Fell off my horse this afternoon at Vampy's house. I'm on her computer at the moment actually. Jasper pulled the reigns from my hands at a lope and when he tried to stop i lost my balance and slid over his shoulder. landed on my hip/back. Hips gonna be bruised and my arm slammed into the saddle horn so that's gonna bruise as well. Haha I knew exactly when i was about to fall though xD

The things that went through my head (in order):

1. Oh crap!
*falls*
2. Ground!
*lands*
3. Your okay! get up!
*stands up*
4. Find Jasper!
*grabs his reigns and checks him out*

  • Ow, sorry about that. I've never actually fallen off, I guess I haven't been riding long enough. I did come close once though. I was on this horse I didn't really want to be on. She's lazy and hard to get going. I was trying to get her to canter when suddenly a little girl ran past outside the ring. Apparently that spooked her. She suddenly spun around fast and I began sliding. I ride (rode) english so there wan't much to grab onto. Thankfully I managed to stay on and calm her down. The funny thing is earlier a gate fell down, loud noice, horses neighing, people running and all she did was perk up her ears. Then someone running past is enough to spook her.

PS How is Jasper doing? Last time I asked you you hadn't ridden him yet.

Haha if you were nervous about being on her she may have picked up on it and it made her skittish. Horses can sense your emotions and usually it affects their mood/emotions to fit yours. Like if your nervous, the horse feels it and gets anxious. If you are scared, the horse will try to see how far he/she can push you.if your excited, the horse will get excited and have lots of energy (at least all the ones I've ever known are that way) Yea English saddles have very little to catch yourself on. Western saddles (I ride western) have the saddle horn. Which Vampy and i have deemed the most dangerous part of the saddle. Its bruised up her leg before and has now left a huge bruise on my arm. To me, my saddle horn is more dangerous than my horse..

He's good! He listens to me really well. At least when hes at a walk or in an arena. I can trot him perfectly fine in an arena and he doesn't act up. I used him for horsemanship last Sunday and he did perfectly fine. I rode him over to Vampy's last week and put him in the round pen over there. Being away from grass, he started losing all his weight again and his bones started to show again. Vampy and I talked and then we let him lose into the main pasture with her two horses and pony. They pushed him around a while to establish herd rank then left him alone. He has started to fill back out and is looking lots better =)
  • I hated falling off of horses. It hurts :/ Especially if you're all of 5'0 at the time, and the horse you're riding is 17.5hh xD That...hurt...

So did getting smacked in the nose with a softball. THAT hurt too. xD

  • Ooh, that sucks. :/

I've only really had one fall. The others I kind of bailed off the horse before I actually fell.
But this was when I was about a year into riding, I was on this lesson horse, Roannie, and he spooked at a cat that jumped onto a pole on the edge of the arena from the bleachers. And we were just standing, watching my instructor demonstrate something, so I was totally caught off guard, and broke/chipped/cracked (something like that.) my tailbone. Omg. Talk about pain. At least I was still fine to ride, but sitting in school or in the car or anything of the like was absolutely excruciating when I had to get up. So that was a bummer. lmao But in my 3 years, that's only time. Another time was when I was first learning to lope Megan bareback, and I just kind of dismounted while we went around a corner, I wasn't balanced, which meant she was unbalanced, so she leaned in and I just kind of slid off and landed on my feet. lmao

Hope you're ok though!

Thanks for the lovely banner, Nickel :)
  • I'm fine! =D Just bruised up! The saddle horn left a good little red mark/bruise on my arm. Hurts to even touch it and it's forming a knot. That's the second time I've been thrown. The first time was on my grandfathers cutting horse named Fred. We were riding in a pasture and one of the donkey's that my grandmother has, like kicked at him and he kicked out at the donkey and it threw me over his shoulder. Both times I've been thrown I got right back on. For a matter of fact, I'm going to Vampy's tomorrow to ride with her cousin xD
