Gah. We've been working on it since sophomore year. Two 10 page papers, over 100 notecards, 25 source cards, a 3D model and a 7 minute speech later, it's over. It's a straight shot to graduation. :)

I may have a party, fael. But I'll probably just go to the beach with friends, cause Myrtle has a grad week and everyone's going. ;)

 • HAHAHAHAHA!
I don't think we need to do a senior exit. xD Not my grade and rising freshmen, anyways. :P That's what I heard from my English I teacher last year, though.
I'm almost positive our county will never do away with it, but I honestly could not care less now, because I am DONE with that wretched thing. 5 months till graduation, then am off to ASU. <3

 • We had to do something like that. Only we had less than a school year to finish it. It was three large essays (at a minimum), a presentation, and a product (a video, model, etc) and then a 30-45minute speech/presentation before a panel of five judges. And that was to even get a CHANCE to pass the school year. If you didn't do that, you didn't graduate, even if you scored 100% on your finals. Since it was the first year my school had done this, no one had ANY idea what they were doing. The teachers didn't know, the principal didn't know. It was pretty awful. Half the teachers thought it was a ridiculous waste of time.

It went 'so well' that now EVERY grade has to do one in order to pass onto the next year. >_> From Freshman to Seniors.
It's a good way to weed out the idiots. :D

Sea Oats:
Honestly, I'm glad I don't have to do that [I think]. English is such a boring subject. The only good thing about it is the literature. And the analyzing of said literature. I like that too. ;P

 • Eh, it wasn't too awful. I didn't mind writing the papers, because as time consuming as the notecards were, if you do them right the paper practically writes itself. I got very high A's on both of my papers. The biggest thing for me was the product, because it had to be a minimum of 15 hours of work with time logs. It's extremely hard to spend 15 hours on something when you know you -have- to, and time is all you're worried about.

Then our english teacher throws us all up in front of my english class to present our speeches just like we would to the judges and timed us. I was completely dreading it because I didn't have a problem getting up in front of three strangers, but I do have a problem speaking in front of 43 of my peers. Now I thank her for it because it helped tremendously with time and what to add and take out of my speech. Then it turned out I only had 2 judges. ;p

 • I'm not sure public education should be intended to "weed out the idiots." Especially if it's not standardized.

 • Great job Sea Oats! My school doesn't have anything quite like that, but our English teacher does make us do a nice long English paper for his class. Granted, I took AP Comp, so I had a lot of writing for him. xD

I almost wish my school would institute something like this to ensure that students work hard to graduate, but I don't feel they will xP
As hard as we do work to get this all done, the judges are usually volunteer parents. Parents don't want their kids failing, therefore they're not going to fail other kids. So pretty much everyone that has some kind of paper and speech and something to show for it, will pass. I've only ever heard of one person failing it, and it was because they didn't even write a paper.
