One of my best friend breeds golden doodles. I hate it that her family breeds them, because to be honest, they are not serious breeders at all. It seems like my friend always has problems with her dogs and never can see the real problem. I really love her, we've been close for years, she's extremly nice and sweet, but her family isn't very.....knowledgable when it comes to dogs.

The first dog was a little dog, can't remember the exact breed. It attacked my mom's old lab for no reason and she had to get stiches. They gave her away.

The next, I believe was a Lhasa Apso. It bit her little brother multiple times and drew blood from her friend once. They sold him.

Now, they have a Golden Retriever and one of her puppies, a Golden Doodle. There Golden used to be really sweet but lately she's been growling at people. My friend is upset, saying they've had bad luck with all their dogs, but I don't think it has anything to do with luck.

They got the golden when she was 6 weeks old. My friend said it was because she was from out of town and they were already in the area. It would be understandable if the pup was 7 or 7 and a half weeks, but 6 weeks is a little young. They also wanted to get a very timid dog because they heard that was good. I knew from the beginning it wasn't because the dog they got wasn't timid in a calm, submissive way, it was timid in a shy, suspisious way.

If that wasn't enough, they bred her. She didn't seem to like being a mother. They kept one of the pups, she's adorable, friendly, entergetic-but they pay more attention to her then the mother. Now I feel like the golden's aggression is just because she's grumpy.

My friend loves dogs, but she doesn't know what they're doing wrong. They keep their dogs in the kitchen or outside all the time because they are afraid of dog hair on their carpets. They also have no feeding schedule for them. We feed our dogs at 7am and 5pm. They often feed their dogs at 10am and 11pm because they're busy or they forget.

Don't get me started on the breeding. They charge an outragous amount of money for the puppies, but they all sold extremly quickly. They were very lucky to have a healthy mom, 9 healthy pups, and a lot of buyers. Thankfully, they did keep their puppies for the full 8 weeks. My friend's mom was asking me questions on what to feed the pups! They did not do a lot of research.

They bred their dog again, but it didn't work. They will breed her again over the summer and will probably continue to breed her. They will probably even breed her puppy when she's old enough. I'm afraid one of these times they won't be so lucky.....

Her mom told me she wasn't going to make buyers sign a spay/neuter contract because she thought it was stupid. She thinks it's only a way for breeders to eliminate their competition and make sure no one breeds the same dogs as them. No, it's because serious breeders care about their dog and do not want the dog world to be over populated.

My friend also said she hates mutts. I was bold enought to tell her that she breeds mutts. She doesn't think goldendoodles are mutts. That really annoyed me.

I will not tell my friend all this of course. I love her and I would not want to offend her. We have never gotten in a fight or any drama in all the 8 years we've know each other and I would like to keep it that way. I just wish she would see that breeding is wrong.
