Acne

edited July 2011 in General Discussion
Well, I, of course have acne... It's not like BAD.... its just kinda there... Its more like a mild case of it, and its been like that for a few years.

My mom has had me loaded on medicine... at first it was fine... but eventually it has drove me insane all the stupid things they bring me for.
So, I've quite using it all together.. (my mom doesn't know of this though, and my dad covers for me about it. But my mom goes insane if I miss just one day of it..)

I was just wondering if anyone knew any simple "home" rememdies to cure acne.

Ive heard of things like toothpaste and baking soda.......
any help would make me greatful!

 • I dont know about home cures, but my sisters doctor told her that going to bed with your hair wet can help cause it. So dry it before you go to bed xD Then just wash your face every night with atleast water
 • Try just simple soap and water, a mild soap though. Also, Clearisil face wash works REALLY good. Usually after I wash my face, I dab on some witch hazel. It will dry up any acne because it's an astringent(sp?). Good luck =)

 • I use the tooth paste method. It dries the little suckers out over night. Be careful tho. Don't put too much cause otherwise it'll dry out the skin around it too. Only put it on problem ones. The rest just use soap and water. Achne I think is caused a lot by stress. So be happy! Lol ^^
 • I heard making a paste with aspirin heals them pretty quick.

Although my friend had really bad acne and so did her brother they both used Proactive daily and it clears it right up. <a href="http://www.proactiv.com/"; target="_blank" class="bb-url">http://www.proactiv.com/;
 • Pride- Yea, I haven't done that in awile since I have a blow dryer finally, but I'll make sure my hair is always dry

Rocky - I used to use dove soap, and it was working. But mt mom stopped buying it and put me on a load of medicines

Bob cat- I actually did that last night, but I did wash it off after like five minutes, because my dad wasn't to sure about it. After that, I did do some research. And later that night I tried table salt which is suppose to work.

Kitt- That's a new one, but I doubt that my mom will allow me to do that. (:P) I've tried proactive, but iit made me break out worst.

I've heard it's supposed to make you break out worse for 2 weeks, to get all the toxins out, then it keeps your skin clear.

 • I was on it for about 3 months, but it just got worst and worst.

 • Basically anything that keeps the acne dry is supposed to help. Avoid soaps with moisturizers in them as they make the skin oily. There are pads, like makeup pads, that you can use to keep your face clear of oils throughout the day. Avoid touching your face as the dirt and natural oil on your hands can and will make it worse. Try using a clean facecloth or disposable napkin to wash your face instead of your hands.

I've personally used Oxypads, they have some for deep cleaning and sensitive skin. I used them in combination with SpectroJel. The oxypads are high in alcohol and tended to really dry out my skin, so after using them I washed my face again with the SpectroJel which helped moisturize (Without the oils of a moisturizer) to help hydrate my skin. Use warm/hot water before using the Oxipads as it helps open pores to get a really deep clean. Rinse with cold water after the SpectroJel as it closes pores and helps keep dirt from getting in. Once a week I would use an exfoliating face mask, usually on Sundays before bed, and my acne cleared up.

Here are the sites for both products I used:
<a href="http://www.oxycanada.com/en/pages/index2.html"; target="_blank" class="bb-url">http://www.oxycanada.com/en/pages/index2.html; (I don't know if you can get them in the US)
<a href="http://www.spectroskincare.com/"; target="_blank" class="bb-url">http://www.spectroskincare.com/; (Though SpectroJel also makes the pads same as Oxy, so if you can't get OxyPads I'm sure replacing them with these would be the same.)
 • Make sure all your makeup is washed off at night, deep clean.

Keep your hands off your face during the day, same with your hair, bangs are the worst.

Use makeup with little oil, if you do.
Then use hot water and a cloth and put it on your face, which will open up your pores to deep clean.
Wash with a cleanser at nighttime, something with Salicylic Acid (I use the St Ives cleanser blemish fighting). I wash once and then wash again, and leave the cleanser on about 10 mins (so the acid can dry up the pimples)

Then wash off, I dont use toner or anything, I dont see a differance. I wet my face with cold water to close my pores so nothing can get in them, and then I use a oil free moisterizer (moistral (sp?) is what I use) Do not skip this step, dry skin actually can pick up just as much impuritys and make acne as oily skin.

Only wash your face one time during the day, its not nessasary more then once a day. If you can go without anything n your face for a while do it, even for a day it lets your face breathe.

Once a week I use a mask (st Ives scrub blemish fighting, or using a salt scrub), and I leave it on for about 20 mins. The salt scrub is just sea salt (no frangrance, just the stuff you put in your bath), mixed with a bit of water and put it on.

Also I know it sounds bad, but you know that stuff you put on bug bites to stop itching? I put it on my pimples to dry them out (better then toothpaste, and yes it does hurt) at night, then before I do my makeup I put osonal on them. Either that or my mom has a perscription for a infection cream called bactroban and it works well.

need more ideas, pm me ;)

ps. that advil mask, when you use it alot and over time it actually ruins your skin (I had a artical on that but cant find the link right now, but it has something to do with the eleasticness of your skin).
 • Thank you very much Lilly!
This info will be a great help!

I don't wear make up hardly at all.... I'm not that good at it anyway..
But on the occasional time I do, I will make sure all of it is removed from my face.

I have some equate face wash and astrigen pads that I normally use too.
I always use to just do hot water, but over the past 2 weeks I've started using cold water at the end, and I've noticed it has helped alot.
My hair is normally in a pony tail or pulled back in some way.
As for salt, I've read that table salt also helps, once its mixxed with water.

The advil is not supposed to be used as a mask, more for just a couple of problem spots.
 • well maybe used for problem spot it might be okay, just a all over mask as I have hear domse people use isnt good.

I havent ever tired table salt, so I dont know how well that would work, let me know haha

but pm me if you have any questions or anything

I am going to school for this and want to be a makeup artist as well as work in a spa type setting.
 • Basically the salt is supposed to help dry out the skin. They use salt to preserve meats, as in take out the moisture. You can use salt to dry out a canker inside your mouth. It also helps fight infection.

Anyways, if you have any questions let me know.
 • Kitt -

At my house, I'm lucky enough to finally have my own bathroom for once in my life, So I have a good supply of towels I know my bro and sis haven't messed with. I've used oxy pads before, they seem to help alot, I need to get some more soon. I just remembered I use to use a baking soda mix, It seemed to be one of the best things that worked. I'll have to talk my mom into getting me some more.

I just went and cleaned up my face for the night. Does anyone know if Alcohol pads work? My friend gave me some to use.. I wasn't too sure about it.
As far as keeping my hair out of my face.. I do that alot, I have a whole bunch of bands and clips and all of that to keep it out of my face, but since I'm not the best at hair styling either,I tend to run out of ideas..lolzz

:) That's what I had read when I was looking things up.... That's what we use when we get the cankers inside our mouth. It hurts, but it helps.
I will message you too! xD :P

Lilly- I've only done the salt once so far... so I'm not to sure about it, but I'll message you if it works. And I will message if I have anymore questions.

Thank you to the both of you :)
This info should help alot.
