Manners

edited August 2011 in Vent
WHERE have manners disappeard to? I love to help people, both on and off VP. I don't ask for anything in return of course, but is it really that difficult to say "please" when asking a favor, and "thank you" once you've been helped? I was raised to respect people, and be nice, and 95% I am. I'm not saying I'm perfect, I'm far from that. I'm going to start rambling, so I'll just end my rant here. If anybody finds out where Manners have traveled to, please let me know...I want to buy a one way ticket to the far off land.

  • I know, this is becoming a problem! I was raised with manners, but I can be mean, if I dont like someone, I will make sure they know it, and I will either try to fix it or if they are still rude or whatever I will ignore them or whatever I can do.

  • Well let's see my view on manners is you have to earn them. If you run around acting like a n00b I won't use please or thank you. I treat people by how they act.

  • In my opinion, everybody should have manners used on them *shrugs*

  • It's a dog eat dog world. The faster people learn it the better, manners dont save you from being bullied 8 hours a day 5 days a week at school...

  • I hate this! I was helping a newb once and they wanted me to buy them a dog. Of course I said yes because they didn't have enough cash for their favorite breed, and I wanted to get them off to a good start. <br>Me: "Is there anything I could do for you?"<br>them: "ya could u get me a [forgot the breed they wanted.]<br>Me: "Sure. I'll go find you one."<br>Them: "oh i forgot i like [forgot other breed] too while ur at it get me one of those."<br><br>And I only got her the one dog because I was annoyed and then she actually asked me for money. No,"please" or "thank you" or "I appreciate it." Just "get me this. get me that." -___-<br><br>So I really hate these things. Dx I always thank people for the time, for training, etc. Seeing people not just makes me <span style="font-style:italic">mad.</span><br><br><br>In real life though, there's nothing that annoys me more. When people push in line, or when they say "Move!" (This is mostly little kids. Having a little sister I see a lot of this. Not in her but kids she knows.) Or just plain rudeness. UGH!

  • And in RL last night, we blew a tire, and NO ONE even slowed down, to see if we needed help, we knew how to change it, but we had to call a guy that we knew close to there to get something that fit right, and he ended up changing it, but its stupid how no one is considerate anymore!

  • Not stopping to change the tire for a couple who is young doesn't seem so much inconsiderate as prudent. This day in age, with so much concern about being robbed, sued, etc., and most people having access to cell phones, unless the person appears in distress or is elderly, I won't consider stopping to help. They are young, most likely in good health and have a cell phone to get help, sitting for a while on the side of the road for a little bit won't hurt them.<br><br>Now, back before cell phones, I might have stopped and asked if I could call someone for a younger person (20's - 40's) and driven to the nearest gas station or public phone and done so, while an older/elderly person, I would get out and physically help. Nothing like a 5'2" woman in stocking feet (because I was wearing heels that day) pushing an elderly lady's car down the street in the middle of rush hour traffic and no one stopping to help until I got the car off the road, but even that was more than 10 years ago, so not stopping to help isn't anything new.

  • True, but we stop or atleast slow down to make sure they have help/are doing it themselves. I just think its really inconsiderate lol. The whole time I was like "Man I wish Ben was driving by! He would help us!" lol.
