Maybe Getting Another Horse?

As a lot of you may know, I lost Gamby a few weeks ago and it has hit me pretty hard. When I took Creole to a show a few days ago, Georgia was by herself in the pasture and flipped out. She doesn't like being alone and I feel bad for her ): I'm not ready for another horse, but my dad thinks it would be of better interest for Georgia since I will be traveling a lot with Creole next year. I don't want another just yet, but I want your opinions. I'm not sure if I want another horse to ride and show, or just pasture horse. Maybe even a mini just to keep Georgia and/or Creole company when one or the other is gone?

Maybe a goat or something would work? Ive heard a lot about horses forming bonds with other animals. As long as she wouldnt injure it of course.

That would certainly be interesting. Nah, Georgia couldn't hurt a fly even if she tried, although she is notorious for tripping over smaller things but I don't think it would be a problem. I was thinking about maybe a mini...but a goat just sounds adorable!

I've been showing Georgia for years lol But Creole was bought specifically for showing and eventing which is why I've been showing him more lately. I still show Georgia a lot, but I take Creole to the bigger, higher level shows.

Ah I see. Well I think you could either do like Vampy says and get a smaller animal or just take Georgia to shows if you have a big enough horse trailer for both. Gambie was yours? 0_o I thought he was the stables horse or something 0_o

The trailer is big enough but she was just be sitting in the trailer all day because there wouldn't be anyone to get her out. Most of the shows i go to are one day things. We trailer in, do the show, then trailer home. Yep, Gamby was mine

I'm with Vampy! My grandmother puts goats or cows in the pasture with her horses. Especially when a mare is in heat and has to be separated from the herd in the back pasture. She brings the mare into it's own pen near the barn and puts a goat in with her to keep her company =D

Georgia does showmanship and jumping classes. Sometimes my aunt keeps her horse at my house because she travels a lot. I might try to talk her into keeping Kindle at my house all the time.

xD ive even heard of a racehorse who became attached to a miniature donkey and wouldnt settle down at a track or race well unless it was there hahaha! Dont remember his name though.

My mom talked to one of her friends and as it turns out they are selling a mini as well as 1 other horse. I've met one of the horses they are selling, he's an unbroken Bay QH. He's sooooo sweet and I fell in love with him the last time I saw him. We are going to their house Saturday morning to see the mini and the other one. Who knows, I may end up with 2 horses instead of one! I'm still not ready to take on another big horse, but I did like the QH they had and maybe he could be a nice halter horse or just a nice companion. I dunno...I guess we'll see! I <333333333333 him!!! Hes SO GORGEOUS! QHs rule! LOL. A Warmblood sounds nice too! If you get the QH he looks pretty good for halter from what I can see ;D I would want to do competition on him if I were you too xD but thats just me..

Just found out they already sold their Am Warmblood. He was gaited, so not really my favorite anyways lol The QH is such a sweetie! He's got a BEAUTIFUL temperment and is really smart. I think if I get him he would be a good fit for my herd and family. He reminds me a lot of Gamby. Calm and sweet, but a bit of a spaz lol

yeah, I actually worked with training and breaking a couple QHs over the summer. Creole = thoroughbred/warmblood/QH cross Georgia = Arabian/QH cross

Georgia is trained in jumping and flat (lots of schooling to get her to collect...it was a terror.) And Creole is trained in jumping as well. He's my main eventer and my high jumper. Georgia is far too lazy to jump any more than 2.5 - 3 feet haha

Haha no problem, I love questions! Never did dressage. Too expensive >.< I helped train Georgia but not Creole. Creole was trained at a jumping barn. Oh yes, I showed Gamby when I was younger. He was my first 'real horse' . I had ponies before. I showed Gamby in mostly just flat classes, equitation, and I learned to jump on him as well. I worked on breaking a QH and training the other for showmanship.

That stinks! If I did english I would be all over dressage! Even if it was just for fun. Because I love all the fancy moves. xD Cool! Thats so sad D; As in english showmanship and breaking english? xD

Dressage gets really expensive and takes a TON of training for both the rider and horse. Yep, English showmanship and breaking english. I've never done anything with western except for a few trail rides lol. That's about as close to western riding as I've ever been

It takes a LONG time to train a barrel and pole horse properly, its taken me 2 years, but it would take less if I could go over there more, like everyday or so. But its worth it. Im almost ready with Babydoll to show. ;D If you go too fast your horse will go crazy. Dx I LOVE it though. I suggest using a horse thats already trained for it and is reliable when you do it. ;D

I have a friend who is an AMAZING barrel racer. Her horse is sooo well trained and she's a very talented rider. She might let me try on her horse ^.^

That would be awesome! GET VIDEOS OF HER AND IF SHE LETS YOU USE HER HORSE FOR ME!!! XD I don't like using a horse that I didn't train for barrels as much as one I finished/trained. It makes you feel more accomplished when you are coming home, thinking about all you've gone through with the horse.
