Tooth...

I have good hygeine, let's just get this straight from the start xD I brush my teeth twice a day, yadayada.. but I do eat/drink lots of sugary things and I think that's what has caused this issue... my dentist (when I went two years ago... told me to stop drinking pop, but I didnt listen)

Anyway! I've had a hole in my tooth for a while... it doesn't hurt or anything, so I forget about it a lot. But now I've noticed a crack on the side of my tooth... and I swear the hole has gotten bigger. Still doesn't hurt though.

When I go to the dentist, are they probably just going to fill it in? I don't want my tooth removed or something D: And I really don't see the point since it doesn't hurt at all. We moved here two years ago, so I have never been to a dentist here yet... and I hate the dentist, really. I've had fillings done before for small cavities...but this one is obviously much bigger. I just don't want to have some surgery done or something =/

 • I had the same problem a few years back, except after my tooth cracked, half the tooth came off. Even then it didn't really hurt, except the edge of the tooth rubbed my tongue incredibly badly and made it sensitive. Dentist made a cap to go over the remained of the tooth and cover the nerve.

 • mk, thanks :D Good to hear it from someone who's had the same problem. I was so scared. I think it only has to be taken out when infection occurs or something... but I'm not a dentist, or anything close to it. Hopefully I can get to a dentist and get it filled or something... not sure what they will do about the crack. I'm not even sure how the crack happened since I don't remember it being there yesterday o.o

 • I have a big crack in one of my molars, and have for years now. My dentist keepa an eye on it, but he says its not a big deal as long as I clean around it well. As for the hole, they'll probably either fill it in or put a cap on it, like Bama said. No big deal. :]

 • It actually just broke the night I made this post...while I was brushing my teeth >.< So, hopefully all I need is a filling. Caps/crowns are super expensive, so my mom won't be too thrilled if that's the case.

Still doesn't hurt, and I'm trying to get an appointment for next week, but I've been so afraid to eat I haven't been eating much the past couple days and I'm super exhausted D: stupid teeth. It really makes no sense why that one tooth got a cavity... all of my teeth are pretty white o.o It's not like i haven't taken care of them.

Do you think it's ok to brush it still? Ive been very very lightly brushing it, since I want to make sure it stays clean so I dont get an infection or anything...but I'm afraid I might also wear the inside of the tooth down and hit a nerve or something. Rawr. This is such a nerve wracking thing D:

 • If you can't afford to have work done, then they can always remove the tooth, assuming it doesn't affect your smile.
As for brushing, you should definitely be keeping it clean. Just be gentle, and use mouth wash.

I also wanted to say that having white teeth does not mean your teeth are healthy, or that you're taking care of them. You should work on improving your diet(avoid sugary or acidic drinks and foods), pick up some products that strengthen enamel, replace your tooth brush every 3 months, and make sure you floss if you don't already do that. If you are doing everything you can to avoid cavities, but still getting them, then the enamel on your teeth is most likely very weak or worn down, which will need to be treated by your dentist.
