Suggestion for studs

edited July 2010 in Game Suggestions
To prevent overbreeding of mutts and badly statted dogs there should be options when you put a dog up for stud, like only being able to use the stud on the same breed of dog, and an option that lets a person see what females want to breed with their male, then approve the breeding. What does everyone think?

 • I disagree.
It seems like it just adds more unneeded features.
If you want to approve the female first, just put a note on your dog, for the person to message you.
Then you can make an arrangement to breed the dog's together.

So I just don't think it's needed.

 • I think this would be nice, but it's not nessacary. No matter what people do, there will always be mutts and overbreeding on VP, but it's just a game. If you don't want people breeding mutts with your stud, make it a private stud.

 • I don't have any dogs up for stud, never really do, and nobody has ever bred a mutt with one of my dogs... I just see a lot of people talking about how they don't like it when people bred mutts or badly statted dogs with their dogs.

 • Hmm.. within game play, who decides what overbreeding is? For some it may be more than one litter per dog, for others (especially when it comes to goodie dyes) it may be having more than a single dog in the game. From a game standpoint, there is no such thing as overbreeding or badly statted dogs.

Every player has to start somewhere and most start not understanding what stats are or how to read them, let alone how to improve them. At first glance, it would seem the way to make money on the game would be to breed and sell dogs, so implementing something like this most likely wouldn't solve anything. People would still breed indiscriminately and produce low statted animals and they would still breed mutts not understanding. Or it would have a worse affect and turn people off from the game if they couldn't find any dogs to breed to that they could afford.

The only way to improve these types of issues would be player enlightenment, but even that can't be done if a player doesn't want to learn how to play the game better.

 • I just think maybe we shouldn't be allowed to cross breed unless its a mixed breed recognized by the Designer Breed Registry <a href="http://www.designerbreedregistry.com/"; target="_blank" class="bb-url">http://www.designerbreedregistry.com/;

 • I'm not picking on you, please don't think I am, but when a suggestion is made, it's generally a good idea to explain why and have a valid reason something should be changed.

Why should dogs on the game have to come from any registration? It's a game, meaning it's supposed to be fun. The game may take inspiration from real life, but it's not supposed to be exactly like real life. If it were, 99% of sponsors would be under investigation from a "humane society" within the game for making animals aggressive, for crowding hundreds of animals into one location, etc and so on and so forth

In fact, crossbreeding is somewhat curtailed.. Unless a player breeds within the breed in game, if you attempt to crossbreed, you get... tada... Mutts, which are sterile, unable to breed any further. You can't neuter and release them for money, you rarely can sell them.

So what if someone breeds to your dog and has mutts? Not like it affects your dogs' stats or the stats of any other dog. It's not like people are going to not buy your dogs because they think you are a backyard breeder if someone uses your stud to breed mutts, if they even bother to look at what kind of puppies your dogs have had.

On the plus side, it means any new player can breed to any publicly studded dog, no matter what breed of dog they start with. It means new players have a chance to get their feet wet in the game without having to worry about finding a stud they can actually afford or finding someone to train or trying to figure out how to train for themselves.

 • Would it help if there was some sort of tutorial for new players? To help them find out what the game was about? Maybe they could earn a bit more vpc that way, so they could afford better dogs, and to get them trained?
