I'm taking care of my neighbors Lab mix (Levi), and their Dachshund/Beagle (Copper). I went down there to feed them and check on them. I saw Copper (the Doxie/Beagle) dragging something behind him. I went up the drive-way, and saw that Copper had something caught around his neck. It was his bed, the plasic lining was caught around his neck, nearly stangling him to death. At first, I thought it was just caught to his collar, and I could remove his collar. But nuu! I tried to free him-it was extremly tight. He had been like this all night? He was running in the yard with a bed around his neck. The tear was just big enough to fit his neck in. How does that happen? Really, what are the chances of getting a BED stuck on your neck? Luckly, I had some fabric scissors in my pocket that I always have with me to cut him free. No, I went to their neighbors house, who is very close friends with them..and knows their dogs well. She gave me some scissors, I cut the bed off this neck...and Copper was free!

Someone needs a new bed now. It was all torn up anyway, and I cut it..

Has anyone else had any dog sitting scares?

  • I was watching my roommates dog for a week when he went to Cancun, and he had just left, so he tied her to a table on the porch WITHOUT me knowing. I called her for a walk and rattled her choke chain, she ALWAYS comes when I do that, but this time she didn't, so I went for the walk without her thinking she was napping or eating and that I could always take her for the evening walk instead. (I have scheduled walks). Me and my other dogs took a LONG walk, we must have been gone for atleast an hour. When I got back home the dog didn't greet me, so I instantly started calling and looking for her. When I finally walked to the porch all I saw was her rope running off the porch as if someone had grabbed it and jumpd off. When I went to take a look it was the dog, hanging from the rope, off of the ten foot high porch. She had literally hanged her self and was BLUE AND PURPLE. I instantly jumped over the porch rail to the floor so I could lift her hanging body up, I was able to reach up and unclip the rope from her collar, and she fell limp into my arms. I remembered a story I had seen on TV and I raced into the house to fill a bath tub up with cold water and throw her in. I dunno how that worked, or if that was even what I was supposed to do, all I know is that I was panicking and It DID work. She turned back to normal color and was breathing steadily again. xD Did I mention that while the tub was filling up I was giving her CPR. Like, LITERALLY giving the dog CPR. lol. I rule. xD She's in perfect health now, she isn't even afraid of the porch though, and we never tie her out there anymore.
Goodbye old VP, hello disaster. xD
  • That's scary, Zyn! D8 I'm glad she was okay. I felt like I was the only one though. I thought I was going to have a heart attack or something. For a moment I was in some kind of trance, but then was like "SICSSORS!" xD Whenever I go see the dogs, Copper is always the one to whine for attention and make all sorts of sounds. Kinda like a pig. He didn't make a sound though. Phew! I'm -so- glad his owners are home now.
  • I was dog-sitting my older brother's dog when he went on his honeymoon, and I had a scare as well. His dog is a collie mix and his name is Max. We have a large fenced in back yard were we used to keep our farm dog at night, and that were we decided to keep him until my brother returned due to the fact that my own dogs hated him. Well Max is used to being inside the house and usuallly sleeps in my brothers bed, and he did not like the fact that he was out side. He whined and scratched at the door but we tried our best to ignore him. Well I heard himm yelp and I ran outside thinking that something was attacking him. Well he was in the cornor of the fence whimpering and one of my outside cats was hissing at him. I have never seen a dog so afraid of a cat before. Needless to say I took him inside for the rest of his stay
