I've been playing the alto sax for about 3 years now. For a long time we were renting it from a company, but recently it was paid off and now belongs to me! Three years ago, it was brand new, the mouth piece, the neck, the body, everything was in plastic wrap. At first, I was terrible at playing, I was the worst in the class. Now that I've finally gotten the hang of it, the saxophone needs a good deal of work done. The mouth piece pretty much has dried spit ground into it, I squished the ligature at one point. Not to mention it is chipped (Oops). The neck doesn't need much work done.. not much can go wrong with it. The body, oh my, the body. If you look into the bell of the saxophone, you can see dried up rivers of spit, theres mold growing, all that good stuff. I think the pads need to be replaced, too. All of this extra work needs to be done on it, and my mom just spent 2,500 to buy it. I was wondering if any of you knew how much a professional cleaning would cost. Then, how much it is to replace pads.
