So I just recently got a job working Day Shift Drive-Thru at a restaurant. My hours were usually 10-4 & 11-4, which I'm completely fine with. I've only been working the job for 2 1/2 weeks now, so I'm still learning stuff.

With the Day Shift, I've pretty much got everything down, there are a few things that I have to ask about and am still learning, though.

Our pay periods are Wednesday-Tuesday so we get our schedule for the next week on Sunday/Monday so we have two-three days to look at it.

My schedule? (The 20th-26)
Wednesday: 10-4 AND 5-8
Thursday: 10-4 & 5-8
Friday: Off
Saturday: 11-4 AND 5-9
Sunday: 10-4 AND 5-8
Monday: Off
Tuesday: Off

When I got hired, they told me I would be Day Shift only [Day shift ends at four and that's when they switch out to night shift] Which I'm perfectly happy working Days because:

1. I have twin babies. If I get home at 8-9 at night (you hardly ever get off when you're supposed to) and I'm completely exhausted from being on my feet for 8.5-9 hours, I don't have as much energy as I'd liked to with them.
2. I have classes starting up for college soon (August 22ndish) and yes, I only have 2 classes that I have to go to school for (Wednesday & Thursday 6-9) BUT if they keep doing these long days, I won't have time to do any of my online classes (4) and they knew about this already.

It just irks me because Day Shift & Night Shift are SOOO much different. I haven't worked breakfast really at Day and Night has so many dinners and stuff that I had no idea how to do. So, here are the main reasons I'm irritated:

1. I was told that I'd only work Day Shift. The Drive-Thru Night Shift Leader was talking to me last night and she said they were supposed to ask me before they put me on any night shifts. No one said one word to me about it.

2. When I asked anyone on Night Shift a question, I got yelled at. Excuse me for being new and wanting to learn things right the first time so I don't have to keep bothering you.

3. The Night Shift Manager...she's a HORRIBLE manager. Why? Both nights I've worked, the only thing she does is sit in her office TEXTING on her phone. We had a rush of people last night (our time is supposed to be 2:15...it was 3:24, that's how bad it was) and the Manager is supposed to come out and help either in Drive-Thru or the Backline Kitchen (the kitchen that cooks all the food for Drive-Thru) AND not to mention, not only did we get a rush with cars, we got a rush with carry-outs AND making desserts (we have to make all desserts now [including for Dining Room]) What did the manager do? NOTHING. She didn't come help. Oh. Wait. She DID come out and made HERSELF a milkshake. That helped a lot. Ugh.

4. We're supposed to wear headsets so we can communicate with each other and answer the Drive Thru thing when it beeps. I didn't get a headset last night because they didn't have any extra (which is alright because I wasn't taking orders, just bagging and desserts) Well, I only got to hear parts of conversations when they were talking. Well, they started talking about Coupons and the Manager was out of her office (refilling her Soda, of course) and she said "I didn't know we had BOGO coupons" Well, in Day Shift, we had a lady come through Drive-Thru with coupons and we were told Coupons are only valid in Dining Room. Well, hearing HALF of the conversation and especially when the manager says "I didn't know we had BOGO coupons" I figured I'd be helpful and I said "Earlier we were told that coupons only work in Dining Room only" Well, the manager turned towards me and completely snapped and said "I've been here for a few years and I know that they are only allowed in dining room so your input wasn't really needed, was it?" Oh man. I had to bite my tongue at that.

I wouldn't be as mad if I would've been asked and if Night Shift wasn't full of completely...jerks.

Also, during Day Shift, we joke around, laugh, pick on each other and the atmosphere is just amazing. Everyone gets their work done and we laugh about different things while doing it. Night Shift, if you even think about laughing you're getting yelled at. It's so tense in there. I'm sure there's more humor in a morgue than Night Shift.

I'm venting this all out because it's bothering me a lot. I'm going to talk to my Day Shift Drive-Thru Leader later on today (can't text her until after 5 [her rule]) and tell her about this stuff to see what can be done, if anything.

I'm not looking for any "that's life for you-just suck it up" things, I know this is life and I know life isn't always fair. I'm not wanting special treatments or anything, but I just needed to get it off my chest.

23548975235.3 cookies for anyone who reads/comments this
