Now, normally I'm extremely excited to go to a show both to participate and take oodles upon oodles of pictures..But I'm extremely nervous about this one coming up on saturday.
I'm one of the best riders at my barn (and probably in my county, but I don't want to sound egotistical...), along with my friend Drew and the barn owner. But, Dude is lame, and I shall not be taking him.
I love running in shows, and I don't have issues with some of the hot/gate sour horses that end up in the gaming industry. But alas, I've seen how Lucky acts, and I'm not sure how well I'll handle her at this show. She's more than hot, and she's an avid kicker. I, personally, wouldn't take her kicking is in check and not every single entry; but, she is not my horse. If I decide to lease her, then I'll be working her ass off every time she kicks.
But anyway, my main concerns are things I normally wouldn't be worried about with any of the other horses (Poco, Toby, Dude, Tunie, etc).

Kicking.
--If she ends up kicking someone and sending them to the hospital or killing someone, I'm out of luck and will probably get sued out of my house, car, etc. I don't want that to happen.
I mean, it hasn't happened yet, but it's a big possibility/risk. I barely have the money just to lease a horse for the show season and go to a few shows, let alone be sued for riding a psychotic horse that isn't even mine. ;;
--Not to mention that I'm not fond of being thrown towards the front of the saddle constantly. ;;
--No one pays attention to ribbons in a horse's tail either. I mean..when you see a semi on the road with red tags on it, you stay the hell away from it, correct? What's so different with a thousand pound animal with one on their tail..?
No one wants to listen when you repeatedly tell them that you're on a kicker either. Do people have absolutely no self preservation these days!?
Running.
--I've only done walk/trot on her on a trail. I've never cantered her, let alone ran her!
Patterns.
--I've never taken her and done anything with her other than trail riding. Game patterns are a whole lot faster than on a trail. o.e Drew's shown her and told me most of what I would be worrying about..but I want the first hand experience, ya know? He's told me she basically does the barrel pattern herself (and wins), and I shouldn't have any issues keeping her off the barrels as long as I take her to the pocket right..She supposedly does poles herself as well as long as I get her pockets right and neck rein her through the pattern. This would be great, right? But, I haven't ran poles..ever. I've trotted them twice.
And keyhole I should be fine on..she has amazing rollbacks, but if I don't cue her at the right time, she doesn't go into the box or she blows right through it..
Mounting.
--I have to dismount as soon as my run is over and walk her out.
If I don't, then she's a horrible pain to get back into the gate for my next run. I have some issues mounting horses anything over 14.2hands; my shoulders are basically down the drain and if I don't mount perfectly, I yank my shoulder out.
I'm not sure if she stands still for mounting either, I've never paid attention. *flops*

Overall, I'm hoping that I'll be able to calm her down a bit and do all the patterns at least correct, even if they're slow. xD
So..anyone have any words to help me out? lol I'll probably be perfectly fine and maybe even get a ribbon or two, but it's not how the reaction part of my brain is making it out. xD
