Survey For All You Artists ;D

edited September 2010 in Artist Alley
Hello ;D Anyone who is willing, could you please answer the following questions? I am doing a report on how the internet has changed art. I will use some of your answers for examples, and will credit you with your screen name if I use your answer. (if you'd prefer me to use a certain name, please be sure to indicate that) For VP purposes, please do not give me your real name ;P

You may answer some, or all of these. The more people I get answering, the easier it will be for me to write my report properly. I thank anyone who participates :D You may respond here, or you may note me if you don't want to post this for everyone to see. However, please remember, anything you post I may use in my report, so please don't mention anything you don't want me to mention.

Name(will be used for citation): Kyo

How long have you been posting art online? 4 years?

Why do you post art online? So I can keep track of it and more easily show it off.

What type of art do you usually post? Digital art, usually animated related

Which of your art gets the most response (faves, comments)? The ones I shove in my friend's faces. I don't get much recognition unless I basically ask for it...

As you get more watchers, do you tend to post more art? Nope. I don't have that many watchers anyway, but I still only post art when I feel like it.

As you get more faves on an artwork, do you tend to post more of that type of art? See above, replace 'watchers' with 'faves' and change the ending to 'I only do certain art styles when I feel like it.'

As you get more feedback, does this tend to push you to do more art? Do you think you would have stopped doing art had you not gotten adequate feedback? When I get -constructive- feedback, yeah I do more art. I don't mean 'That sucks' and 'Omg that's so pretty!' That really doesn't make me want to do art more or less- those just seem like filler comments to me, kinda like "Yeah, I saw it." I don't think I would've stopped drawing altogether without feedback, but getting it has definitely made me more confident in my abilities.

How often do you use tutorials? Have they helped you? (you may give examples) I don't use tutorials, because they've never helped me.

How many tutorials have you created? What for? None.

Have you felt like you've gotten better at art based on comments? Nope. A lot of people have this bad habit of saying someone's art is good, when they don't really think it is.

Do you enjoy critique? Why or why not? I do, when it's constructive. It helps me pinpoint what I'm doing wrong, and find ways to fix it.

Have you ever dealt with trolls? (explain if yes) Nope. I'm not popular enough for that.

What is your definition of a troll? Troll is not strictly an art-based term. It's not even strictly an internet-based term. A troll is anyone who does and says things to get a rise out of someone else.

Have you ever dealt with art theft? I have no.

If so, how did you deal with it? What was the process like?

Whether you have dealt with it, has the issue of art theft kept you from posting some artworks? Nope. As said before, I'm not popular enough to deal with stuff like this. xD

What are your other concerns with posting art online? I don't really have concerns with posting art online.

Do you think the internet is beneficial for artists? Why or why not? Yes, and no. The internet seems to either make or break artists. Either it gives an artist a huge ego, a certain feeling of superiority, or it crushes any of their hopes and dreams.

Girl always trying to mess with me. just to annoy me

What is your definition of a troll? someone that tries to make you mad just for fun

Have you ever dealt with art theft? Yea.. I drew a heart, inside a heart, with wings and posted it to DA and about a month later i found it all over a graphics website and you could see where they smudged my signature from the picture..

If so, how did you deal with it? What was the process like? i messaged the person and asked them where they had gotten the image they used and they replied with some very immature and vulgar language. I then reported them to the sites admins and they took it from there.

Whether you have dealt with it, has the issue of art theft kept you from posting some artworks? No. I just changed the way i put my siggy on my art =) I now put a watermark across the middle of all artwork before posting them online.

What are your other concerns with posting art online? That someone may get offended by something that i draw. like my recently drawn cross.. If someone has different concept of a cross, i would hate to offend that person by posting hat picture.

Do you think the internet is beneficial for artists? Why or why not? I do, it gets our art to more people and we receive faster feedback =)
