ipod in toilet!

edited December 2011 in General Discussion
Well today i dropped my ipod in the toilet! right as it fell in i imediatley threw my hand in (clean water) and got it out, i was so scared cause that thing is like my life, its like one of the couple things i have left and i just paniced i dryed it off and it worked and i was so thankfull and happy. then it turned off and wouldn't turn back on so i rushed to the computer to see what i could do and i heard putting it in a bowl of rice would help draw out the moisture so i am now sitting here with my bowl of rice ipod praying that it will be ok.

I after wait 1-2 days before i take it out but my ipod is cracked at the top and bottom so water probably got in there even more, and i was just gonna go and get it fixed to i had money saved up and everything, i dont have the money to replace one of these though =( idk what im gonna do.

Any ideas?

  • Give it a few more days before you write it off as dead. Mine AND my brothers ipods both got washed and once they dried completely they both worked afterwards.
  • i am im so nervous though. like all my dogs pics are on there except for a few that i have taken off and oh i just can't live without it lol but i will did you just leave yours out? or did you put it in something?

  • I just left it out. The ricebowl trick does work however i hadnt known it at the time. If water is the only problem with it (and it sounds like it is. So dont worry ;D) then it should be perfectly fine.
  • should i take it out of the rice? ( i feel so stuiped lol XD)

  • No no no rice works great!

The pictures, your local computer maintenance store MIGHT be able to get the photo's off and onto a disc if you can't for some reason get it to work. I've heard of my brothers friend (who works at a computer repair store) say he's had people come in with broken iPods to have him get their music/photos off lol but im not sure if it can really be done. I've just heard it from the guy that works there, but hes also a hacker/maintenance guy sooooo it may not have been done legally xD

I drenched my old laptop in Orange Soda when it got knocked off my table next to my bed. I put it in rice and it soaked the liquid out but the stickyness was in there and it had already friend the hard drives and stuff 0.0 It will turn on and load but then it will get to a certain spot and the screen will go black and it will start making a high pitched screeching noise and i gotta take the battery out. It charges just fine and everything. It just won't fully load up haha

My ex boyfriends mom spilled soda on hers too and actually put it int he dishwater opened up, washed it, then placed it in rice, and it worked fine a few days later day 0.0 I dont know how but i was there and saw it haha thats the only way i know its true.
  • Wow thats amazing lol about the dishwasher and cleaning it and it still working! i have hope but my luck isn't the best so yeah lol my fingers are crossed! Its still in the bowl in front of my i have to hide it though because i will probably be yelled at if my mom finds out lol cause like a couple weeks ago i broke my expensive phone and my mom was really mad and this isn't that old either and we don't have money to throw away lol so yeah

  • Oh i know the feeling! I had a new iPod not even a year old and it got stolen at my ex boyfriends college dorm... -_- i got a new one but it was like a while later and was one of my only christmas gifts. I lost it in my boyfriends truck about 3 weeks later, then I lost it again like 3 months later (left it at my boyfriends moms house in arkansas) and my parents told me i wasn't getting another one ever if i lost it -_- haha

yea i cant believe it worked i thought for sure she had screwed it up 0.0 when i spilled soda on mine she told me to ry the dishwasher but i was scared it wouldn't work even though i watched her do it! I mean what if she just got lucky and it worked on accident ya know??? xD
  • oh i know thats crazy that puts me in like aww lol it gives me more hope that mine will still work though

  • I feel stupid for not ever realizing she spelt stupid wrong XD
  • Rofl, you're just like me, Pom. If my iPod went in the toilet, I'd probably be in tears. Just because I rarely get to go on the computer, and the iPod is well.. always there! I've probably spent over 30 dollars just trying to protect the dang thing. -_-

Lol, these things are pretty durable, my dog tried to turn mine into a chew toy once, and it came off without a scratch, expect.. I had to buy a new protective case. Hopefully yours is okay! I feel your pain.

  • I dropped my iPhone in a sink full of water when I was washing the dishes.. poured alcohol into a bowl and put my iPhone in it because alcohol (the kind you use to clean minor wounds and to sterilize), dries everything up and wont hurt the device, I use it all the time to clean my phone and iPod. After I used the alcohol I put my phone in a bowl of rice and it turned on/worked perfectly a day later. Another time I dropped my iPhone (same one), in the toilet and there was no alcohol in the house, so I double wrapped it in two socks and put it in the dryer for a few minutes, took it out and charged it and it was back to normal. The key is getting all the water dried out, obviously.. but you HAVE TO be quick. Good luck though, hopefully just the rice works for you.
Goodbye old VP, hello disaster. xD
  • My best friend and I were staying in a tent this summer and it was raining a lot outside. Somehow, a lot of water ended up inside the tent on the ground where her iPod touch and phone had been sitting. She put them both in rice and waiting around five days. The iPod had been drenched in water for probably half of the night.

It worked fine for a few months but recently it has been getting really slow. It could be because it's about to reach it's first birthday soon (haha) and they're known for starting to crap out over time, but it's also likely it's because it has been damaged by water.

Good luck with your own iPod! Just remember that it could be fine at first but reveal problems later on. D:
  • it works!!!! i plugged it in today to charge it and it worked! i am so excited ahh i can't believe it works! thanks so much for all the advice
