Neglected Dogs

edited July 2011 in Vent
Most of you know the situation with my aunt. Well I just found out something about her.
I went up to her house with my grandma to get some medicine for the puppies and I wanted to see her dog Roxie's 12 puppies. I was in for a shock. They were in a tiny pen with hardly any shade. There was poo everywhere and their water bowl was completely dry. My grandma and I put an extension part on their pen, gave them water and cleaned out the poo. Then we decided we better check on the other dogs. Bella (the one who attacks
my dog) was in a bigger pen but you couldn't even seen the ground because there was so much poo. Now, I hate this dog with all my heart but I feel so bad for her. In the other pen, was Ella the 2 year old husky and seven 5 month old puppies. The smell was so bad I could tell their pen hadn't been cleaned in several days. Their water bowl was covered in an inch of mud and slime and they had absolutely no food. Also i just thought I'd add that when my dad got home from work, my aunt's three dogs (Roxie, Gracie and Nala) were standing in the middle of the road. For these dogs, it's either get hit by cars or stand in there own poo! My aunt refuses to send some of her dogs to another foster home because she "doesn't want them to get hurt by the other dogs"! Let me just tell you, they're hurting a lot worse at her house. Just needed to get this off my chest. I already told my mom and she has been talking to her sister about sending some of the mama dogs to other foster homes.

 • Take pictures, and send them to the people/organization she fosters for. if they care about the dogs, they'll reclaim them. Those kind of conditions can lead to serious disease or death, and if that's how your aunt treats her animals then she really shouldn't have any. Also, from that post, I count 24 dogs - 19 puppies and 5 adult dogs? That just seems like a bit high of a number for any one person to take care of. The way it sounds, both the dogs and your aunt would be better off with all of or at least most of those dogs in different homes.

 • Yes at the moment she has 18 puppies and 4 adult dogs (all fosters but still I think that's too many considering she doesn't have room for them all) and 3 dogs that actually belong to her. I foster dogs too but right now we have 12 fosters but our pen is much bigger than hers for a litter of 7 puppies and the small pens, only two dogs are in. We also clean our pens every day and make sure they have food on the days we dont have time to clean them.

 • that sounds horriable!! Ovousely she can't take care of that many dogs!! I actuallt went to get a puppy i rescued today and she had 38 dogs mostly border collies, but the place was beautifuly kept with a very large yard for them to run in! She really should give her dpgs to other fosters :(

 • We have two 10x10 chainlink pens on a concrete slab, a really big pen (not sure what the actual measurements are) and a slightly smaller pen that we keep our dogs in at my house. At the moment, we are keeping seven 6 pound puppies in one of the chainlink pens. These are our quarantine pens. We've just given these pups a shot so they have to stay in the "sick pen" til their 2nd shot. If they are still healthy then, depending on how big they are, they go in one of the two big pens. Our other dogs right now are: Selena the Rat Terrier/Dachsund (in the other chainlink fence) and the Terrier siblings, Ashton and Ashlyn in the biggest pen. We also have Topaz but he seems to be able to get out of every pen we have but he doesn't run off. He stays with you when you're outside and sleeps on the porch when you aren't. I will make a thread with pics of all my fosters today :D

 • Has anything happened to change the situation, or is she still keeping all those dogs in the same conditions?
