Molly [turning eleven this month]

=( All I can think about lately is how my Pit Bull/Rhodesian Ridgeback dog is turning eleven this month. I'm not sure of the exact date, but somewhere around mid or late May she is. It saddens me to think that the two breeds she's mixed with are only supposed to live approx. 10-12 years.

Obviously she could be one of those dogs that live years after their expectancy (and she hasn't slowed down that much this past year, she's always gonna be my big puppy) so I shouldn't worry too much but I still can't help thinking about it. I guess I should just take advantage of the time I have with her now...

On a positive note, I've heard that mixed breed dogs tend to live longer than purebreds.

I've heard that too. Because they don't get all of the health problems a majority of the time & other reasons. Which is why I'm glad she's mixed, the only problem she's ever had was a bad hip and she's doing so well with it now.

My dog, also named Molly, is turning 8 this year. =( The best thing to do is not to worry. Enjoy the time and don't spend it dwelling on how long you have left!

iluvdogs111: It's hard not to think about it, but it's no problem for me to enjoy the time I have with her!

This weekend I'm planning on giving her a bath (oh gosh, wish me luck), getting her toe nails clipped, and asking my parents if she can start spending more time inside (she's always been outdoors more than in, she's sort of not adapted to indoors). =D Good thing is, I think she'll be with me for quite a few more years. She's refusing to slow down an doesn't show any aging at all except some white flecks all over her muzzle/face.
