Locked Dogs

If this has come up before, then I apologize.

I think it would be great to have locked dogs, especially gifites. So if you have been gone for the 6 month you can have a lock on your dogs that you don't want to be rescued and have them untouchable. So if the dog is locked you can't breed, train, release, retire, age, etc. Because when I scurry the forums and people have been gone, and they have gifties that they bought with their real money. And they have to pay someone their VPC to get something they paid for back, makes no since to me. That's were this locked dogs idea came from. Of course the number of locks would be limited, based on how many dogs you have in your kennel. Preferably 1/4 of dog locks.

I was thinking you can buy dog locks for $1 or $2 or already have them on your kennel.

So Ye' or Ne'?

  • the only thing about it is think of all the novices who are gonna lock these horrible dogs that are just gonna slow the server down. Its a nice idea, but the way i see it, if you truely care about keeping your dogs then you care enough to check in once every six months. Its not that hard =)
  • I agree with both of your points.
If it were available for money/sponsors the novices wouldn't be locking the bad dogs. So, I think it's pretty good if they were limited, like you said.

I thought the same thing. I wanted to find an example but didn't want anyone to feel like they had a crap dog, lol. But a very valid point.

  • This would kind of make rescues useless.

  • I am for the lock idea, but I think it should be for very exceptional circumstances. Maybe $5 is a fairer price? That would greatly reduce the potential for people to purchase one for a poor quality dog (particularly if a lock was permanent and can't be transferred to another dog).

I agree with this.

Also a lot of people don't plan on leaving, they just log on less and less until they stop completely. So, they probably wouldn't even thought of locking their dogs.

I completely agree with this! Once every six months is not that hard.

  • Maybe not, but I've lost my home and not been in a place to get online for over a year at a time.

not trying to be run here =) but arent there any libraries you could go to to log on? Like i said, not rude or snappy in any way. And there might not be a library near you.
  • Everyone has made good points. Yes anybody could just log on once every three months. The idea just came up, because I've seen players loose all their dogs and gifites and they have to pay to get them back (mainly gifties). I know I would be in a real fit if I couldn't log on and my gifties have all been rescued and turned into 15OAK's and have to pay 15mil or more just to get something I bought with my real cash back.

But the locks could expire in about a month, to even things out. If you can't log on in 7months (locked dogs only) then they could be rescued. Rescue would still be in business because it would be only 2 locked dogs out of a 100 in that kennel.

But then again you could always log on.

  • I can understand why people would want to lock their dogs and why rescues would be against it. While yes, you pay $9 for a color, rescues also have to pay $16-$25. The only perk of being a rescue kennel is getting to rescue dogs. It's been like this since VP was made. Locks, for money or not, don't offer any compensation to rescues who might lose out on a kennel because of it.

I've had dogs rescued in the past. I got angry that I let them sit unattended and angry at the rescues for taking them. I've also rescued dozens of gorgeous dogs, many of which I've kept for the sole reason of keeping them safe. I've also tried to contact people in an attempt to get them to log in before they could be rescued. Sometimes they get on in time, sometimes they don't.

When I know I'm going to be away from the site for a long period of time, I'd either A) give the dogs to someone I trusted, or B) give the log in information to someone I trusted. Back in 2005, I had to move across the country and was without internet for over three months. Jinxx kindly logged into my kennels and took care to make sure my dogs were not rescued. I'm not saying I recommend sharing accounts or giving out your information, but if you've known someone for quite some time and know you can trust them (a friend in real life, family member, etc.) then I say do whatever you can to keep the account semi-active.

In some cases people just can't access internet for over six months. Some of those individuals can't get to a library, friends house, internet capable cell phone, school computer, etc. One of my friends lived in her car/on the streets for over a year. Surviving real life is more important than a game. Stressing over logging in every six months to lose yet another thing just adds more to a persons plate.

However, having dogs rescued previously, I would still never use a lock. I understand that rescues have to do what they can to make their money worthwhile as well. If I made the mistake or if life circumstances lead me to lose anymore, then so be it. Being a sponsor rescue also requires me to understand that, while I've luckily obtained some of these prized dogs, it comes at a cost to the original owner. That said, if someone politely messaged me asking for their dog back, I would do my best to accommodate that request.

    On an indefinite hiatus.
  • Like Ana said, there are times when you don't have friends or family nearby, and I certainly didn't have money for a phone lol. Our library actually had a Barracuda filter that blocked VP as well as any other game. Being an adult isn't always fun ;o;

  • I definitely disagree with locks. It would be just more complaining for people who couldn't afford to lock their dogs and rescues that couldn't rescue locked dogs.
Every 6 months is twice a year. Most everywhere has internet, coffee shops, cafes, airports, friend's phones, schools, libraries, even Wal-Mart has wifi.
If I went away for over 6 months and didn't log in, it would be my own fault for not logging in.
If locks were put into place, then rescues would become useless and I think people who are here just because of rescue kennels would leave the game.

I understand that real life is more important than a game. If you lose something on a game, just build up and start over again. (:

To me, this would be about the same as buying locks for sponsor kennels when you aren't going to be using them...
Oh, I'm going on a month long vacation, so I'm going to lock my kennel for the month so that it doesn't expire.
That would make no sense at all.
