Just a little bit of input, sometimes you have to be tough on a horse, im not a trainer or a rider, though i used to ride when i was younger at the stables. We had a horse there called Chester and every so often he would just pull his head down and try and force you off, and the riding teacher was like pull his head up and then if i couldn't do it with the reins she'd gently yank on the bit to make it put its head up, it was dead scary at times cause it felt like it would chuck me off, and in my opinion the horse shouldnt have been used for training new riders.
She's not saying that a stronger bit is wrong, however a stronger bit shouldnt be a shortcut to correcting a training problem in a horse. When my horse was barrel racing she was in a combination bit with a wire connected to the rein. As soon as i got her i placed her in an o ring snaffle. She didnt understand it, different presure points so i tried her in a simple curve shanked broken curb. It did wonders on her. A bit should be used to communicate with the horse, not yank on it of course, but if my horse runs off then im not gonna hasitate to use something i have to HELP me. You dont tell a child something and not reinforce it with something stronger when they dont listen. And actually reins arent the means of directing a horse. In a well trained horse your body should do everything. With my ex barrel racer, i can (now, with six months of constant training) ride her tackless. No bridle, no saddle, and she goes where i point her using my body weight.

All that to say, yes a horse might need a different bit but it shouldnt be a shortcut for proper training in a horse. Thats how crazy horses are created.

I agree completely! My Appy is an ex barrel racer and was abused even and after a few months of working with her I could ride tackless and only use my body language to guide her. I also agree with the stronger reins. You can't expect the horse no matter what contraption you put on it to listen to you if it is not properly disciplined. If my Appy does not stop I am going to pull on the reins to stop her. She is not going to disobey me when I have to trust her not to hurt me. How can you trust a horse that you have not well-disciplined? (Not saying your horse is not, just in general)
You're giving a horse human emotions that it does not have. If she continues running off and is still in the mindset that she's on the track, she needs to be given some time off just being a horse (with groundwork of course) and restarted, completely. A different bit is notthe end all solution. From what you've said, I've come to the conclusion that this horse has a dangerous habit that could seriously injure or kill someone. Even if it's not the rider. If Fendi is bolting around an arena with no control, she could easily run someone on the ground over, run into another horse, spook another horse into freaking out, etc. I would hope that a horse that bolts (scared or not) would not be showing competatively. I know a lot of the shows I go to (even just the small local ones) will ask you to leave (actually telling you to, but nicely) because the horse is a hazard to everyone's safety.

What kind of bit is she in, tiny?
Fendi is now being trained by a Profennfiasl trainer,so I hope that kinda helps the bit Fendi is in now is a:Loose Ring Nathe Mullen mouth Snaffle

I agree. If you do not discipline them correctly then they will continue with bad and in this case dangerous habits. I honestly do not see the issue with what the old trainer did if Fendi bolted out while they were in saddle. Did it even run trough your mind that he/she was just trying to stop her and not even discipline her to start with? If a horse bolts out like that and will not stop with a lite hand then you have to put your back into it. That is just how it is. I have owned horses my entire life and most were ex-barrel racers or ex-racers and even if they came from a bad past we STILL had to teach them wrong from right and even had to retrain them in the basics with groundwork at times. NO ONE is saying your horse is bad or out to kill you, we are just telling you what is true. It boils down to: Fendi bolted out so the trainer stopped her by pulling the reins.

I ride english as well and it does not matter what style you ride, if a horse does not stop you have to stop it. The trainer can not take the risk of injuring themselves, another person, or even your horse. What if she had done that somewhere besides a ring? What if it was the pasture fencing? There would be injury to your horse, the rider, and possibly other horses that escape. Now I am going to be the adult and stop the argument. We are offering to give you help and tell you what you think and you are obviously not taking the advise we are giving. If you are going to act childish about this then just do not post things like this on forums. People are going to post what they think if you do.

Tiny, no matter what discipline you ride in, pretty much the same rules apply as to safety. I ride english, too, but it doesn't mean there are different rules as to training process (horse learning properly), and disciplinary measures of being safe.
You guys i love the info but you are all western english is so differnt
ACTUALLY i ride english AND western. The basis for riding a horse is the same no matter what discipline. Im sorry your feeling so offended by the advice and im glad your getting a professional to work her through her issues.
Dont worry about it Tiny. Just realize that when working with animals that could EASILY kill you if they had half a mind there is no room for coddling a horse. There are two types of horses im stricter with. Abused and Spoiled and your horse sounds as if she's both. Being strict on her isnt to hurt her feelings and its not going to. Its going to make a comfort zone where she can KNOW where right and wrong is for her and letting her realize HOW she needs to act so she can stay in a nice place. Were not trying to bully you, were trying to keep YOU safe and keep your HORSE out of a slaughter house.
Thats where most TBs go after they hit the track sadly. Luckily the people i get my TBs from absolutely LOVE theirs and if i hadnt taken Nova then im pretty sure Mrs. Connie wouldve kept her. She still comes over to watch me ride her sometimes. Believe it or not, my future plans include retraining OTTBS as dressage and jumpers.
Im a big fan of em definitally. I wish i could jump my girl but for her to obtain the ability she'd need surgery and that has a lot of risks involved. I work at a racetrack on the weekends and i have first dibs on the ones there when they retire if i have the room for em haha!
