Prompts prompts prompts...Oh how I hate prompts...

Who else here hates prompts? As in writing prompts. What's the weirdest one you've had so far? I got one in 6th grade on bus safety and how we should obey the rules... o_O

This time, its responsibility and what it means, and I've really got a migraine from just trying to type it all and have it decent so I can get a decent grade. Thing is, it's a hard thing to plan. I'm not exactly responsible, I'll admit to that. But, hell, I can't even organize a paper! I just dump whatever happens to be on my mind onto my paper. Sigh.

Anyhow. Does anyone else hate prompts? I sure do.

  • I'm an English major... so no, I don't hate prompts ;P Prompts are nice. They give you an idea and you work off it. I don't see how that's so bad xD They're especially useful for writers when they have writer's block.

Even the ACT/SAT writing prompts for the writing portions of them... I always score very high on them, so, they don't bother me xD

  • I love prompts. x3
First, they give me something to work with. If someone just says 'write a story.' I will kill myself over picking a topic.
A prompt narrows the possibilities down, but still gives you a great amount of freedom to really make the piece your own and different from the others your teacher will also be grading.
I don't see anything wrong with them, although they can get quite lame, but it's still possible to get a great piece of writing out of it!

Thanks for the lovely banner, Nickel :)
  • I prefer prompts to just making it up personally. I think it's easier to write once you have an idea of what you have to write about then just making it up from nothing
  • Without prompts how would you know what to write for courses? Is it prompts you dislike, or writing? I both like and dislike prompts. Depends on what they want me to write about. Though I apparently have very creative imagination, I HATE writing stories. I LOVE writing reports and essays. You could give me the option to write a report on something extremely complex and hard to study or to make up a story, and I would pick the former.
