Mutts -.-

edited August 2011 in Vent
im sick and tired of them. Why do people breed them? I currently have 269 of them in MY kennel -.- they were are rescued and soon to be released. I dont get it... They arnt of any value, you cant event them so that they get a good score and earn money, you cant neuter them so that you get 500 VPC. It makes no sence and they are bugging me!! I want them gone... NOW

*end of rant*

(and i am talking about game mutts not real life mutts...)

 • Well sometimes novices breed them and sell the pregnant dogs even if they are mutts and other novices buy them. They dont all understand.

 • -sigh- I don't like mutts either. But you'd be surprised- I have seen some really nice eventing mixed breeds out there that even make me jealous! I'm as anti-mutt-breeding as they get, haha.

But some people don't get it or can't afford another dog to breed with their female in heat.
I of course, like everyone else was a novice and I understand. When you buy two dogs of different breeds and opposite genders, and you're a newer player, you tend to get quite excited when you have a female in heat! I know i used to. I'd breed her immediately even if I didn't have a male of the same breed.
When you don't have enough cash to pay a stud fee or pay for a new male, and you have a female ready to be bred, you quickly think,"I can just sell their puppies!" and of course, if you're a newer player then you won't know how the value of mutts is so low..
And maybe people think a certain color or mix is valuable I know I bred my Bernese Mountain Dog with a SuperPup because I thought people would buy my pups if they were crossed with reward breeds.
And then I also thought that if I sold pregnant females, I xould get a lot of money no matter what breed the father was. And of course I did when other newer players and novices bought them! I thought I was doing a good thing.

By now you're thinking,"Wow! What an irresponsible breeder Fin was!" but the truth is, I still am. ;D

You just have to understand that a lot of the people producing them are newbies, or they just think they're doing the right thing because nobody really taught them. They just need patience..
 • good way to put it Finny... Maybe geting rid of a lot of them will show novices that they arnt good dogs to breed...

 • Well, I think if we can get alot of them on the forums and tell them about stats and things they will be okay, because I learned like everything from reading things on the forums and talking to people on here. I didnt even know about them until VooDoo told me I should join them because I can learn things on here and that in trivias and stuff there is VPC as prizes and stuff.

 • I am anti mutt breeding unless its for a purpose. For example, when people breed a Greyhound with an Italian Greyhound from 2 separate lines to try and create some sort of super speed mutt. In real life I love mutts with a passion. I have never owned a real life pure bred dog, they are alol mutts I have rescued from the pound.(Yeah I own pound dogs haha)

But yes, for game purposes I do believe they are generally a bad idea. But some are cool. Like super speed ones crossed with a gifty to make a super fast gifty mutt. Those are cool.

 • Yes, mutts for a purpose are ok. But i think Mysterous Love is also right that niovices DON'T KNOW and need to be tought...

 • In a gentle way though ;)

Nothing will upset a player more than being told that their dogs are crap, what they are breeding is crap and that they know nothing.

Gotta remember, people can breed and play as they like. Even if it does result in low starred mutts.

So my advice is sure, help educate them if you wish. But be sensitive with how you do it - don't put them down, and be the sensible player and set back if things get heated ;)
 • I think I just might be the only sponsor who likes Mutts. I don't see any problem with them, there no different to any other breed. The only fact is, is that you can't breed them but thats no real reason to dislike them. Don't get me wrong, I don't breed them unless for a purpose (Eventing, In memory for a dog, ect) but I don`t hate them. Lets take Border Collies for a example, no ones got a problem with them but still there are as many of them in VP as Mutts but its like every ones only got a problem with Mutts. Its the same with other popluar breeds. I, in fact have a load of Mutts in my kennel from rescuing them and when they are rescued I keep them and event them. To be honest, they do make good eventers. Just saying, Mutts are as good as any other breed on this game...
 • Collie i know what you mean i have an excellent 10x4 mutt that i use for eventing

 • I love Mutts. :] They're personally my favorite dogs to event and own on VP. To each his own!
