it doesn't hurt and stuff.. But then you don't know what to expect. And then you get them and you're like,"WHAT'S HAPPENING TO ME." and then it's horrible.<br><br>And then you're supposed to get used to them.<br>^ haven't experienced this.<br><br>And then you get them off (and it's supposed to feel all weird again.)<br>^ very much looking forward to that.<br><br>:/ Taking some more pain medicine now.
I had them for 3.5 years. They suck, don't let anyone tell you that they don't. xD<br><br>They hurt like hell when they're first put on. Here's a tip: don't drink out of pop/soda cans. If you accidentally bump your teeth while they're that sore... OUCH. My friends agree with this tip, but some people never have the issue. xD Also, wax never worked for me. Ever. It was just uncomfortable and then it falls out. -_- On the bright side, getting them off leaves you with beautifully straight teeth. It felt so gross/weird when I got mine off. It was like, slimy but smooth. I kept rubbing my upper lip on my teeth because I wasn't used to it. They're totally worth it, let me tell you! ;D
Good tip! Thanks. I've just been drinking cold water.. Ah. The wax keeps falling out, yeah. It's annoying. Really. Annoying. Ha! As are the braces! My lips feel huge. Like I can't close them on these monsters. At least they don't look too bad.. I have the ceramic ones. So they aren't thaaaat visible but still.<br><br>My main concern was getting a lisp- and I'm so thankful and happy to say that:<br>I do not have a lisp! <br><br>A lissssssssssp.<br>Ssssssssssss.
I had four different sets over 6 years (had them off for a year once) and had surgery to boot. They do suck, but it does get better. Your cheeks toughen up and the straighter your teeth get, the less they'll move when they change the wires, so the less it will hurt. Be careful with the ceramic ones, they tend to stain really easily, so if you eat something with stuff like mustard in it or drink coffee, you need to brush asap cause you don't want your mouth lookin nasty. :P Eat soft stuff like yogurt and pudding and apple sauce for the next day or so, but eating will get easier too.

<span style="font-size:85"><span style="color:#0000FF">The reason I had them twice was because once I got them off the first time, I didn't wear my retainer. When I got caught and forced to wear it, I accidentally threw it away at school. -_- Fail. So I didn't tell my mom and one day she takes me in randomly to get checked on and they give me crap and yada yada yada... lol So I got them a second time. I feel bad that I was so careless, but I really didn't like them. I guess I was so young then. I don't really remember my age. I know I was in grade school when I first got them.</span></span>
Awh. I had them since 4th grade. Hurts like hell. I get the non-friction ones so i don't gettum tightened. And trust me. It hurts for one week and then you can pig out all you want. It was the worst because I went to lake tahoe the day after. I couldn't eat,Anything. I wanted to get a knife and chop them off. They were ripping the back of my mouth off. They got little bumps a little like sores, so be aware of that. I had to get these thing in the back of my bottom two teeth. they took them off like two months ago and when they take them off they use this drill. And what a scary time that was. I was crying but the dentist didn't care. he kept drilling and it feels like when you bite into something cold and you feel that "AHHH!!!" feeling. I was starving for the first week and i barely ate a quarter of a sandwich. If i didn't eat that i wouldnt eat anything at all. Dang. Those flipping braces peirced the back of my mouth...permanently.Now i have to get headgear. *shivers* Get well soon,Finsters.
I have them now. August will be my two year mark and I have a feeling I won't be getting them off. <br>When you get them tightened it's not as bad as the first time. But, if you have to get power chains, that one isn't very comfortable. Almost hurts like the beginning. -_- <br>I thought I was the only person that had problems with wax! It never stays in for me, but I haven't used it since I first got my braces. If anything ever scratches, I just chew gum and put it back there xD<br><br>
Here's a tip: don't drink out of pop/soda cans. If you accidentally bump your teeth while they're that sore... OUCH.
<br>^^Bumping your teeth feels like you've knocked one out xD<br><br>Really if you chew gum, the pain will go away faster. Course, the gum will hurt, but definitely better in the long run.

<br>>.> This is happening to me right now haha<br>I wore the 'plates' or 'retainers' for like the first 6 months.. then I'd forget one night.. and then it woud be two.. then three.. etc. Until finally whenever I did wear them for a full night I would wake up with a numb face and my teeth would bleed like crazy when I tried to take the plates out and I couldn't eat that day. So.. I don't wear them >.<<br>I regret it so much, teeth have moved. They're still reasonably straight but.. yeah. <br><br>Moral of that; WEAR YOUR RETAINERS/PLATES!!! <br>Even if they tell you to wear them till you're 21 and at the time you just got your braces off you were 12. -.-" <br><br>

<br>I found gum was the worst thing ever to chew with braces. <br>The gum would just get stuck and go all stringy and gross. <br>I also found the longer I went without wax, the less my braces cut me. <br><br>Good luck!

<br>Really? Was it sugar free gum? If I chew gum that has sugar, it gets stuck everywhere. But, if it's sugar free it's all good.<br>You're right about the wax though. Leaving it off is the way to go.
Woah Sea Oats. I wouldn't be able to do that. XD<br><br>Thanks for the advice! My teeth feel a little better now, but I've still been eating soft foods.<br><br>Oh yikes Bob! That sucks, haha. I'll try and be responsible when i get one but I knows those things are uncomfortable. I mean, that's what I've heard. XD<br><br>That sounds HORRIBLE wetnose. ):<br><br>Power chains? O_O Those just sound like some kind of death tool.<br><br>Oh lawd.. I was eating ice cream the other day to numb my teeth and I made the mistake if using a metal spoon.. Bumped one of the worst aching teeth. ;-; I just like, went into shock and was like,"Oh no am I gonna die "<br><br>But I didn't die, luckily.<br><br>Oh no clozo. That sounds terrible! Scary. I don't like blood. o.o
I don't have braces was supposed to get them but then decided against it, but I do know the pain of bumping metal and metal in your mouth... I have 2 gold teeth at the back of my mouth, one at the top and one at the bottom & in the same place. So what happens sometimes is I put my fork in my mouth to eat and it hurt, so natural reaction was to lift the fork up... wrong move... hurt my other tooth as well. Luckily learned not to do that any more. I'm actually glad I don't have braces sounds very painful.
I had to have braces for about 2 - 3 years when I was 12. It hurt that crap the first two or three days but after that, the pain subsided a little. I finally got used to it and when I got them off, it felt weird -not- having stuff attatched to my teeth haha. I got one of those Invisalign clear retainers and lost it after about two weeks so yeah my bottom teeth have already messed themselves back up =P My top teeth are still ok though. When I had my braces I had to have this awful surgery. They scraped the skin off a tooth in the roof of my mouth and attatched it to my brackets with some sort of chain. They also cut a tooth out of the front of my bottom row of teeth and out of the roof of my mouth and I had to have several stitches. I've always had a small mouth and had to have several of my adult teeth pulled when I was younger.

I had mine put on 8 years ago and still have them now (I have horrible teeth) and it was only supposed to take 3-4 years..... Then we found out they would have to reset my jaw (which involved breaking my jaw and putting it the way they needed it to be) so JUST braces are not that bad. I hate having to watch what I eat (I have not had Jaw Breakers, Apples, etc since they were put on). Now they are thinking I will have to have this device that goes in my mouth behind my teeth that I will have to tighten with a key and it will push out my jaw to fix my under/over bite (because I have both).
