Bareback Skills :D

Well, I feel accomplished. :)
I haven't actually ridden bareback since last winter, so I wasn't really surprised I felt as comfortable as I did yesterday.
After Drew and I cleaned his barn, the top barn and fed the middle barn, we brought Toby up to mess around with him bareback.
I walked him around while Drew hosed down the arena and set up the jump.
Drew warmed him up at about 1.6'. I said that o probably wasn't goin to actually jump, wife last time didn't end too well (lmao, I fell on my ass xD ) Then I brought the jump up to about 2.8'-3' and he ended up knocking it the first time, jumped it from the opposite side, and denied it twice from the way he first knocked it. He knocked it a few times, but he got some nice jumps over it too.
Then I hopped on and he had me take him over about 4", lol. He trotted over it twice, and then he started actually jumping it. We ended up moving it back up to about 1.6'-2' and jumped him over that.
I didn't even almost come off :D I was so excited. xD
We did get pictures, even if some of them are blurry coz my camera kept focusing onthe dust instead of us, lol. Hopefully I can get some of me and Drew up soon, but not at the moment since I'm on my touch pod, haha.

-edit-
Got pics uploaded and all. :D

<img src="http://i56.tinypic.com/20tgj60.jpg"; alt="http://i56.tinypic.com/20tgj60.jpg"; class="bb-image" />
<a href="http://i56.tinypic.com/20tgj60.jpg"; target="_blank" class="bb-url">http://i56.tinypic.com/20tgj60.jpg
Me on Toby..Neither of us thought that he'd actually jump it..
I mean, it's barely higher than a trot pole. We were trying to show him that he didn't have to try and run to make it over. He never really got it.

<img src="http://i54.tinypic.com/281dir9.jpg"; alt="http://i54.tinypic.com/281dir9.jpg"; class="bb-image" />
<a href="http://i54.tinypic.com/281dir9.jpg"; target="_blank" class="bb-url">http://i54.tinypic.com/281dir9.jpg
Moved it up, still me on Toby. I think this was the first actual jump I did..I was still nervous because of the previous time we jumped bareback, but ehh. I didn't fall or almost fall, so it's all good. :p

<img src="http://i51.tinypic.com/2ps4s5d.jpg"; alt="http://i51.tinypic.com/2ps4s5d.jpg"; class="bb-image" />
<a href="http://i51.tinypic.com/2ps4s5d.jpg"; target="_blank" class="bb-url">http://i51.tinypic.com/2ps4s5d.jpg
Me on Toby, doesn't he look so adorable? <3
I wasn't really ready for the pic..but he looked too good to pass it up.

<img src="http://i51.tinypic.com/9hhmcm.jpg"; alt="http://i51.tinypic.com/9hhmcm.jpg"; class="bb-image" />
<a href="http://i51.tinypic.com/9hhmcm.jpg"; target="_blank" class="bb-url">http://i51.tinypic.com/9hhmcm.jpg
Me trotting Toby around, I had to get use to bareback again, lol. Drew set the "jump" up for me after this.

<img src="http://i52.tinypic.com/2cqbpxz.jpg"; alt="http://i52.tinypic.com/2cqbpxz.jpg"; class="bb-image" />
<a href="http://i52.tinypic.com/2cqbpxz.jpg"; target="_blank" class="bb-url">http://i52.tinypic.com/2cqbpxz.jpg
Drew jumping..kinda obvious. :3

<img src="http://i54.tinypic.com/20r1ms5.jpg"; alt="http://i54.tinypic.com/20r1ms5.jpg"; class="bb-image" />
<a href="http://i54.tinypic.com/20r1ms5.jpg"; target="_blank" class="bb-url">http://i54.tinypic.com/20r1ms5.jpg
Ghosties. • I wish i could ride bareback. I CAN ride Blaze bareback but i dont trust him
in only a halter and barrel reins and tawny cant trot without me falling
off of her because she has all muscle and no fat to hang on too xD
 •
Lmao. We normally ride Toby in his curb with those reins, but we were just messing around in the arena, so the halter worked. :3
It's hard for me to stay on Toby while he trots xD Toby's the same way, he's pretty much all muscle, so we just end up yanking on his poor mane, rofl.

