How embarssing... *UPDATE with picture*

So I walk my 2 boy poms everyday around noon, but today did not go well. I got my shoes on, put potty bags in my sweater, leashed the dogs, and got out the door, but when we got to the end of the driveway the leash on Prince broke! It was one of those clip on kinds with a swivel, and the clip separated from the swivel. Normally this wouldn't have been too problematic. I would have told him to sit until I picked him up, BUT today the neighbor's kids were on scooters in the cul-de-sac AND they were calling my dog, because I think they thought it looked like their dog(they own a cream sable girl pomeranian). I panicked, because I thought Prince would get scared of the scooters and run, or go to them, because they were calling to him. So, being stupid I went to grab Prince quickly, instead of telling him to sit, but that caught him off guard(he was going down the sidewalk oblivious to the fact he was off leash), so he turned around to look at me, which made me loose my balance, and fall right in front of everyone. I broke 3 of my nails, one so short it bled, and bruised up my knees. I took my dogs back inside to find a new leash, and almost didn't want to go back out, because I was so embarrassed, but I sucked it up, and went back out.

Anyone else have embarrassing stories about walking your dog(s)?

*Update*
Here is the knee that bruised the most. It hurts. I play games while sitting on the floor, and every time I go to get up I forget my knee is bruised, so I put pressure on it, and get a painful reminder. Ignore that I'm in pajamas. lol.
<img src="http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r26/PrinceSushi/Bruise-005.png"; alt="http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r26/PrinceSushi/Bruise-005.png"; class="bb-image" />

  • Sorry that happened. I have a story. I was just walking my dog one day and across the steet was my brother's friend wallking his dog. Well, my dog loves my brother's friend. My dog ran over to him and jumped up on him. His dog started barking, and then my dog bit his dog. She's always been pretty agressive, but has never bitten. It was embrassing, especially since my dog is titled "agressive".
  • lmao, aw! I hope your nails and knees heal quickly!

Every once-in-a-while I bring my dog, Tink, with me to the Humane Society in the mornings before we open while I clean and whatnot.
She is a shepherd mix and is a decent sized dog. She needed to go out so I took her out front and was just walking around waiting for her to do her business.
Then this lady pulls up in the parking lot. As I went to approach her car to let her know we weren't open yet, Tink got excited, pranced up to her, dragging me with her.
The lady didn't see me, opened her door and smacked me in the head with her door! I fell down holding my head while she just looked at me like "Oh...hi?"
Hahaha Tink didn't understand what had happened.
My head was bruised for 2 weeks >.<
Dog bites are always embarrassing. When I had a different pom, we took her to a charity walk, but kept her in a dog purse. Well, she was strapped into the purse for her safety until the walk began, but the granddaughter of one of my mother's coworkers didn't know that, and tried to pull her out. It scared my dog(probably hurt her too), and so she bit the little girl. There were probably 100 people that saw it happen, and they avoided us the whole time, because of it.

That sounds so painful! Way more painful than my knees. I'm glad it was just a bruise, and it healed up though.

  • aw xD

when I was pretty young, my friend and I were walking Shelby and Tiffany around the neighborhood. Someone's dog was running loose, and Shelby pulled right out of my hands. I started crying so hard I couldn't move so my friend had to chase her all over the place. I was afraid Shelby was gonna get hit by a car. Some other girl in the neighborhood happened to be riding by on her bike, so she held Tiffany since I could hardly even hold onto the rope xD

Iunno why I was so upset. I mean, its a neighborhood, not that many cars. I guess I was afraid the two dogs would get in a fight or something. Plus Shelby was my life then, it was just a natural reaction I suppose. Such a horrid moment I remember it very clearly >.> xD
All good things must come to an end. All endings will begin new good things.

Aww! I'm sure you felt embarrassed, but in a way it's really cute that you feel so strongly for your dogs.

  • When I was little I used to think that I could walk my dog Cheyenne. Cheyenne was a German Shepherd/Wolf Mix and when she saw this small animal in our yard she took off running. From the way my mo, described it my legs went flying up in the air as she took off and dragged me around the yard. I can't remember if I was hurt or not, but I laugh now and make it one of my happy memories about her.

Now with Clover, at 8 months thinks she can jump up on people. It makes it so hard to walk her because every person we see she has to stick her nose in them to smell and then jump up on them. She's used to this because that's how my brother treats her, by inviting her to jump up on his chest. Well, now she thinks she can do it to everybody. She knocked over one of my fiancées sisters when she walked in the door. She's been getting better, but it's still embarrassing especially when we are known as the ones with the aggressive dog. Clover is not aggressive and wouldn't even try to bite someone, she's just very... Jumpy.

Ah, my cousin had a dog like that. He looked like a pit bull/mastiff mix, so you can imagine how massive he was. She thought it was so funny to teach him to "hug." Like you've found out, they don't learn who or when to hug, they just learn the "trick," so he was hugging everyone. He nearly knocked my grandmother down, so I used to have to enter the yard first to get him to jump on me, while she walked past.

  • Ouch, I don't blame you for not really wanting to go back out. :)

I was picking out my Christmas tree with my family and the people who own the farm have a dog that they let wander the field of trees without a leash. This isn't a problem, the dog is well-behaved and doesn't seem to go into the street. My dog is a Shih-Tzu and like most small dogs, she thinks she's tough. She's normally ok with other dogs, she won't play with them but she won't attack them. I figured it would be fine for her to go say hi to their dog.. I was wrong. She growled at the dog the lunged at his neck. My mom yelled at me, the dog's owners seemed appalled, and it was just so embarrassing. Everybody at the tree farm was staring at me.

I don't trust unknown dogs for that reason. You could have the sweetest dog, but if the other dog is sending off bad messages, or your dog is having a bad day, then you never know what will happen.

  • Had an embarrassing moment at the dog park the other day. Clover is normally a well behaved dog. She was playing fine with the other dogs, but all of a sudden this little teacup yorkie went up to her and started barking, it sounded like a squeaky toy and those are Clover's favorite. She picked up the dog and started walking around with it.

A lot of people found it hilarious. The owner thought Clover was attacking her dog. The yorkie was not hurt at all and wasn't even trying to escape.

It was just embarrassing being yelled at by this owner who was only making the situation worse.
As someone who owns small dogs, I don't blame the owner for being upset, even if the dog wasn't hurt. With no disrespect to yourself, I'd probably yell too. I feel most small dog owners are extra sensitive to what happens to their dogs, because small dogs are a lot easier to injure. It honestly only takes a small drop with some dogs to cause a lot of damage. My last pomeranian must have only fallen from 12 inches or less, but the angle was just right to cause her to dislocate her hip, and unfortunately after trying to fix it, the only option was to euthanize her. Yorkies are smaller than poms, so I imagine they are even more prone to injury.
