How hard is it?

edited January 2011 in Vent
Seriously, how hard is it to put your dog on a leash, or clean up after it?! It's the law! I've noticed there are a LOT of people in my housing tract that either let their dogs just sit in the yard without a leash, or walk their dogs around the neighborhood without a leash. Just yesterday this guy was walking 2 large dogs, one was possibly a black chow or shepherd mix, and the other looked like a boxer, or maybe an american bulldog. The bulldog/boxer was on a leash, but the black dog was going back and forth across the street pooping in people's yards! The guy didn't even care that his dog was darting back and forth across the street, which could have ended badly if a car passed by quickly, and he didn't stop to clean up the poo his dog left. I've also had 2 very scary situations happen, where my dogs, or myself could have been injured, because someone just let their dog sit in the yard without thinking about what would happen if another dog came along.

I'm about ready to call animal control, especially for the dogs that just roam around. It's not safe for anyone.
I'm done with VP. I'll just be around until I get all my dogs and lines placed in good hands. If you want to contact me, please do so through deviantART.

 • I wouldn't hesitate to call. Someone should be enforcing the leash laws. We have the same problems at our apartment. No one picks up after their dog or they let the dogs run up and down the hallways to get exercise. On several occasions I have been bombarded coming out of the elevator. I don't even like taking Clover out into the back to go to the bathroom because there is poo everywhere! On the rare occasions yes we have forgotten bags, but we have always gone back the next time and picked it up. Not once have we left a surprise for somebody. We have asked the company if it was possible to have it picked up even though it was the responsibility of the owners. Their response was to put a notice, this tiny piece of paper by the elevator door. Needless to say, it has not solved the issue.

I have seen many people in the city walking their dogs off leash. We have laws here as well that state that your dog must be on leash at all times unless in a designated off leash area. The worst case I saw was during rush hour. I was stopped waiting at a red light when this man was walking his two aussies. One was older and was off leash, fine the dog stayed beside him at all times. The other was obviously still a puppy and all of a sudden he unclipped the leash. Well natural instinct took over and he tried herding the cars. He ended up getting clipped, not seriously hurt, but of course I had to pull over and give him my piece of mind. It was so irresponsible and the only response he could give me was that if the older one could do it then the puppy would learn the same way.

I am so glad that our local off leash dog park consists of responsible dog owners. They keep their dogs under control, we have had a few confrontations, but nothing serious and for the most part people pick up after their pets. There are the rare few that leave stuff behind, but other than that we are quite lucky to have this place in our community!
