Our World With Guns...

I think that we should be made to everyone have a gun in their house...there is a place in Georgia I was told about that they have to have guns and they rarely have killings there cause everyone has guns..Just wanted to say this cause there have been ALOT of killings on the news channels and I think this would be a good way to stop alot of it.

Well, there is some truth to the saying "Guns don't kill people, people do." However, I don't think anyone should ever be forced to have a dangerous weapon in their home if they don't want to. It's not legal to do that(assuming you're in the US). Plenty of people still do stupid things around guns, and plenty of very sad accidents happen every year due to guns. Many people also aren't comfortable around guns, especially if they have children. In the end, if you don't need it, then there is no reason to have it. My mother is already planning on donating her magnum when law enforcement decides to do the gun drives in our area, or near by, because there is no reason for us to have it.

yes but it has been proven if atleast MOST people have guns no one will barely try to break in or kill anyone cause they dont know half the time who has or does not have a gun.

  • Think about other countries where people don't have guns, and how low their crime rate is.
I'm all about people's right to bear arms, but I think the requirements should be more strict then they are now. Even though you're supposed to have a license to carry, anyone can go to a gun show and buy anything.
I live in GA, and in my area yeah there's probably an average of 4 guns in every household. We hunt :P . Our crime rate is pretty much non-existent, but it's not b/c everyone is scared of everyone else's gun lol.
It's just life. You'll get over it.
  • Japan has one of the lowest crime rates because civilians are not allowed to own/carry guns.

Really, the right to bear arms has been taken way out of context. It wasn't originally 'Hey, everyone can have guns just because.' it was so they could protect themselves from an overpowering government, if need be. Butmeh.

I don't like guns, but think of it this other way:
If guns were illegal, then only criminals would own them.
That's a scary thought.
And forcing guns on people is the same as completely making them illegal. The government shouldn't be able to control everyone like that. I think things are alright how they are right now.
I wouldn't say that's universally true at all, and thus not a good reason on why people should be forced to own guns. I've taken law enforcement courses(I might become a game warden), and guns honestly are not that much involved in lowering or raising crime rate. If you take them all away, crime will still happen. If you give them to everyone, crime will still happen. Better elements of controling the crime rate is community, economy, law enforcement effectiveness, size of the city, etc. That is why I said "if you don't need it, then there is no reason to have it." The money spent on forcing everyone to have a gun, would be much better spent on educating people on how to treat each other, or on community education for preventing crime, or on improving law enforcement.

As Kaz brought up, take a good look at Japan, where they have historically prevented people from owning dangerous weapons. They do allow people to own guns for sporting, but it's not easy to get one of those licenses. However, guns are not the reason why much of Japan is considered one of the top safest places one Earth; it's due to their culture, which is rich with morals and ethics on treating people, which is also why Japan is considered one of the most hospitable places on Earth too.

Guns should be regulated, not banned, nor forced.

  • Here you can only have guns with a licence although I know a lot of people have them without licences generally criminals and generally only hunters have them. I don't think everyone should be made to have a gun accidents happen even with the smartest people who care about safety I can't imagine some of the people I know with guns . I think they should only be sold with strict control measures. Yes it's not going to stop criminals owning them if someone wants a gun they're always going to be able to get them but we have more of a problem with knife crime here than guns
  • cause knives are easier to hide...I know someone who should ALWAYS have a gun with him because he has a gang wanting to kill him for some reason and he doesnt know why...he can find out but he wont right now...He can barely go out of his house except to like work and church cause they will kill him.

  • Having a gun will only make him more of a target.
Assuming he hasn't done something criminal to have a gang after him, I'd advise you to tell him to go under police protection.
Ditto on everything Maxxy said.
Maybe they are just terrorizing him, but what do you think they would do if they saw him with a gun? They'd most likely take it a lot further, because now they feel threatened. Criminals need to be dealt with through law enforcement, not by citizens who lack the appropriate training and knowledge of the law. Your friend is clearly paranoid due to his situation, which makes him a lot more likely to make mistakes, which is exactly why he should not be allowed to carry a gun. Police go through intensive training for years in order to be prepared to own and use deadly weapons on another human. A normal person, like your friend, does not have that specialized training and experience. What if your friend got caught off guard, and pulled out the gun on an innocent person? That's assault with a deadly weapon. What if out of fear he shot and killed an unarmed gang member, or an innocent person? He could potentially face murder charges, especially if it's off his property. How is he going to react if someone goes after him with a gun? If he shoots it off wildly, he puts others at danger, which could also get him in trouble, especially if a stray bullet hits someone. Police are trained, and have to think about all of that, and more. Your friend won't be prepared without going through P.O.S.T. and getting years of experience under an experienced officer. Hunting and gun experience =/= to shooting another human.

Your friend needs to go to the police, and he needs to keep going back until they listen. Sometimes they just can't do anything on one or a few reports, but if it constantly happens they will listen up, especially if he feels his life is at danger.
Well the whole "gang" is armed I guess my brother said. (he worked with my brother) he used to deal drugs then he got his life turned around after I believe he went to jail. They want money he doesnt have nor does he owe them. He is scared to do anything cause he has family he doesnt want them to hurt.

  • Of course the gang is armed. Otherwise it wouldn't be a very good gang, now would it?
But adding on to what PrinceSushi said, even if he got a gun, it wouldn't even make an effective weapon. Police have to go through years and years of training, and even then, I heard that if their target is over three feet away, they only have a 30% hit rate or something like that.

So, yes, in order to keep him and his family/friends safe, the police should be contacted.

30% at 3 feet sounds a little low, but it might be correct for shootouts. Regardless, I still agree with the point you are making. Police know how to react in volatile situations, and they still have difficulty. A normal person without all those years of training , and who is afraid that they might be injured or die is going to have a considerable amount of difficulty getting the weapon out and ready, let alone aiming and preparing for a shot all in the time before they get attacked. You'd be better off running, which is typically recommended for such situations.

Your friend should definitely go to the police as fast as he can, so he can get some protection for himself and his family.
