Toby :c

I come home today, you know, waiting for my dog, since he's my little baby and greets me everday with his cute little smile thing, and he doesn't...

So, I go into the front yard, and he finally comes, running and smiling, but once he gets on his hind legs to jump on me (He's a chihuahua/min pin. He can do that x.x) he yelps. I wait a few hours, thinking maybe he got bit or something. So then I come into the kitchen where all the dogs are kept, and he's lying on his bed, looking severely depressed. I pat him on the head, thinking he would cheer up, but he doesn't. So, I give him a treat. And want to guess what he does? He has a hard time swallowing. He sat there chewing until it was just mush, and still could barely swallow it.

He's on my lap now, asleep. He's still got something wrong with him though :/. All I know so far is that he can't swallow, and his rump hurts. Not very helpful... Maybe a scorpian or snake I'm thinking, but we've never had any of them around :/ I'm going to quarentine him from the other dogs for a while, until I can tell whats wrong with him...

Anyone have idea of what it could be? Should I bring him to the vet? Ugh, I wish he just felt better...

 • I know when my Chihuahua is hurting we usually take her straight to the vet to get her checked before it can get worse =)

The only time that I can remember her hurting hurting is when she broke her hind leg jumping out of a chair and her nail getting caught. it snapped herback leg in half and we had to rush her to the vets and about two months later it was fully healed and she was back to running around. although I still seem to favor that leg when i play with her or hold her. i know its better but in my mind i still remember the way she yelped and screamed when her leg broke and it kills me to think about it.

If i were you, i'd take your chi to the vet and have everything checked out =) It could be nothing but ya never know
 • Thanks Garnet c:

That somewhat happened to my pug Felix... my brother was petting him, and his nail got caught in his shirt, then Felix went to jump up on a couch, and dislocated his hip :c. Sadly, we didn't have $300 dollars for the opperation, so my dad had him put down :c

Honestly though, I don't think people with small kids should have small dogs... I live with my mom.. it's just me her and my stepdad. We all know how to handle a small dog, and none of us are too rough with them...

Your poor chi :c that's part of the reason I hate having them :/ I need a big dog. I have one, but he's about eight hours away lol. I know what you mean though :/ Toby had gotten his vaccines once, and he had an allergic reaction... Man! He's not a healthy dog! Lol.

 • Yea. I think Chi's are naturally aggressive towards young kids. Mine hated my niece and nephew. She can handle my nephew now cause hes gotten older but my niece she still detests a lot of the time. We have to watch her when they are over staying the weekend.

We DEFINITELY make sure to keep her nails trimmed all the time so that this can't happen again! I'm sure Toby will be okay :) Ill keep my fingers crossed for you!! :)
 • Oh, mine was abused, so he hates pretty much everyone xD He's bitten old women, to baby boys. We're lucky the people he's bitten are special handlers, though... I always try to take the time to bring him to pet stores and parks, to get him used to people... He's in 4H for that, too.

My dogs are on concrete a lot, so their nails prettu much stay trim, whether we do it or not...

Thank you! I don't know how he's feeling... he just woke up now, and he yelped when he tried to get up... He's somewhat wheezing, but he's always done that... Ugh I wish he could talk so he could tell me what happened! Lol...

 • Aww I'm sorry coconut. My dog was bitten by an Arizona Bark scorpion once, but the vet said she could fight it off herself since she weighed 213 pounds. I don't know what to say about your little woof woof though...I would suggest vet. Some scorpion stings can be lethal to small dogs.
 • I'd suggest taking him to the vet in the morning. I'm not quite sure what time it is where you are, but it's 10PM here. If things seem worse in the morning (not eating/drinking, moving, usual behavior, etc) that's when I'd take him. Best thing to do is keep him comfortable with plenty of fluids available. I hope he does well and if any problems do exist, that they're treatable. But it's important you take care of yourself too. A dog can sense when something's wrong with the owner and will make him worried about you. Keep calm, love your dog, and hope for the best <3

 • See the thing is Lala, I'm not even really sure what it is...

I'm going to bring him to the vet tomorrow, if he's still acting like this. Only reasoning is, I don't have lots of money, so if it's really nothing, we would have to still pay a big vet bill, and probably couldn't afford it.

I'm going to sleep with him, as always. If he's worse in the morning, I'm not going to go to school. :/

 • Thanks Baby, that's actually exactly what I'm going to do

I'm not sure if the liquids/ food will be much help though :/ I'll try to give him a can of soft food, and see how he digests it. What I'm noticing a lot of right now, is behavorial changes. He's normally super happy when I'm around, but, as stupid as it may sound, his eyes are even duller. And he's somewhat shaking. Worse part is, he's only 2, MAYBE 3. And that's a big maybe...

 • Can't you give him baby aspirin? I heard that helps...
 • Like the others, I'd suggest the vet.. Whatever the bill is, I'd rather find out it is nothing than to not go and after the dog dies, discover it was something that could have been helped.

 • Well a dog can live without food for a while. Liquids are most important. Like with us. Canned food sounds good though. Just saying though, last thing he needs is dehydration ontop of all of that. And if swallowing more solid objects was proving to be fairly difficult, liquids wouldn't be as hard. Ya know? But I totally understand you with the money aspect. We have the same issues. Depending on what's available in the area (reasonable driving distance) and if you haven't already, do research on prices if it's available online.

 • Lala I don't have any but I'm not sure if it would be ok for him... He's so tiny, I would probably give him too much :/

Bama I know what you mean, but he seems a bit better now... I tried to get him to drink but he won't have any of it. It's probably too late now anyways... I'm just going to play it by ear amd see if it's any worse in the morning... He's being somewhat active now, so things seem better already.

Baby I put him in the kitchen where all food and water is, but he won't even look at any of it... The only problem with looking up prices is that I don't know what it is... I'm going to ask my friend now if she knows what it is...

 • You mean what price you're looking for? Office visit fees. If that's expensive, it's safe to assume other following services will be as well.

 • Ahhh.... Thank you. I'll do that soon, I just need to do some things first... It seems as if he's feeling better now... He still yelps and stuff but he's more active. I finally got him to eat soft food... I just had to isolate him... He's getting annoyed at me for trying to gibe him water though

 • Ah, no I didn't lol. The only reason I had to seperate him was because I have four others, and they would start a fight if they saw just him eating yummy soft food... With the water, I just put some on his nose and had some cupped in my hand to offer some to him... he didn't like it though, lol.

He finally finished the food... once he figured if he licked it and got little at a time he could eat it, he chowed it down... well as much as he could anyway, lol.

For now, I'm going to let him rest. I'm sure he's sick of my face by now, lol.

 • Nah, I'm sure he knows you care. But it's still good to give him some space. Just an fyi though, I don't own any dogs so none of this info is like professional or anything. Don't quote me on it ;D But I give advice for some pretty common knowledge type of stuff and can relate basic things to other animals anyways. That and I love shows on animal planet ^_^ Though I rarely get to watch them, just when I go to someone's house who has cable. But yeah. I've helped RNRQ out with training/behavioral tips with her new pupper even. Either way, I'm always happy to lend a hand with supportive information.

 • Yeah, he's a very independant dog, too, so I bet he appreciates it xD

Oh, I know what you mean. I do that all the time with horses. I go to clinics and watch shows, much like that. Then in summer I'm lucky enough to go and see my own c:

If you ever need someone with cable, I'm always here LOL. No, but, thank you anyways. As you may have read... elsewhere... I am now in love with you xD
