• I get nervous when driving as well. I hate driving and have others drive me if possible. I've had my license for almost 2yrs and I still can't help but feel nervous. I guess you need to take a deep breath and just try and relax. Maybe try to drive when theres no traffic.

 • You're not the only one afraid of driving. XD I've had my permit for 3 years and I am way too nervous to get my licenses because I was traumatized the first time I started driving, I almost got hit by a pizza truck so I swerved and hit a mailbox then got yelled at by my dad. Joy. -_- And I was doing REALLY good until that dang pizza truck came by. So, don't let anything make you nervous or you'll turn out like me at 18 and you don't want that. XD But, I plan on getting my licenses once my parents bring my car up here, other than that my boyfriend drives me everywhere and everything is in walking distance where I am about to move to. The only thing about me driving is I get panicky when another car is close and I tend to put my feet on the dash board, subconsciously trying to stop it? xD And I don't want to do that when I am actually driving.
 • I've been driving since I was 12 (not always legal of course) but I mean, thats 6 years of driving experience. Just start off in a small place with only a little bit of traffic and pay attention to everyone/everything around you. It will get easier. I was driving and got in a wreck just two months ago. It took me about three weeks before I would drive again. I still get nervous, but i just turn on music and think about other things while I'm driving. not enough to distract me from the road, but enough to ease my mind =)
 • 1. Practice slowly, but regularly. It's bad to wait weeks in between practice sessions, even if the last session was a little scary or overwhelming. Try to practice at least 3 times a week, even if it's just for 10 minutes each time. The more you do it, the faster you'll get used to it.

2. Get rid of distractions; turn your cell phone completely off, turn the radio/music off or way down, make sure your hair is out of your face, wear comfortable shoes, etc. As you learn it's best to do away with these things, and then bring them back when you are more comfortable. Also, don't worry about the instructor unless he/she is telling your something. I know it's like having someone standing directly over you while taking a test, but you have to learn to not focus on them, and what they are doing, or you're going to start freaking out and getting distracted.

3. Find empty parking lots. I think the empty parking lots are the only place I can drive without my mom having a heart attack in the passenger seat. You can practice driving, using the tools in your car(mirrors, signals, etc.), and/or parking in a parking place.

4. Since you're going to be in an unfamiliar car, make sure you check and adjust everything to your liking. Your instructors will be looking to make sure you are. Start with the adjusting the seat as needed, then the mirrors, check over your shoulder, put your seat belt on, and then check that the instructors seat belt is on. It's completely stressful to start driving, and then realize that the mirror isn't in a good position for your height, or that the seat is to low/high.
