That is what this feral kitten looked like.

Evenmore so, the one next to the black cat looks like her, too. Only with short hair.
<img src="http://www.kittensforsaleonline.com/kittens.jpg"; alt="http://www.kittensforsaleonline.com/kittens.jpg"; class="bb-image" />

Anyhow.
I was walking with my little brother up a road that is approximately three miles long. It's extremely busy, and I see this kitten run across the road and narrowly avoid getting hit. Further up the road, there is another kitten that was old enough to leave it's mother, and looked exactly like the one in the picture. It was rolling around in the sunshine on the curb. I think, 'oh God this cat is gonna end up getting hit!' so I run across the street with my brother and check this cat out. She looks at me with those big gorgeous brown eyes, and I know I am going to bring this cat home. I am a sucker for cats. I love them more than dogs, honestly.
I pick her up, and she stops panting [sign of shock, right?], and cuddles up to me. I pet her, and she closes her eyes. I feel her over, and she doesn't feel like her legs are broken or anything. Oh good. This cat is okay, just dehydrated, I'll take her home and get her some water.
Well, as I study her, she appears to have blood dripping from her mouth. A sign that something is punctured. I almost started crying. This cat was beautiful. I was in love with this cat. She can't die! Well, she struggles to get down, and bites me as I'm setting her down in the grass. She punctures my palm right below my left index finger. Oh, wonderful. I just got bit by a feral cat, and I know she was feral because I saw the rest of the litter in a sewer.
I hope I don't get rabies.
She starts giving these raspy gasps. :/ I remember those from when Rocky was put to sleep. Brian starts crying, so I can't cry or else it's gonna be a great mess. Death is a part of every day life, right? :/ So I hold her until she dies, petting her.
My brother is scarred, and I washed out my hand so now it just stings. I'm glad Tetanus shots cover cat bites. She wasn't showing any signs of rabies.

:/ I love cats.

My dad, and I quote, says "Well, you're definitely not a thinker." No, I just ran across the street to rescue a cat that I was gonna bring home because I love cats and they're amazing. </3 I've got blood [she was drooling blood] all over me, so I'm gonna probably go wash this off :/
</3 I love cats. It is sad. Very sad. But you know, I've seen people go out of their way to hit a cat.

  • I'm sorry you had to experience it, and it's always extremely sad when such a small, cute, young animal dies. However, being the voice of reason, you really ought to go to the doctor's for a rabies vaccine anyway. It sometimes takes weeks for symptoms to show, and just because you didn't notice any symptoms doesn't mean the cat wasn't infected. It's much better to be safe than sorry.
I agree. I told that to mom, but she said that she's sure I'm fine. And, honestly, it's not the first time I've been bit by an animal. If it had been a raccoon or a possum, I'd be more concerned, though I'm pretty nervous right now. I'll probably have her take me sometime this week... Thursday or something, because she works Sun-Wed. Besides, aren't rabies vaccines a series?

  • Honestly, I'd probably agree with your dad. I've dealt with so many feral cats and kittens that I couldn't count them, and I've learned that it's never a good idea to pick up a feral/unknown/stray animal, especially if it's injured, because an injured animal is more likely to be scared, and thus more likely to bite. Cat bites can be especially bad, and are typically more likely to get infected than dog bites. It is, however, a very kind gesture to call your local animal control or ASPCA, and keep an eye on the animal until they arrive. There's no changing the past, but I would recommend being more cautious in the future.

As already mentioned, you should probably get the bite looked at, though I'd recommend calling to doctor to ask if they think you need to go in first. A lot of the time they won't be too concerned about it, but will tell you to watch for signs of infection over the next few days. However, If rabies is prevalent in your area, I'd recommend going to a doctor as soon as possible so that the body of the kitten can be taken and tested immediately.
    I'm done with VP. I'll just be around until I get all my dogs and lines placed in good hands. If you want to contact me, please do so through deviantART.
Construction workers were on the road that I found her on today, and they were putting down that pine needle stuff that they're obsessive over here. So her body was probably moved. My mother, being in the medical field, looked at it and said that currently the only thing I need to worry about is cat scratch fever. Rabies websites, and my mom, said that the chances of me getting rabies is pretty low, under 15%.

However, I am really glad I got that tetanus shot, because today in horticulture I nicked myself with a pair of rusty clippers. x.x I'm not having the best of luck today. My sore throat I've had for a week or two suddenly got worse, and I have a splitting migraine.
