Graphic Makers Slacking

edited September 2010 in Vent
Im a very very very easy going person for the most part. I made a deal with someone, 5 unmade ports for 5 skill/stat maxes, and I didnt even finishin sending all the dogs out of lazyness and pretty much willingly let her have 5 free ports just out pure lazyness lol. Well in the last couple weeks ive order 6 banners. SIX! Every-single-player did not msg me back. They just.... forgot and I mean im talking some people waited a week or two, and frankly its kind of rude.... I mean its been so long I dont even remember there player names!
Im just glad I didnt pay

  • You sound very hypocritical in this post. I dont know if you're aware of that or not. First off you say that you're lazy but then you accuse the graphic makers being lazy? Did they ever even message you back to confirm your order? People aren't obligated to make you anything if you just sent in a form. If you had already paid, then I see a problem but you said so yourself that you hadn't. I know some people don't even reply if you message asking for a service that they clearly list as being closed. School is also starting and people may be swamped with homework. Did you ever think to give people the benefit of a doubt? As well as people not being obligated to make you anything if you hadn't paid, they also aren't obligated to message you back. To point one last thing out, as you said, they may have just simply forgot. People usually don't forget things intentionally so I dont know how you can find that 'rude'.

Just give people a break once in awhile.

Not directly pointed to anyone, but...

Half of the people who make graphics on this game deserve to be paid real cash, because they are taking time out of their life to make something for you, and they don't even know you. Since real cash exchanges are not allowed, you are only paying them virtual money which has absolutely no value for something that has a lot of value. Don't complain about how long it is going to take, or when they are going to be done. They don't owe a thing to you. They are offering their services and retain the right to take them back whenever they want.
• People could be busy.. I make images and things and sometimes my life takes over. It happens to everyone.

    Back in action?
  • As an artist, I read your post and cringed, winced, and then immediately got angry.

We have lives.
We do not owe you anything, unless you have paid first. • I agree with Kaz.. I've been working on the SAME art project in my art class at school, for at least a week. Artists have busy lives. We can't drop everything we do to make one person happy. I had stopped selling art for a while because of school work. Im about to open my thread back up though. I know its frustrting to wait but we do the best we can =) we get lots of orders and cant do them all in just a few hours. some projects take up to a few days to complete depending on the difficulty of the order =)

Lol love your burger kind comment (l : Like I said I understand, the only thing that made me upset is the few of the people whp said "itd be done that day" and its been two weeks. All of the rest I completley agree with you all. School and family and realy non virtual lifes come first, under all cicrumstances and Im sorry If I mispoke. The only thing that made me upset was that one thing (;
  • maybe they said "it'd be done that day", but something came up. you don't know what's happening in their lives. just cut them some slack. as Kazuko said, artists need inspiration to produce something they're proud of, and that you'll like, too. if you're going to be impatient, try making it yourself.
    bluehh.
  • *Sniff, Im sorry if i offended any people. I wish I chould make them myselfs, I have low talent. lIke reina said, some of these people deserve real money. Pleas understand that sometimes people get frustrated for stupid stuff, like really stupid stuff not relizing how petty they sound, and thats my case, I mean it happend ALOT in a two week span, not just once or twice THATS why im frustrated.
  • I know you're frustrated, and that's perfectly alright. I get frustrated when -I- can't make art fast enough. I don't -like- taking weeks to finish images, because it's a constant weight on my mind, but I also don't want it to end up like crap. xD We still love you, no worries there, just think of things from the artist's point of view. ^^

  • ahhh you derserve some huggles *_* :P
  • I guess I'm going to be one of the only(maybe the only?) artists to step in here and completely agrees with your frustration. My opinion is that the second you take on a commission art becomes a business, and without good customer support your business will fail. Accepting an order and telling someone it will be done in a day, but never responding/contacting them for a few weeks is just plain unacceptable in my book, unless an unforeseen problem occurred that kept them from at least sending an informative message to the customer(illness, lack of internet, etc.). I personally will not take orders when I know I am busy or lack motivation, I always try to meet a 1 week maximum work time goal per piece(I send a message if I foresee going over that estimate), inform my customers of the progress of their order multiple times(if it's not something I'll finish right away), and encourage them to send messages if they have any concerns(including why I might be taking a long time).

Artists tend to get stuck on the mentality that they are the only ones that feel stress during a commission, and that they don't owe anyone anything but that's not true at all. When an artist accepts a commission they are taking up the time of the customer, and they are holding onto the customer's form of payment(even if it never goes into their possession, they are still preventing it from being used by promising goods). It's very stressful to be a customer that has set aside a large amount of "money" to pay an artist, wait weeks without information, and have to go through to decision of whether or not you should just give up on the order. Giving up when the artist started, but took too long to finish will tick the artist off, which is a mess to deal with, but on the other hand leaving your "money" out of reach for weeks on a deal that seems dead, means that other opportunities to use that money will pass by. I've had to make such decisions multiple times, on various sites, and it's not easy. All in all, what I'm saying is that both parties have responsibilities that they need to meet, and that neither side's time is that much more important than the other side's time.

The above might be a bit jumbled, or confusing. I'm so tired at the moment that I'm getting a little vertigo, but I can't sleep. Sorry. I also wanted to say that you don't have to agree or disagree with my opinion. Everyone has different opinions of what should be expected of artists, which just makes everything even more confusing and frustrating.
I'm done with VP. I'll just be around until I get all my dogs and lines placed in good hands. If you want to contact me, please do so through deviantART.
  • Thanks Im glad someone agrees. I undertsand peopl eare busy im willing to wait a LONG time for a graphic, but if you message me saying it will be done THAT day, I want I done THAT day or mabey in a couple days, not a week after
