Squirrels

** Just a note for anyone prior to actually reading this thread, these are wild squirrels. They are not domesticated. They are afraid of all humans except for certain members of my family, which has taken over six years to achieve (and quite by accident). I do not recommend trying to domesticate, capture, or otherwise come into direct physical contact with a wild animal of any kind. **

Now then, as stated above, these are wild squirrels. They're very picky on who they approach. If it's not myself, my mother, or my brother, they're deathly afraid. My mom enjoys feeding these guys and it has just become something that all the squirrels seem to be aware of. Every morning, as soon as the front door opens, dozens of them come from across the street and several are already waiting for their breakfast. In the past year, they've becoming increasingly outgoing and have come to trust us.

They all have their own personalities. Some are more outgoing than others, some are bullies, and some are aloof. A couple have earned themselves names in the past -- the most memorable being Whitefoot, a smaller male with white stockings and Collie, a female with white paws and a white spot on her chest.

<img src="http://i942.photobucket.com/albums/ad263/anabellemoone/squirrel.png"; alt="http://i942.photobucket.com/albums/ad263/anabellemoone/squirrel.png"; class="bb-image" />
- This is our most outgoing boy. He knocks on the door when he wants food and will take a couple steps inside the house.

<img src="http://i942.photobucket.com/albums/ad263/anabellemoone/testanimate.gif"; alt="http://i942.photobucket.com/albums/ad263/anabellemoone/testanimate.gif"; class="bb-image" />
- Got this using my cameras "sport continuous" option. Neat thing. :D

The rest of these were taken today. Unfortunately the house was dark and outside was rather bright, so the pictures aren't good at all.

<img src="http://i942.photobucket.com/albums/ad263/anabellemoone/squir5.png"; alt="http://i942.photobucket.com/albums/ad263/anabellemoone/squir5.png"; class="bb-image" />
- Inside the house

<img src="http://i942.photobucket.com/albums/ad263/anabellemoone/squir4.png"; alt="http://i942.photobucket.com/albums/ad263/anabellemoone/squir4.png"; class="bb-image" />
- "I got it! I got it!"

<img src="http://i942.photobucket.com/albums/ad263/anabellemoone/squir3.png"; alt="http://i942.photobucket.com/albums/ad263/anabellemoone/squir3.png"; class="bb-image" />
- "What are you up to?"

<img src="http://i942.photobucket.com/albums/ad263/anabellemoone/squir2.png"; alt="http://i942.photobucket.com/albums/ad263/anabellemoone/squir2.png"; class="bb-image" />
- "So many to choose from, oh my. How can I ever choose?!"

<img src="http://i942.photobucket.com/albums/ad263/anabellemoone/squir-1.png"; alt="http://i942.photobucket.com/albums/ad263/anabellemoone/squir-1.png"; class="bb-image" />
- "Does she see me?!"

And I cannot leave out the blue jays. They're not the least bit okay with humans. They'll take off if you even look at them funny. One did steal a nut out of the house today, but I'm hoping that they won't do that again. XD

<img src="http://i942.photobucket.com/albums/ad263/anabellemoone/blue-1.png"; alt="http://i942.photobucket.com/albums/ad263/anabellemoone/blue-1.png"; class="bb-image" />

I might add more pictures later, especially if I can get one of the outgoing male having all four paws inside the house.

 • I love squirrels - they are very cute! I have bird feeders in my back yard and always put seed/feed on the ground to make certain the squirrels get to eat too.

 • My best friend actually has a pet squirrel. It fell out of its nest when it was a little thing and the mother never claimed it again, so now he's in a bird house in the house lol! He's the cutest thing! He loves to show off. Hence his name.. Hammy... cuz he's a ham. They even let him out in the house and he LOVES to play with the cat. He has a box that he loves as well. I asked her if she was gonna let him go and she said she doesnt think itll be a good idea because he's not fearful of humans and he doesnt seem like he minds where he's at now. He lives perfectly happy.
 • Love them! :P
