Okay, so at school today, my fiancé's little brother -we will call him Dusty- was joking around with this other guy on the bus -We will call this other guy Jon-

Well, Dusty was picking at Jon and was like "I'll punch you!" and Jon took him seriously.

Not to offend anyone in any way, but Dusty is mildy slow, he always has been, -I know that doesn't excuse bad behavior- and he doesn't always think about what he's sayin/doing could possibly get him in trouble.

At lunch, I was standing in the lunch line with Jon (He is one of my best friends but i also love Dusty like a little brother) and I was messing with Dusty and poked his side and he laughed and poked me back. We were playing. Jon decided to tell this guy -we will call him Tyler- "That guy said he was going to punch me. He needs to stop talking smack before he gets the poo beat outta him." That made Dusty mad -Dusty takes medication for anger problems- Dusty didn't say anything to Jon till he finished eating lunch. When Dusty walked by Jon's table, he looked over at Jon and Jon looked at him and pointed at him, which to Dusty, seemed like a challenge. Dusty reached across the table and smack Jon across his face -not even tha hard might I add!- and Jon jumped up and punched him and they fought. Dusty got a busted lip and I didn't see what happened to Jon. Our principle pulled them both from the cafeteria and took them to he office.. Dusty got three days ISS and Jon got ONE MEASLY POP!

In my sixth period class, this guy -we will call him Michael- decides to tell the class about it.. This is his version and I;m no trying to offend anyone <3

"The retard smacked the tall guy and the tall guy beat the poo out of the retard. It was hilarious! I'm glad someone finally beat the poo outta him!" I was SO mad at the way he called Dusty a "Retard". I got VERY defensive and told Michael "Why dont you sit down and keep your mouth shut before i beat the poo outta you? I've been dying to for the passed two years and im sure everyone in here would be HAPPY to see me do it!" So.. I may have gotten wrote up by my teacher. I won't know till tomorrow.. Do you guys think I did right by taking up for Dusty..?

 • Maybe you shouldnt have threatened to beat the poo out of that guy, but standing up for Dusty seemed fine to me in this case.

Yea... I shouldn't have threatened him, I know that was wrong.. I was just SO tired of hearing people call him names.. "Michael" is a total jerk to EVERYONE and thinks he is king of the school or something.. He annoys a lot of people, but he thinks that everyone loves him and that he is "Bad" because he crashed his dirt bike on the highway going like 60 TWICE in ONE night and was scrapped up and limping and had bandages all over him yet still came to school.. In my opinion.. He should have been at home resting.. Better yet, he shouldn't have been dumb enough to ride his dirt bike in his current state of mind..
 • Standing up for someone is fine, and was very kind of you, but you shouldn't threaten others.
If I was in that situation I would have told Michael that "retard" is considered and offensive term, and if he didn't want to stop, then I'd inform an adult, and let them take care of it. Nowadays, calling a person with a mental disability "retard" is just as bad as calling someone by a racial slur, which is absolutely not acceptable at school. I've seen kids get suspensions for saying things like that to other kids.

Yea, you're right, I shouldn't have threatened him, but many people have told him before to be quiet and it just kinda popped outta my mouth before i realized i had done it.. i was frustrated and already mad at my brother yesterday and Michael just made it worse =/ ill prolly apologize to him today.

I don't know if it'll mean anything to you, but I find it very mature of you to realize that threatening wasn't the best solution, and that you are even considering apologizing. Bravo(not sarcasm)! If you are going to apologize, make sure he knows what you are apologizing for(just the threatening), and your stance on what happened. Something along the lines of "I'm sorry I threatened to hurt you, but I am still not okay with what you said." Also, if he's likely to take the apology as nothing, and mock you for it(which might just aggravate you to lash out again), then maybe you should avoid it. Apologizing to someone who doesn't recognize the value of an apology is like apologizing to a tree. I don't know the guy, and thus can't speculate on how he'll react, so it's up to you to determine if it's worth it, or if you should just move on. Good luck though.

 • Interesting, very interesting! Things like that are always happening to my brother,he's a trouble maker.
 • @Sushi: Yea.. I'm in the class with him right now.. I did apologize and he just kinda blew it off and said "Yea, whatever." and turned back to his computer to search Gothic Unicorns >.> Wierd search.. I know.. We are in Digital Media.. *Sigh* Maybe I should have just left it alone. I didn't get wrote up either.. My teacher talked to me and told me that he had it coming for a while but not to make an outburst like that in class again.

@Allie: Yea, my brothers were both trouble makers as well!!
