We just went and rescued a colt from someone a few miles from where we live. He was supposedly born on June 21st and is also supposedly a appaloosa quarter horse cross, but who knows...any way here he is.

I worm as soon as theyre off their mother. When they're nursing, they get wormed through their mothers milk but as soon as they reach the age where theyre off her i worm them. He's definitally got a pot belly and its usually worms. It can also be just a poor diet but worming is definitally the first action to take. If you look at the pics of my colt he's never had a pot belly like the one on your gorgeous guy soo id definitally worm him.
No problem. From what i can see i really like him conformation wise. He's got some powerful muscle though his neck is a bit short. Im in LOVE with his short face and tiny ears! I cant really tell but he looks like his front feet turn inward but that could be because he isnt fully squared. With how bright his color is while being fluffy he's gonna be a real looker when he looses that belly and sheds off in the spring!!
i love his face too! and thanks im kind of excited to start working with him and see how his color turns out. I'll try to post more pics as soon as i can. His name is Bocephus (Bo), after Hank Williams Jr.
Oh gosh. Im not help there. I have owned plenty of barrel horses and i truely cant stand them. Theyre all pushy in my opinion. Then again. Ima reiner and a halter horse handler so i like slow, barely noticable actions that even the slightest tap can spin a horse like a soda bottle. Loose rein, low head, listening the every tiny tap and shift in my seat. I actually ride a barrel mare atm and if she doesnt want to listen she doesnt. Ive spent the last two days running her to make her calm down and it hasnt helped a bit x.X Usually it does but she threw a head shaking, foot stomping, shouldering out hissy fit earlier and yesterday she tried to unseat me cuz i wouldnt let her run like a crazy person on the rail.
i thought about trying to learn reining but i just couldn't quite decide. Then the lady i was going to learn it from kept not replying to me, then the opportunity came up to learn barrel racing so im going to try it out ( on this other ladies horses) and then figure out for sure what i want to do with him. i love your horse Roman, he is adorable!! i am constantly looking to see if you have uploaded new pictures of him
Haha! Thanks. He's a doll! I have been taking him to the arena when i ride Rosie lately and a guy came up and asked me if he was broke for beginners and for sale because he wanted a horse for his girlfriend to ride. I looked at him like he was dumb and told him that Roman was only 8 months old and no he wasnt broke OR for sale. Some people these days. I felt like my colt has been checked out by a creepy stalker. I need to update pics actually. I have some from when i dressed him up for halloween but i havent edited them yet
I know. Right after he asked me he said he needed to go "work his horse" soo he got into alley and just started hammering the horses side and yelling and ran INTO the arena and stopping four times then decided he was done and put his horse up. I halfway wish the horse hadda thrown him. Dude didnt know what he was doing other than pushing the gas pedal! Made me physically sick. And his horse was COVERED in scars. Then he was tellin me how he thinks his mare is pregnant cuz she's a bag of bones and isnt gaining any weight even though he's feeding her all these feeds and she has a belly. I asked him how much hay she was getting and he said a flake a day. x.X ooh lord. I told him to give her at least 3 a day and to worm her. *Headdesk headdesk*

Aaaand i didnt wanna overdo it as it was his first arena trip so i dressed him up as a spider web. I put black felt over his back and put cotton webbing over it and put on some glittery spiders

Id never get rid of my boy! He was my very first horse and is sooo goofy (: we had to cut his mane like that because kahlua and been taking his hair off?? Is there maybe a reason shed be doing that?
Some horses just do. When Roman was a baby he ate some of my show mares tail... and ive been growing that thing for YEARS!! x.X she's got a really thin tail and he ate it x.X If youd like you can keep it braided and she shouldnt be able to eat it, or you can keep them seperated.
Aw! I just got my horse a halter in the same blue the halter he has on is. XD

They look rather alike in the face. You can see a resemblance.

Clicky (:

He's very cute. As for getting him to trust/get used to you so that he isn't scared, try just sitting in his paddock a safe distance away, and give him treats so that he knows you are only good for him, not bad. Also, work very slowly around him. They are flight animals. If you want some tips, feel free to PM me. I study horse nature and bonding, so I know all about their ways.
