Dwarf Hamster..

Does anyone know a lot about Dwarf Hamsters? I have a question... my hamster is scaring me. Just today he started acting funny, like, he is breathing kind of fast and then it gets slower... it looks exactly like a heart beat at different paces: heavy and fast, or heavy and slow. He also has been laying around more than he usually does.

*Another question... how warm are they supposed to feel? He isn't freezing but he doesn't feel "warm", really.

Maybe your hamster is stressed out. In that case leave it alone for a while. (1-3 days) is he wheezing or having difficulty breathing ?

Yeah.. I think that was the case. I left him be for a while and now he is up doing his tricks and running around again (:

My brother had a dwarf hamster, they are actually quite funny to watch. He did that for the first couple of days being home, but wouldn't you be scared if you moved all of a sudden? My only recommendation is to not get a second one. They actually live quite happily on their own.

Yeah... he seemed pretty stressed. That's actually what the petco people told me... h enjoys being alone. (:

Yes, my brother found that out the hard way. RIP Smokey... Gimli (Yes he named it after the dwarf from Lord of the Rings. My mom and I wanted Cartman from a different show because he was just a big chubby hamster) Anywho... Gimli was an active thing. He used to roam around the house in a ball.

Odd, I just heard a story about dwarf hamsters. One of our family friends was talking about when they wanted to get 2 dwarf hamsters for their kids. Well, the pet store they went to had 6, and the kids didn't want to break up the little "family" and talked them into buying all 6. Not even a month later, he said that they had over 70 dwarf hamsters. :shock:

yeah i can believe it females are in heat approximately every four nights at around 8/9pm but it depends on the hamsters breed for how long they carry the kits for
