Over the weekend we took the three hour drive to a Saluki specialty, and, well, hit bad traffic and missed it completely. This is something I've been looking forward to for the entire year. It was terrible to come and see people packing up instead of the proud dogs trotting around the ring.

Well, today, there was a smaller Saluki ring we got to watch, and the behavior of some of these people was just bizarre. Not only how the acted to each other, but what they said to their dogs!
There was a small female who was extremely scared of the judge. The poor think kept shying away from the judge, who felt bad for the dog. The dog continued to sway away from the judge while the handler kept trying to pose her, and they eventually just gave up trying with the dog. Her gait was wonky too because of her shyness. Pretty sad, right? Not compared to how the handler treated her afterwards! You could tell this woman was already frustrated with the stubborn and frightened dog, but when they exited the ring afterwards, she scolded the poor Saluki. "You're such a piece of [insert word here.] she says to the dog twice. It was disgusting the way she treated the poor animal.

Now, there was also a man with another gorgeous dog. During the group gait, the handler behind him got too close and scared his dog, messing up his beautiful trot. "I'm sorry, I'm not trying to get too close here!" she laughed. The man turned and glared at her,"Well you're doing a great job of that," and turned back around. If that's not enough, the owner of the dog he was handling asked what was going on from her chair at the side of the ring. "She scared the [insert word of choice here.] out of your dog." he said, the handler he was being a jerk to right next to him. His behavior was unbelievable. And there was no way the judge couldn't have not heard this go on. Still the man won..he was a great handler and this dog was spectacular, but this guy's attitude was uncalled for. -_-

Other than that I had tons of fun at the show. I met a very nice woman who I talked to for a while. She let me kind of stack her dog and take a picture with him and sneak him a few treats too! After that she gave me the ribbon she won at the specialty we missed. "Woah, are you sure?" I asked. "Of course. I don't really collect the ribbons so you can take it." It was very cool. As I walked off with my family to go and see what was going on with the terriers,we heard her say to another breeder,"Just watching out for the juniors." (: (junior as in junior handler, which I a not..yet.)

I wish I could have taken more pictures, but the camera wasn't charged so all I have are the pictures of myself with dog on the phone and maybe a few blurry or small ones of the Salukis and one of a Wesite, but I don't think they're worth showing. This was a really fun trip though, and I'm looking forward to hopefully not missing it next year!
