Hand/Wrist pain..

Anyone else have it? I'm about 100% sure I got it from training dogs on VP... thats when the pain started was while I was training dogs. Now it never goes away =/

I've cut down my time on the computer a -lot-

I do what's necessary, and I sit on chat. that's it. I dont train dogs anymore, I dont play games, I dont write.

It hurts like hell, and I have no idea why =/ Im thinking of trying a brace, but I dont know what else I can do before resorting to the doctor.

I suppose my next best shot is taking a week off the computer and seeing if that does -anything- for me. Absolutely no computer for a week. If it still hurts when I get on a week later, then it clearly isn't just a temporary thing.

Anyway, if anyone else has dealt with this sort of thing and has any advice, I'd like to hear it ^^

  • I don't get pain specifically from training. I do have arthritis in my wrists/hands so I'm familiar with the pain. If it's really bad I have used just a small brace before, it helps some by giving the wrist some support. But since there is generally always some level of pain I've just gotten to the point where I just try to ignore it and take some Tylenol if it gets too bad :P

Im not sure what it was? Its like a a long thing I put my thumb in one hole, and the rest of my fingers went out the end. It was velcroed all over my wrist, and had plastic in it to keep my wrist from moving back and forth. It kind of was like a hand guard that you wear when you roller blade. I believe I got mine at londondrugs or shoppers drugmart.
  • I get a lot of joint/tendon pain, always have, but I can live with it most of the time.
However, I occasionally use a brace for support, particularly while I'm taking notes in school or drawing.
I bought my wrist support(and an elbow support) from Walgreens with advice from my mom(a nurse). Both are mostly neoprene, and give support without taking away a lot of mobility. This is the wrist support: <a href="http://www.walgreens.com/store/catalog/Braces-and-Supports/Ace-Wrist-Support/ID=prod6007530-product"; target="_blank" class="bb-url">click.
If it's really bothering you, then you may have injured it, which might require a splint. I'd talk to your doctor about it. Unless it turns out to be serious, your doctor could probably examine you, do x-rays(if needed), and send you home with a brace(or recommendation) in 30 minutes.
    I'm done with VP. I'll just be around until I get all my dogs and lines placed in good hands. If you want to contact me, please do so through deviantART.
  • I use the mouse with my left hand and when I train a lot my wrist starts to hurt as well.. It did like yours and used to go away, now it's a constant thing.. I switched to using my right hand for the mouse and I'm currently wearing a brace. I took a pic to show you the one I use.

<img src="http://i26.tinypic.com/23t1r82.jpg"; alt="http://i26.tinypic.com/23t1r82.jpg"; class="bb-image" />
<img src="http://i29.tinypic.com/501505.jpg"; alt="http://i29.tinypic.com/501505.jpg"; class="bb-image" />

It can be worn on either hand so its good for future use as well.

Its got a piece of metal in the bottom of it that keeps my wrist from bending much so that it doesn't get worse.
  • I type for a living and most if not all people of my occupation acquire hand or wrist pain, sometimes known as carpal tunnel syndrome. My mother is a massage therapist so I can tell you this: Getting a brace doesn't solve the problem, it only "covers" the problem. Physiotherapy and massage therapy gets deep into the tendons and muscles and actually does solve the problem. You could massage yourself, or ask someone close to you to give you hand, wrist, and forearm massages. They help loosen muscles and tendons.

My 2cents.

  • Carpal-Tunnel?

Well.. the bones in your wrist are called your carpals, and there's a band that goes across your wrist and causes a lot of pain when it becomes tight. A lot of typers get it if they don't type properly.. or if they just type for a long time. Lots of people get carpal tunnel surgery by snipping the band but then they can barely use their hand anymore.. when they could have just gotten massage to loosen it.

  • That's what you call a true and hardcore VPian, one who needs to wear a hand brace because they train too much.
