Quick Question

edited February 2012 in Questions/Support
Well this might sound stupid but say me and 2 other people wanted to buy a kennel and all wanted to ship in but wanted to pay with rl money and not vpc, could they all but it somehow through paypal?

 • You would need to pay for it all in one chunk, so you all have to send the money to one person and have said person pay for it -- and hoping they actually did. It'd be far too easy for them to accept the money and disappear. Paypal rarely refunds money in dispute cases, and VP can't do much because there wouldn't be proof to back your story. Screenshots of the payment can be innocent in nature -- could have just simply been a payment you owed rather than an elaborate scam scheme.

I do want to say that I highly recommend not sharing an account with anyone. In a situation like that, ownership is tough to prove, so it would be unbelievably easy for someone to take it. Quite a few people have had issues as of late with kennel sharing, and it's even worse when you see it happen to people who trusted their 'friends' only to get backstabbed. I share a kennel with someone I've known for seven years, but it took six years to even decide to share an account with her. I don't share with people I don't firmly know because even I've been bitten by trusting the wrong people.

 • Thanks for the answer :) the funny thing is I had no intention of doing this the question just poped into my head one day lol
 • Couldn't the three people just mail 1/3 of the payment each to the VP "headquarters"?

The payments would arrive separately, likely spaced several days apart. It would probably cause confusion if not done properly, just as sending separate payments via Paypal would. You would all have to reference the same account and mention that additional payments would be arriving, and hope that none of the others got lost. It would suck for a business owner to receive two split payments only to never receive the final payment. Those who sent money would get refunds, but if money is lost there's nothing they can do.

Sometimes it can take 2-3 weeks, occasionally longer, just to get mail from the US to Canada. I don't know why it takes so long, but during that time mail can easily become lost or stolen, especially if you send cash rather than a check or money order.

I would find Paypal as a more secure option than mail. At least with Paypal there is a trail to prove payment being sent, whereas with mail it's all based on a person's word.
