Ahhh! Help.....pretty please?

edited April 2011 in Vent
I have a massive headache! I can't get rid of it, I've tried taking Ibuprofen, that didnt help at all.I've tried listening to really mellow music, didn't work, so then I just laid down and tried to rest....also didn't work. I have a pretty high pain tolerance, but I can't deal with this headache. So, does anybody have any ideas as to how to get rid of it?

  • I go in a dark room and sit on a chair and sleep. Try drinking Gatorade or Sprite that might help. And rub between your eyes softly, I heard its supposed to work. I sometimes get migraines and I can barely stand them so I do all of the above if possible. Sometimes I get them during school so I just try to ignore it then. But normally I try and do these things.

  • The majority of common headaches are caused by dehydration or stress. So drinking water and trying to relax will take care of most of them.

  • Yea, I'm pretty sure this one is from stress, I've been trying to relax, but it's not very easy. Thanks though

  • my headache pills have caffeine in them, depending on the type of headache you have it can help.

  • Really? Huh I would think caffeine would make it worse, I'll try it out though. Thank you!

Caffeine is a common ingredient in many prescription and over-the-counter headache medications (see list below). Caffeine additives make pain relievers 40% more effective in treating headaches. Caffeine also helps the body absorb headache drugs more quickly, bringing faster relief. By adding caffeine and, in turn, taking less medication, you can reduce the risk for potential side effects and possible drug addiction.

LOL, that's what I used to do.

I saw this program on TV about getting rid of head and tummy aches by pin pointing and rubbing certain pressure points found on your body. I use the pressure point (found on your wrist) a lot to get rid of tummy aches, and it actually works. You can try taking a pain reliever and then looking up online exactly what pressure point to use. I know it sounds a little far fetched, but hey, it works for me!
  • LOL Vamp, thats a fantabulous idea!

Oh yes I deffinately believe in doing that Lala. *heads to Google*

  • I know it's probably too late, but I get migranes every once in a while. When I got a migrane, not only do I have a massive headache, but I can't function right. I get dizzy and sometimes even mix up my words. The only way for me to get through a migrane is to sleep or at least rest in a dark room. Light, TV, etc, makes it worse. Once I thought a migrane was gone, watched TV for an hour and it came back.

I've heard if you take caffine right when you feel a migrane coming on, it can stop it.
Wow thats interesting. Yesterday I got a small migrane from sleeping on my neck wrong. But it was NO WHERE near the size of my normal ones. I usually have one like once a month, sometimes in school, but idk why but it seems to not be as bad if Im in school when I get it and just keep doing my work. I haven't/hadn't had a migrane since like 5-6 months ago till yesterday. :P My friend was in a car accident and she gets one or two every week and nothing can be done cause of a kink in her neck that can't be fixed.

Yes, the first time it happened I couldn't talk right. I wanted to tell my Dad I was dizzy, and I kept saying "I'm a little dentist." It was scary, because I knew what I wanted to say, but I couldn't say it right. It went away after a while and I went to the doctor, but it was still scary. That's why now when I get migranes I just go lay down until it passes. Thankfully, I've only had 3 in the past 2 years, but I don't want to jinx it.

Not to worry you, but that doesn't sound like a migraine symptom at all, things like that happen more often with strokes... If I were you I'd go see a neurologist right away. If you already saw one get a second opinion.

Well, I went to a doctor (my doctor was not open,) then I went to my regular doctor, then I went to a neurologist. Of those 3, none found anything irregular. Also, the chances it was a stroke would be very slim considering I was only 12 or 13 when it happened, and fairly healthy.

About 20% of migraineurs have migraine with aura. Individuals with migraine with aura occasionally or frequently experience neurologic symptoms prior to onset and/or during their headaches. These unusual symptoms may include (1) visual disturbances (bright flickering lights, colored zigzag lines, blurriness, or loss of vision), (2) sensory disturbances (numbness and/or tingling on one side of the body which often creeps slowly from the fingertips to the face), or (3) speech difficulties (difficulty finding words, mixing up words, not making sense). Individuals may experience only one aura symptom, two symptoms may occur concurrently, or multiple aura symptoms may progress sequentially. The auras are fully reversible (i.e., symptoms disappear and aren't permanent) and typically last anywhere from 5 to 60 minutes. Occasionally, people can experience aura symptoms without having a subsequent headache, this is known as typical migraine aura without headache.

Some of these symptoms do describe me, I get blurred vision 10 minutes before starting a migraine and occasionaly experience numbness in my fingers or mouth.

  • If you've seen a neurologist and they did scans to rule out strokes or a brain tumor then it should be fine. My view on things tends toward better safe than sorry though lol. My mother had those same type of symptoms, and it turned out she was having mini strokes, which have since stopped.
To be honest I'm not sure if they did tests to rule out strokes. (They did do other tests) However that happened 2 years ago and I haven't noticed anything irregular since. Plus, I was very aware of what was happening. I knew exactly what I wanted to say, I just couldn't form the words correctly. Usually if you have a stroke you're not very aware of what's happening or what you're saying. Thanks for being concerned, but I'm honestly not worried. Trust me, I worry about a lot, and if this had happened more than once I would be worried, but it's over with now and it hasn't really effected me.

  • That stinks ): I get headaches every couple weeks or so and what I do is usually just sit in a dark room with some juice or something and drink it really slowly, but make sure your drink isn't really cold (I have found out that makes it worse :/) And try to fall asleep... make sure there isn't any noise and don't put much on your mind, kind of just clear it. When you wake up, if you fell asleep it will probably be gone and if it is get up slowly because you will feel light-headed. Try not to watch t.v or use the computer for a little while because that will make your headache come back and don't eat anything cold like ice cream but salad might actually help (well, it does for me) and just don't run around for a while. I hope I could help! (:
