So, I don't really think I'm ready to write this, but I'm forcing myself to because maybe it'll help me accept what has happened.

Yesterday I had all three dogs outside playing. Dusty and Stormy were running all around the yard as fast as they could. I turned to look at Jacoby and behind me I heard a blood-curdling yelp/scream...It was my Dusty boy. As I'm sure most of you know by now, Dusty is my black Lab...and everything that is important to me. I ran to go help him and when I got to him he was dragging his two back legs, trying to walk. I thought he had broken his legs. I never expected what was to come.
We brought him to the animal hospital, and we were told this as soon as we walked through the door (after they had taken Dusty out back on a stretcher) "Will you be using cash, credit or debit to pay for this visit?"...Yea, lots of compassion for animals huh? So after we got the monetary situation all fixed, we were told that Dusty had slipped a disc in his back, which pushed up on a tube-like bone that holds nerves, causing severe pain. The vet said that they would load him up with Morphine, muscle relaxers, and anti-inflammatories, and leave him overnight to see if there was any improvement.
We went back to the hospital this morning, at 7, and...he was still the same, if not worse. I went to see my baby and looked into those dark amber eyes and knew it was time. I curled up on the floor next to my boy and held his head while I sang to him. The vet gave him the shot and Dusty went to sleep forever.
Dusty was only 6 years old, and according to the vet he was extremely healthy as far as his heart, lungs, and stuff like that went. He knew some sing language, many tricks, and I also taught him to get the remote and tissues on command. He was my whole world, and I'll never have another dog like him. He was one of those dogs you only get once in your life, the special one that forever leaves a pawprint on your heart, and a big slobbery kiss on your cheek.
