Discussion Group Anyone?

Want to start a group thats designed for horses and riders? we can atleast talk about horses here... xD So what breeds and everything are your horses/the horses you ride? I ride mostly Quarter Horses and Paints,ETC and I ride Western and do Barrel Racing and Pole Bending and might start playing around with the cattle for cutting and of course I already herd them xD and uh also might try roping.

My main ride is my solid paint Tawny. Weve done Drill (2nd place in state and 1st in disctrict last year) Rodeo Queens Contests (current queen for my county) Team Penning, Horsemanship and Halter. And this year were doing BOTH precision AND speed drill, team penning, horsemanship, barrels, poles, and were thinking of doing Team Roping with my friend.

We do it all during the summer. xD So i can usually find the time. And whats name? My horse?

Yeah your main horse xD yeah but I live a half hour from Ben so I dont get over there as much as I like

But now my friend Viki has her horse a few miles up the road from me so I may be able to ride him and also my brothers friend has a horse he doesnt ride anymore that Im gonna get to ride

Her show name is Miss Dual Comanche out of Comanche's Best Try by Painted Dually. We call her Tawny

I miss riding. I decided I wasn't at the right barn...so I stopped. I dunno, I think it's time to move in a different direction, but it was fun when I did ride. I had a choice between western and english, I decided on english. It's not that I like all the fancy stuff and everything, I just wanted to do something different. I rode all kinds of horses, a lot of quarter horses I believe. My favorite was this beautiful gelding named Red. He glowed in the sun, literally, so pretty. He was amazing, even though he tried to bite me everytime I tacked him up, and stepped on me. When you cantered on him it was so smooth....like you were riding a rocking horse.

Red sounds great! Did you do jumping? I really want to learn without making a fool of myself with my Western Riding friends xD

 Red sounds great! Did you do jumping? I really want to learn without making a fool of myself with my Western Riding friends xD

Only basic stuff like going over cross rails. Never rode a good jumping horse. It was kinda fun though, almost like flying. If I do start riding again, I think I might try western. It looks fun.

A cutting farm 4 hours away from my house. My brother trained horses for her.

Only basic stuff like going over cross rails. Never rode a good jumping horse. It was kinda fun though, almost like flying. If I do start riding again, I think I might try western. It looks fun.

Believe me its GREAT! You wont have any problems of not having fun in a Western saddle xD

Yeah. I rode in a western saddle at my old barn, but basically did english riding. :roll: I guess it's harder to fall out so they put the beginners in western saddles? It's not as comfy as english, but it sounds like a lot of fun.

Lol. What do you think youll do in a Western saddle if you do ride again? Why would they put you in a Western saddle if you were going to learn English?!?!?! They are really weird I find XD

Because...they always started new riders off in western saddles because they are harder to fall out of and people can just grab onto the horn if they are scared....but they still taught enlgish stuff like posting and all that....yes, they weren't the best barn in my opinion. This is how they taught me to canter: Person riding on horse beside me: OK, trot Me: *trots* person: now kick him!!!! and go!! me: um ok *canters for 3 strides* person: stop him! stop him! :roll:

yup, same for BD lol. I normally use my knees/heels do direct her cause shes a cattle horse and its more fun xD

I neck rein with Tawny. If im wanting her to two track or side pass then ill use my legs and i use my legs for barrels. But besides that she can usually sense the shift in my weight and follow that.

I know! Basically there we were taught to use a crop right away, not even squeeze or smooch. It was just, ok kick him and if he doesn't go fast enough hit him. I hated that, but finally I switched barns and we never used crops unless they needed it. Not one rider there used a crop regularly, they could control the horses without them. But when I did need to kick, I could never kick hard enough to get the horse going, they probably could barely even feel my kick....I'm weak.

Tawny HATES whips. I was MADE to use one on her once and her strides went choppy because she was waiting for me to hit her with it. She was trained as a barrel horse and was pretty much beat with one and after that ride i REFUSED to use one on her ever again.

Yes, I did not like them, the riders at the barn hit the horse for no reason. And one time we couldn't find enough crops, so this instructor, who was just an inexperienced teenager went "I can be the crop!" and she ran around smacking all the horse while we were riding! Plus they overworked the horses. At my recent barn, he horses were almost always turned out after a lesson. There, they were just put back in their stalls, not even brushed! :x And they had this one sweet old horse that I learned to canter on. I heard after I left the barn that he died ON THE TRACK! of old age....they couldn't even give him the last few months of his life to rest. :roll:

yeah, Im working on Babydoll to neck rein but shes not my horse so I cant always go over there xD

yeah I hate when people use a whip unnecessarily, if they would learn to ride right they wouldnt even need one in their hand.

I know, my friend said when she used to right at a different barn she competed against them. One of their horses was so skinny and poorly groomed it got taken out of the competition!

aww! thats like a girl i know, my friend was competing against her and she didnt take care of her 30 yr old horse and she whipped it with a lead rope right in front of the judges cause she wasnt getting the horse to do what she wanted to. She says she got 1st but she got 15th out of 15 lol

Wow...I hate that. People should respect the animals, when people get mad they just do whatever hey can to get their horses t behave and it just turns out badly.
