Dog Treats

I enjoy making dog treats for my dogs, and figured I'd post a couple of recipes so you can make them too, if you'd like to. They are really easy, inexpensive recipes, and I can almost guarantee that your pup will love them!

PEANUT BUTTER BASSET BISCUITS

4 cups whole wheat flour
2 cups oatmeal
3/4 cup Peanut Butter (Chunky or Creamy)
2 1/2 cups hot water

Mix all ingredients, adding more flour if dough is too sticky. Knead well. Roll out to 1/4" and cut into shapes with cookie cutter. Bake on greased cookie sheet at 350 degrees for 40 minutes. Turn off heat and let cool in oven overnight.

(This is Dusty's favorite, he's give it 4 paws up)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This next one I haven't made yet, so if you do end up making it, tell me how it comes out please.
HOMEMADE FROSTY PAWS
32 oz. vanilla yogurt
1 mashed banana or one large jar of baby fruit
2 Tblsp. peanut butter
2 Tblsp. honey
Blend all together and freeze in either 3 oz. paper cups or ice cube trays. Microwave just a few seconds before serving.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I have one more super simple recipe for "Banana Snaps", I just have to find the it, it's buried somewhere in a cookbook,lol.

Cut into 3 inch or 1 1/2 inch squares.

All my other dogs like these too. Bully wont lay a paw on these though, he just wants his pound of raw meat and bone and he's good. I swear he's a lion sometimes! xD
 • =D I'll add that to the rest of my recipes!

Aw, gee I can tell your dogs aren't spoiled at all! lol

 • lol..spoiled is undermining it. Heck, I'd be like one of those blonde chicks that carries her chihuahua around in her purse and makes it wear clothes if I could, to bad my dogs weigh a hundred pounds more then me and would eat the clothes in a matter of seconds. *sigh*. I can't always get what I want though.... xD

(i'm JK by the way, people that do that to their dogs irritate me)
 • LOL Yep I can totally picture a Tosa sitting in a purse...

Yea I'm annoyed by the whole purse-dog fad. I do however, sometimes put jackets on my Boston Terrier mix, because he gets cold easily.

 • aww..cute. My room mate has a fox terrier that always sleeps with me under the blanket because he gets cold easily, I tried putting a T shirt on him and he ripped it a part. My dogs wont go near clothing..unless were talking about Laru, on her thread there's pics of her not only wearing my clothes but lying on my bed and watching TV. She loves all that girly stuff. The most I can put on Bully is his spiked collar and harness and sometimes a puzzle when we go to schutzhund events and the muzzle is required. Why am I rambling?? Here's another recipe!! : "Buddy Biscuits"
Ingredients:
1 cup whole wheat flour
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
3/4 cup nonfat dry milk powder
1/2 cup oats, rolled (raw) -- quick cooking
1/2 cup yellow cornmeal
1 teaspoon sugar
1/3 Cup Shortening
1 Egg
1/2 Cup water
1 Tablespoon Bouilon (chicken or beef)

Instructions:
Cut in 1/3 cup shortening until mix is coarse crumbs. Stir in 1 egg. Dissolve 1 tablespoon instant chicken or beef bouillon granules in 1/2 cup water. Stir liquid into flour mix with a fork. Form dough into a ball and knead on floured board for 5 minutes. Divide ball in half and roll each portion until 1/2 inch thick. Use a cookie cutter or shape biscuits. Put 6 on a plate and microwave at medium for 5 to 10 minutes or until firm and dry to touch. Turn biscuits over after 1/2 cooking time.

This is more for dogs with weak stomachs, or can be used as a normal training treat when training your dog, like a milk bone..but better xD
 • lol Yea I remember the pic of Laru that you're talking about, it's adorable. My Lab is the same way, the most he'll wear is his spiked collar as well. Oh please feel free to ramble! lol

Dang, we should get together and make a dog treat cookbook! lol
