Last Night: I made the choice to sell my Quarter Horse, Dixie. Most all of you guys know about her and have heard me talk about her. I'm going to be selling her for $600 ASAP. I haven't seen her in three months, and won't get to see her again before she is sold. I cried my eyes out last night for a good two hours. She was my very first horse and to me, selling her was letting go of everything I worked for and watching my dreams fade.. The worst thing, that not many will understand, is that the last time I saw her, I hugged her and I promised her that I would bring her home soon and I would see her again. Now I have to break that promise by selling her. It broke my heart..

Today: My dad called a woman nearby and took me to her house this afternoon. She has a 4 year old Quarter Horse, named Luna, for sale. Only $1,100. She doesn't spook easily and can be ridden on a ten mile trail ride without even breathing hard in the 100 degree weather we are having. The owner got on her and showed me how well Luna handles. Luna gave NO trouble and did everything the woman asked of her. The owner asked what she would be used for and I told her that she would be used in Drill team and possibly parades this year. The owner showed me that Luna can Sidepass. Which is going to be needed in the drill formation. Luna loads easy and is easily brought in from pasture. She will stand COMPLETELY still when you climb onto her and you can mess with her legs without her even flinching. Luna's owner tugged gently on her halter and asked her to go with her and Luna followed her without her even holding onto her. Luna is neck reigned, leg reigned, and body reigned. She wont bolt when spooked, all she does is snort till she feels safe again and will continue to walk at the same pace the entire time. Yes i said she doesn't spook easily at the top of this paragraph, but the owner DID say she was scared of drainage ditches and yellow poles/signs.They have taken her around barrels before and have also worked with her on poles. Which are the other two things I plan on using her for. She has a smooth gait and changes leads easily. Shes fast even at a trot.

Guess it's true. Thing's get worse before they get better. Luna will be a much better horse than Dixie would have ever been, but it still breaks my heart to know that I had to break a promise to Dixie. She will always be my first hose <3

 • Aw, I'm sorry. I'm sure you love Dixie and would never sell her if you didn't think it was best. You obviously need a horse that can suit your needs better and Luna sounds wonderful . I understand what you're going through however. Recently I made the desicion to take a break from riding. It was very hard and I cried, but I was just confused on whether I should continue or not. It just wasn't working out well for me. It was espessially hard because our friend has been paying for my lessons and I don't know if I will get that oppurtunity again. Still, I'm glad I did it. I'm sure you'll be glad now that you have Luna. Dixie will always remain in your heart and you'll always remember her, but you'll also be able to work with Luna, and it sounds like at the time she's better for what you're doing. I hope you feel better soon.
