Okay, so I have never EVER had a problem at our local off leash dog park until Saturday.

So Clover has a bunch of friends that she plays with at the pit (We all call it the pit). Granted they all play rough, but we know that they are playing and not being aggressive. Well Clover is now having fun trying to dominate other dogs, but that's just the age she is at.

I was walking one of the trails when we came up on this older guy (I would say mid thirties) walking his 3 1/2 month chow puppy. It was his first dog ever and his first time at an off leash dog park, but what he did after was unacceptable. So Clover ran up to the puppy, said hello and the guy pushed her away with his hand. Fine she came back to me and was running along beside me. Then she goes back and decides she wants to wants to show this new puppy that she's the alpha. All she did was push the dog down with her paw and try to make him submit. Neither dog made a sound, but the guy just yells at Clover. She immediately backed off and was terrified of the guy, complete with ears pinned back and tail between the legs when all of a sudden he kicks her. Oh boy, was I ever furious. I gave him my piece of mind and of course he complains about how his dog is all full of snot and that my wild and vicious dog should be wearing a muzzle or he'll make sure that she is put down. What is the matter with this guy? Then an old lady comes by and says that I should put my aggressive dog on leash.

First: Clover is not vicious/wild/aggressive.
Second: Kicking is not the answer. He could have seriously injured Clover (Thank God she wasn't!) and I would have made sure that HE got the vet bill.
Third: It is none of the lady's business. So we had a heated argument, but did she see him kick my dog? No. All she heard was that my dog was wild and aggressive.

So we finished our walk and I was talking with a bunch of people who I see there on a regular basis. There was probably 20+ dogs in the meeting area and 30+ people. I didn't see Clover go over to the puppy again, but I did hear a bunch of people just yell: "Why did you kick that dog?" He kicked her twice! TWICE! I finally had to ask the guy, "How would you feel if I kicked your dog?" His reply, "I would probably kick you right back." Nice, very nice. I then managed to point out the maturity level of myself to him considering I kept myself from doing the same.

Anyway, someone had followed him to his car and managed to get the licence plate and phoned by-law. He is now no longer welcome at the Pit and actually got his dog taken away and he now no longer able to own any pet for 9 months. After that he may own one, but it must be checked on a monthly basis by a vet and he will have visits from animal control. Ah... Sweet justice. Anyone who would kick another persons dog does not deserve to have any pet. This puppy is now being fostered with one of the regulars and is now one of Clover's best friends. Clover is actually protective of him and will growl and show teeth if another dog gets too rough. We found out that the chow (who remains unnamed to this point) was underfed and sleeping in a kennel full of its own filth. He is now slowly gaining weight and is a smart cookie too!
