Psychological Kindness/Emotion-based Project

edited May 2011 in Vent
Well, that was the topic I chose. xD I ended up putting too much into this project.
Basically, the idea is to associate and interact with several people of our different school groups,
genders, friends, acquaintances, personalities. It's working out really well so far in terms of
bonding with teachers and an overall positive report, as expected. ;P

Except, I decided to befriend this one girl that's "off" and really, she has no friends because of that,
and everyone's disgustingly mean to her. So she doesn't get it, and well, I'm actually very weired out by
her. >___> She follows me and my boy around and I get really annoyed when she bothers him. xD All in all,
my whole plan was to maybe work out a group of friends for her. Sometimes she opens up and even though
I barely understand what she's saying, I can tell she's definitely feeling some kind of angst.

Anyway, today, I decided to talk to her and walk her to the park/bus stop. This was my first day trying to
get my project working, and I didn't expect everyone who I passed by with that girl to stop and stare. >__>
That's supposed to happen in the movies only. .__. Whenever we walked past people, so many people would tease her
and laugh at her, and one group even called her over and stomped in her direction to shout "YOU SCARED? AHAHA"
so I forced myself to call her over, and yes, people stared. >___> So asides from committing my social suicide,
she told me at the end of the day, "lol, I was just nice enough to go with you =]"

PROUD OF ME?! I DIDN'T FLIP OUT. D<

Anyone have any suggestions in handling this? XD Or towards the project itself? xDD

 • I hate when people get picked on like that it really grinds my gears  . But I think she is so excited to have someone to talk to and have a "real" friend that she doesn't know how to act. I have two girls in my class that acts somewhat like that. They are both very quiet and look down when they talk to you. And when they do speak you have to really listen or you won't hear what there saying. It is sometimes difficult with people without a lot of friends they almost seem kinda weird. I think time and patience will work in this situation.

 • The hard part in all of this is that she's not weird or anything, but
she has a learning disability, so that's why everyone's so mean to her.
And she doesn't even know that they're laughing at her and making fun of her.

I'm just not sure if I'm ready for the social suicide, so I'm conflicted with going through
with this or killing my rep. xD
I know the more obvious answer, but it's so hard. • Why worry about your social appearence with her? I always stood up for those kinds of kids when people were mean to them. Even though she doesn't understand, its still wrong for them to treat her that way. Ignore everyone else.

 • I always thought I'd be willing to just stand up for someone, and I never thought it'd be this bad. xD
I didn't actually expect it to be like the movies where I'd have people confronting me about it,
stopping & staring, or actually moving away from our direction. xD
I never imagined it'd be so hard. =w=