 • Ooh, nicely done. x3 My biggest accomplishment bareback is only loping. lmao
Toby is so adorable! He has the cutest face.

With Megan (the 5 year old quarter horse mare I had worked with for a 1 1/4 years) I had gone bareback so many times with her I could sit her jog in my sleep, and she was so responsive bareback, when I asked her to halt from the lope, she would plant her haunches so hard. lmao Totally caught me off-guard the first time.

And now that she's gone, Loretta let me take Quest (one of her lesson horses) on a trailride about a week ago, it was soo different sitting on him. He's so fat, and Megan was so lean. I thought it would be impossible to fall off of him.

Do you do Western or English mostly? I'm going to try and improve my English over the Winter. x3

 • Thats cool.
I only ride western, lol.
I've never even touched an English saddle, haha.
I'd like to do endurance and cross country, so I'll eventually have to learn English..
The seats and positions are just so different though, I don't know if I could do both correctly, haha.
And I love his face too! :D I'm glad I get the chance to ride him, he's helped me out soo much. <3
I doubt I'd ever be where I am in my riding now if I wouldn't have ridden him.
It really upsets me that my BO has constantly been trying to shove my confidence down and make me look like I can't ride at all, but when I think about it..Screw her, coz it's all making me an even better rider, and she doesn't have a clue about it. ;D Lmao

 • Yeah, it's only her loss really.
I have the opposite situation.. my barn owner is waaay more confident in me than I am. lmao

Because Megan's gone, she's given me two project horses for 4h.
Wildfire, who is not yet saddle broke, however is already halter broke.. but her ground manners and training were very minimal. She's so smart though.. she's learning soo quickly!
And Jamileh, who is saddle broke, yet the foundation in her training is very weak, so she has numerous problems. So I'm almost starting her from scratch.

That's impressive though! Haven't touched an English saddle yet already jumping bareback. x3
And I know what you're saying. I am having a super hard time adjusting to an English saddle after being Western for 3 years. Especially holding 2-point at first. Oh goodness.

 •
Drew has more confidence in me than I do, which is the only reason I've jumped bareback so far. xD
If he wasn't at the barn, I'd never go up there. Ever. He completely understands where I'm coming from when I rant to him about how icky my BO is.
If I had the money, I'd probably have two project horses. xD
I'm in the process of trying to be able to get a job and work up so I can split board and the actual cost of a horse with Drew and we can train it, then split the money we get from selling it.
Because right now, I'm more so trying to get my name attached to horses so that while I'm getting better, I can learn different horses, which will make me even better and figure out different ways to do the same thing.

But I just find it so offensive that my BO can talk behind my back to her family and the other riders there and she either wants me to know, or she's too stupid to realize that they're going to tell me. *rolls eyes*
There was a show three weekends ago I think, and I had mentioned how I wanted to try Tunie out. She told me Mel wasn't going so I could use Tunie. Okay, that's all good. She gives me a wonderbit to use on her. :| She always uses a curb, because she completely blows through any jointed/equal pressure bit. Mel would have had no problem letting me use her bridle, she even told me I could. BO said she didn't want to use Mel's stuff when she wasn't there. Bull. She didn't tell me that you have to stop Tunie before the keyhole or thread the needle. Guess what happened to me? I almost took a damn flying lesson of a 17 hand horse. When you have an OTTB running full out, and then go to a complete stop, it's not very easy to stay on, I don't care if your feet are so far forward they're at her head. :| Then she tried to tell me I almost flew off because my feet weren't forward. Forget you, my feet were forward and my heels were down. I ended up scratching barrels and wasting $6 because I knew I couldn't control her in that bit. :| BO had the nerve to tell me that she knew I couldn't handle her yet, but she let me anyways because I wanted to try her. That's ridiculous. She knew I couldn't control her in the bit, because she grabs it when you try to stop her. *sigh*
But anyway..that was wayy off topic. xD

And yeah, I'm surprised I haven't came off more than just the one time jumping bareback. I did great for the whole hour we were jumping, my last jump I flew off because I leaned up when I was off balance. *facepalm* Totally my fault, and Toby still tried to stop before the jump but he was too close and ended up jumping it. I stayed on until his feet hit the other side of the jump, lol.
